Or boot from your xp home/pro cd or unattended dvd or whatever and delete the partition when the drive/partition screen comes up. This is the easier way. There are tons of patches on the net for vista. See if they can help you run blahblahblah on vista.

If you're emulating windows xp pro, the driver intel generic gigabit ethernet is installed. Right click the cd icon in virtual pc, click settings, click networking (or something) and choose shared networking (nat). On vmware, near the bottom, click the icon of a green chip (near the cd icon) and choose shared networking (nat). Don't remove anything to do with networking in the drivers section of component removal (except maybe wlan, unless you use it). And check your hardware support for anything networking and don't remove it. I'm not bothered to read anyone's last session.ini, they're too long.

I find update packs better cos you don't just get hotfixes, but other bugs fixed, flash player etc.

[SOLVED] "unable to find icfg95.dll"
T D replied to nonno fabio's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Oh. That sort of clears it up. -
I had that too. I think it's because of your internet connection, or your isp is throttling your usage. It sounds stupid, but that's the resolution I had, not to use my internet for about 3 weeks.

[SOLVED] "unable to find icfg95.dll"
T D replied to nonno fabio's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It's probably a redundant piece of junk leftover from somewhere. Open txtsetup.sif, dosnet.inf etc, look for all entries of icfg95.dll and del the whole line. -
I get what you mean. But you can't upgrade from windows 95 but if it asks you for a full version windows cd, if you put 95 in it works! But why can't you upgrade from it then?
-
For some reason, you can't upgrade from windows 95, but you can use the win95 cd during setup...

How to disable/remove Outlook Express through scripting/reg

How to disable/remove Outlook Express through scripting/reg
T D replied to preben's topic in Windows XP
You can use nlite or google. Here is a good tutorial. If you remove outlook express after office outlook installation, you can use the office outlook. http://www.activewin.com/tips/tips/microso...dvanced/8.shtml -
If in nlite you selected to use the classic theme on unattended setup, it overrides any custom theme file. Cross this out of your winnt.sif if it's there: [Shell] DefaultThemesOff = "Yes" I know it sound stupid having both options on and not realising it but you never know

[SOLVED] "unable to find icfg95.dll"
T D replied to nonno fabio's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Is this an upgrade installation? Cos there's a icfgnt5.dll in my i386 but not a 95. Did you upgrade from win 95 or something? -
You mean you tried to reinstall nero or windows? If you use the latest nero6 (not sure about 7) then the screenshots will be a bit different.
-
I dunno...
-
I do know the basics (did I say I'm an expert?) but it is still annoying if you use p2p with sfp. That's the point I was trying to make; how did this turn into an argument? I would update to sp2, would you want the early or latest version of windows patches?

Microsoft's new Kernel Patch Protection scheme sucks!
T D replied to AllUltima's topic in Windows XP
There'll be patches soon. (hopefully cos I'm lovin vista beta 2 but it does have quite a few limitations) -
But isn't it better if only one is used rather than 4000? p2p connects (or attempts to anyway with an unpatched tcpip.sys) on average at a beginning of a download about 80 connections. But when I upgraded to sp2 I wondered what had happened to my internet cos I couldn't download a simple pdf file in p2p! Then after googling, I removed it. But that was when I was a novice and didn't know anything. We all were once I know but it still affects a lot of other things. And I know how concurrent connections work. But unfortunatly, p2p doesn't use 3999 ports, it only uses 1 at a time. What can I do about that other than write my own (which I don't know how)?@Sonic That's true but most p2p and IM clients do have bugs and most p2p can limit connection attempts but it's still slow.

Or use an update pack. http://ryanvm.net/msfn http://udp.xable.net http://ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1163

Microsoft's new Kernel Patch Protection scheme sucks!
T D replied to AllUltima's topic in Windows XP
Here comes linux and mac osx86... like undeadsoldier. I'd also take kernel security but still! It should ask "do you want ....... changes to your kernel?" sort of prompts to make it easier. -
Another thing that blows my head off is the tcp/ip concurrent limit.
-
If you use nero to make your disc bootable (I find it better cos you don't have to make an iso) look at this screenshot and see if it corresponds. http://tacktech.com/images/articles/297/create03.png In the latest nero 6.x, there is platform identifier option though.
-
I don't actually use oem folders, there isn't anything for me to put. I integrate anything I need. OEM should work if the source is at the root of the partition.

Or in svcpack.inf, make a batch file that has some if exist commands pointing to a file on a usb mem stick or cdrw. Once the drive is detected, set it to execute a batch on your cd/stick that installs the hotfixes+switches. But this could cause a problem cos svcpack.inf process won't wait for your hotfixes to finish installing. You could execute all the hotfixes from the original batch in svcpack.inf.
