  2. Hi Ripken204 No games, just video editing and normal applications, IE, word, etc. He wants a card with video input so he can record video to his HD. He hasnt given me a limit yet, but he was considering buying a dell but I told him he could probably build a much better PC for the same price or lower. I would make a guess of less than 800?
  3. Hi Everyone Its been a long while since Ive even looked at hardware so I asking for your suggestions since Im clueless on all the new hardware. Im trying to help a friend build a computer for video recording and editing. Basically he wants to record old video tapes and from DVR to harddrive for editing then burn to DVD. Any suggestions for mobo, chipset, CPU and video card? Like always it would be nice to keep the price reasonable. thanks!
  4. Hey Jeremy Thats exactly what I was doing but for some reason it never saved the setting. Well I got tired of messing with it so I ended up just reinstalling WMP10 and now it works fine. Thanks anyways TWILL
  5. I am having the same problem. But just with windows media player files like wmv. I did check the box too. (always use the selected program to open this kind of file) When I look in the file type tab, windows media player is already associated with this type of file but I still get prompted asking me what I would like to open with.... This is what is in the OPEN command in the advanced section in the file types tab: "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:7 /Open "%L" Is this correct? Anyone now how to fix it? I think it may have been a registry setting. thanks
  6. What will give me the most run time on my laptop battery.... Running a DVD from the DVD drive or ripping the DVD then playing the DVD off of the harddrive? Im not counting the ripping of the DVD to the hard drive as time on the battery. I know I could sit here and run an experiement, but I dont have time and Ill be leaving on a trip soon and Id like to get the most out of my battery. Also just out of curiosity when a DVD movie is played, does the DVD drive output go directly to the video card or does it interact with the harddrive then to the video card? I figure it does some interaction with the HD because I need sw like Power DVD to play the DVD. I did play a DVD that was ripped to the HD once and I noticed the HD seemed to be working during the whole playback but when I use the DVD drive I dont notice the HD working as much. thanks TWILL
  7. you can open a cmd window and type: systeminfo it will give you as it says, your system info, including the hotfixes you have installed.
  8. Partition Magic 8 will not run.
  9. First thing that came to my mind was..... Asta La Vista Baby!!!
  10. Last time I checked with EWB, Multisim does not support unattended installation.
  11. Thanks guys. I picked a Canon LiDE 35 up today pretty cheap, well see how it goes.
  12. Can anyone recommend a best "bang for the buck" scanner? Id dont want to spend a ton of money on it as I am only going to use it to scan documents and the occasional photo or drawing. Thanks TWILL
  13. I want to compare two exe files to find the differences does anyone know of a utility program I can do this with. thanks
  14. Glad you got it going. Its such a relief isnt it? I know it was for me.
  15. Hi James I understand your frustration as Ive been going through the same. I strongly recommend trying this method by raskren: Unattended install, SATA drivers, and NO Floppy , I finally got it to work! Ive tried alll the methods and the one that worked for me was the one above. Dont get me wrong, the other methods are good but for whatever reason they didnt work for me but the one above did. My problem turned out to be in the [sourceDisksFiles] section in my txtsetup.txt. See my other post for more info on this. SI3112 SATA unattended help hopfully this helps. TWILL
  16. Thanks everyone for the replies and tips. I did finally get the unattended setup to start recognizing the SiI 3112 Mass Storage driver for my SATA drives!!! Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance until now to post how I fixed it. If anyone has been waiting patiently to see if I found a solution I apologize for the delay, as I dislike reading posts that aren’t followed up with a solution (if there is one). I tried several times from the beginning hoping I just messed up somewhere along the way. I wasn’t going to let this go so I kept trying. Finally I decided to do a side by side comparison of each method to see if I could find anything that would give me a clue as to what was wrong. One thing I knew was I never saw the drivers go by at the bottom of the setup screen, so I knew windows setup wasn’t finding them. Finally I noticed that there were several variations of the [sourceDiskFiles] sections that are to be added in the txtsetup.sif file. Here are some of the comparisions: Bâshrat the Sneaky/Pyron’s [SourceDisksFiles] si3112.sys = 1,,,,,,4_,4,1,,,1,4 si3112r.sys = 1,,,,,,4_,4,1,,,1,4 GreenMachines: [SourceDisksFiles] si3112.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 Raskren: [SourceDisksFiles] si3112.sys = 100,,,,,,3_,4,1,,,1,4 The info Ive seen on what all the numbers mean is a bit lengthy and confusing so I did some looking around in the txtsetup.sif file and found that Raskren’s was closest to what I had already in the [sourceDiskFiles] section for other drivers. I changed my [sourceDiskFiles] entry to a variation of what Raskren had and it worked!! Im not saying that GreenMachines or Bashrats are wrong, they just didn’t work for my case. Be sure to look at the section [WinntDirectories] then look at some other drivers in the [sourceDisksFiles] sections. Just a note: Once I did get it working, I didnt go back and try Bashrat's method. @hp01jpc and anyone else having trouble getting any methods to work. If you havent already, you may want to try Raskens method here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=13173 with a few minor changes for your own drivers. Let me know how it works out for you. So basically what I am saying is if you don’t see your driver go by during the windows setup check your [sourceDiskFiles] locations and make sure you are pointing to the right place where your driver exists. Goodluck. TWILL thanks for the voting reminder. Im sure will all the tv ads I couldnt forget if I tried!!! I am very thankful I live in a country where I can vote, but I must say I am so sick and tired of the tv and radio smear ads!!!!
  17. I cant...... The file or directory is no where to be found. Since it is during the setup screen must be in a temp drive during setup.
  18. Hey guys,, I tried this method but got the following error FIle txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (18) at line 1747 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisck.c. Press any key to continue. any ideas? please check this post too: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=88&t=29412 thanks TWILL
  19. Its definitely there. I put both the SI3112.sys and the SI3112.sy_ cab to make sure. still no go. I should be able to see "Silicon Image SiI 3x12 SATALink Controller for Windows XP" go by on the bottm of the setup screen right? I never see it. Even when using Bâshrat the Sneaky driver pack I should see a lot of new drivers go by the bottom of the setup screen but I dont.
  20. @Sanjat - thanks for pointing that out. Im not having any luck trying to integrate my Si3112 Sata drivers into an unattended install disk. Just to test the drivers to make sure I had the correct ones I did an attended install with the F6 option. I was able to successfully install XP with the driver disk I have. Can anyone help me figure out how to debug or get the unattended version working? Ive tried the following methods multiple times. 1. Ive tried Greenmachine’s method with no luck: http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/READING/addraid.htm No idea why this didn’t work. I never saw the SI drivers flash by appear on the bottom of the setup screen. Received the hard drive not found screen. 2. Bâshrat the Sneaky/Pyron’s Method no luck: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...161&hl=textmode This one didn’t work either. Just received the hard drive not found screen. 3. And last Ive tried Trainee’s RASOR method: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=30231 I received this error when trying to use this method: FIle txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (18) at line 1747 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisck.c. Press any key to continue. In all methods I never saw any new drivers flash by on the setup screen at the bottom. So I don’t think they are being loaded properly. Here is a list of files I have on the disk (the one I used for a manual install): TxtSetup.oem SIWinAcc.sys SilSupp.cpl SiiSupp.vxd Si3112.sys Si3112.mpd SI3112.INF SetupSil.exe README.TXT KEY.INI INSTALL.EXE HUADRV.DLL brow.exe There was not a si3112.cat file so I added it from a download. Here is the first section of the txtsetup.oem file. I can post the complete if needed. ; This file installs the SiI 3112 non-RAID seial ATA driver as part ; of text mode setup on Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. ; ; Copyright (C) 2002-2003 by Silicon Image, Inc. ; All rights reserved [Disks] disk1 = "Silicon Image SiI 3x12 SATALink Driver Installation Disk",\si3112.sys,\ [Defaults] SCSI = Si3112 [SCSI] ; HwComponent section Si3112_XP = "Silicon Image SiI 3x12 SATALink Controller for Windows XP" Si3112_NT = "Silicon Image SiI 3x12 SATALink Controller for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000" [Files.SCSI.Si3112_XP] driver = disk1,si3112.sys, Si3112 driver = disk1,SiWinAcc.sys, SiFilter inf = disk1,SI3112.inf dll = disk1,SilSupp.cpl ;;catalog = disk1, Si3112.cat [HardwareIds.SCSI.Si3112_XP] id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3112&SUBSYS_31121095", "Si3112" id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3112&SUBSYS_34238086", "Si3112" id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&SUBSYS_35121095", "Si3112" id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&SUBSYS_34238086", "Si3112" I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think the drivers are being copied over. Could the sourcediskfiles be the problem? Ive tried this: [SourceDisksFiles] si3112.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [SourceDisksFiles] si3112.sys = 1,,,,,,4_,4,1,,,1,4 Im really frustrated with this and don’t know what else to try from here. So any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. By the way the Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Suppo...N400%20Pro2.htm If you need any more info let me know. I wasn’t sure what all I needed to post. TWILL
  21. update: I was able to use the 6 floppy disk method along with the F6 method and was able to install XP. Any ideas as to why I get the above error when I do it with a bootable slipstreamed XP CD? TWILL
  22. Help! Still no luck. Im about ready to smash this dang thing. At this point Ive given up on the unattended for now. Ive been trying to use the F6 option to load the SATA drivers. I cant get that to work either. Im even using the floppy disk with the SATA drivers that was provided. Here is what is happeneing. Any ideas on this? Ive tried several floppies and even XP CDs. Where is it looking for the si3112r.sys file? The floppy or XP CD?
  23. @Bâshrat the Sneaky -- Ill give it a try!!! thanks
