Hi, I'm running windows xp home and tried to upgrade to windows xp pro . I booted up from bios cd-rom and installed without partitioning my c drive. I choose c: drive for the new os, and as I found out the installation did not work properly. But when I reboot my comp it is showing 2 operating systems, but the upgrade never completed. If I choose 2 launch windows xp pro it goes 2 a clear blue screen with a large cursor & thats it. how can I remove windows xp pro edition.

Plz can someone advise me on how 2 remove the xp pro showing when I boot up.

How do you mean "Upgrade To"? OEM XP-Pro will not upgrade; must be installed on second partition. Retail/Upgrade will Upgrade.

Noted you used "Boot From CD" (runs WINNT.EXE setup) for Upgrade; dunno if that would have worked (mabe a special option? never tried it before). Usual method is boot in XP Home and AutoPlay (runs WINNT32.EXE setup); I know Advanced Options exist there.

Can you boot into XP Home ok? (may or may not have "hosed" XP Home, but doubt it). If you can and everything "works", you simply have a "failed upgrade" (for whatever reason).

Since you have a double-entry ("two operating systems") it may have attempted to install to a second partition that you don't have available. Boot into XP Home, open BOOT.INI (DO NOT MODIFY YET!) in the Root of the C-drive (a hidden file; in Explorer, "Tools->Folder Options->View"). You will see whether the XP Pro tried to load from a different partition there. Or just post the BOOT.INI contents here if necessary for more assistance (from myself or others well-versed in subject).

Hi submix8c,

I don't have the original xp home cd and the windows up grade I got from rapidshare and created a iso then burnt to cd. I'm not the best with comps, so I'm not to sure where to locate BOOT.INI. I originally tried to install from inside window, SELECTING UPGRADE THEN ENTERED SERIAL KEY. Then as it got to copying installation files an error message popped up sayin failed to copyfile dtscsi.sys.C/ win_nt $ BT/ dtsci.sys so I cancelled and booted from bios cd boot. Iknow I should have created a partition but forgot. :realmad: anyway can you tell me were to go on my comp to look for open BOOT.INI plz Regards Paul

This is the operating system I want to install WinXPro.DarK.Edi.V.3.ReBuild.Jun2007 I know of this to be working as I have asked other who have dloaded and installed.

you can upgrade from xp home to pro, although the oem software might conflict which might in the end result in a clean install. if you are booting from cd you aren't upgrading; you need to run that from within windows. You should go out and buy xp rather than pirating it.
