  1. Is there a list of updates available for this version of IE?
  2. I have ran across this problem so many times in 9x and ME. My advice here works about 95% of the time. Find out what version of IE you are running. Download a full setup for that version or IE 6 sp1. (you may have to burn it to a CD using another computer). Change the system.ini file to shell=progman.exe. Navigate to the IE setup and run. Reboot. Modify system.ini back to shell=explorer.exe, reboot again. When you boot you may be asked to reboot one more time. All is usually fixed. You may need to reinstall updates to whatever version of IE that you chose. NOTE: progman.exe, not program.exe (I have seen too many people get that confused)
  3. You should be able to put this registry change into a .REG file for both cases, and double-click the proper one for which user-agent string you want. I have two reg files one puts the necessary info in and the other just removes it, I haven't used the one to remove, in a long time, because I have found no need to.
  4. IE's user agent strings can be changed in the registry. The information here doesn't give user agent info for IE 7 but points you in the right direction: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/799/ I have used this "trick" in the past for sites that "required" Windows XP. Just a guess but on that page use MSIE 7.0 (instead of MSIE 5.5), and I would use Windows NT 5.1; (R1 1.1) for Platform (instead of Windows NT 5.0) I agree with others, designing sites like this is just stupid. I have left my platform as Windows XP on my 98 partion, the only drawback that I have found is WindowsUpdate site doesn't function properly.
  5. Hey MDGX, I'm sure you remember my advice: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=82947 well it's no longer useful for those sites as you can read at the link above you may wish to remove the link from 98mp10.php. Thanks!
  6. You guys talking about VH1 just need to change your user agent in the browser that your using. see my post: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=82947 Just look at the bit about the user agent (there's a screen capture there too). For Firefox get this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/59/ Under User agent add the following line: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; nl; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051107 Firefox/1.5.0.7 Leave the rest of the lines blank. Remember you can change the Agent for the current session only.
  7. It's not a time-limited trial, trust me, you can get a discount on version 8. "Note, ignore the ‘time limited demo’ reference on this page. You’ll need to get your serial code from www.avanquest.co.uk/vnu/staroffice/register" Note the top of the page it's a "Full commercial download" Worth 60 pounds.
  8. Read the article Philco.
  9. Yes I know that OpenOffice.org is always free. If anyone would like StarOffice 7, and maybe a discount on StarOffice 8: http://www.computeractive.co.uk/vnunet/dow.../sun-staroffice read the article it will tell you how. Enjoy.
  10. IE existed for win95, but it was installed separately, it was not integrated into the OS. IE 4 would allow you to opt-out of the "shell integration". It also wasn't necessary for the 5.x versions of IE.
  11. You guy made me think of a comic strip: http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20061104 Enjoy.
