nuhi
Ok thanks.I can confirm that the .NET x64 hanged while preparing so it's another for the trial and error squad tomorrow.Let me know if you will be hunting it so that we both don't do the same. I presume some of the new components is breaking it and it's simply a dependency.I will fix this IIS thing, it's just a matter of removing some server entries. Legolash2o
UPDATE: Windows installer works when i keep the followingIPSEC Policy AgentNet LogonNetwork DDEConnection Managerif one of them is removed the Windows Installer doesn't workUPDATE2: IPSEC Policy Agent & Connection Manager - Works then these two removed and nothing in the setuperr.log. its either Net Logon or Network DDE which is stopping Windows InstallerUPDATE3:I can comfim that it is either Network DDE or Netlogon, doing further testingfrom research i think the answer is Network DDE,Network DDE is needed for Windows InstallerIsnt network DDE and netlogon used for IIS? might be causing the IIS issue Edited July 15, 2007 by legolash2o
nuhi
Thank you, I will check that now.About IIS, as I said I just removed Accessories and it fails, meaning it's the IIS entries (in the winnt.sif file), not the components.
Legolash2o
When Netlogon is removed, in the setuperr.log there is an entry...Error:Setup had problems registering the following OLE control DLL:C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\msctf.dllContact your system administrator, who may provide assistance in diagnosing this problem.***NOTE: it allows me to do regsvr32 msctf.dll and registered correctlySo its maybe netlogon, cos windows installer doesn't work when its removedUPDATE: it still doesnt work if Network DDE is kept but there is less errors in the setuperr.logbut you certainly have a problem with both "Network DDE" AND "Net Logon"Below is the preset with Network DDE and Netlogon kept (not removed) which worked fine, which is evidence that it is these two components Edited July 15, 2007 by legolash2o
nuhi
I tried it the first time you reported just NetDDE and it didn't help. Then I kept JUST Netlogon and it works. So please try to keep just Netlogon, it is the new component, while NetDDE is the old one and this issue would popup earlier if that was the cause.Maybe you have some installer or an error for me to check uppon for NetDDE, .NET framework 2.0 64bit works without it. Legolash2o
Confirmed it is NetlogonIf netlogon is removed then get one message in the setuperr.logIf netlogon is removed and network DDE is kept then nothing in the logsGreat Team Work! everything sorted, everything works.I recommened to stop people from removing Netlogon by removing it from the list. thx for your help (preset below works! ) Edited July 15, 2007 by legolash2o
nuhi
Yes I know you found the Netlogon issue but you're confusing me again, maybe unintentionally Can you confirm that NetDDE can be removed?
Legolash2o
i kept NETLOGON and removed Network DDE, and nothing was in the setuperr.log and wwindows installer works finei might check event viewer just be sure Edited July 15, 2007 by legolash2o
nuhi
Great. If you reread your previous message you'll see that you said vice-versa.The other day I found that Netlogon breaks Logical Disk Manager, I think this component screamed it's death cry, it will be removed in the next version.Thank you, you saved me hours of testing.
