  1. We are running XP pro. No vista. If I convert my understanding is that all users will need to upgrade to 2007?
  2. If I did it was not intentional. I did not specifically convert.
  3. I read the link but I can open the database as long as it resides on the local computer and appears to work fine as long as I have it set for Access 2003 format. The link still doesnt explain why i cant set a trusted location across a network.
  4. I have recently installed MSO 2007 on a new PC and can not open a database file created with 2003 that resides on a remote network across an IPsec VPN. I have tried to change the security setting for trusted locations to include the network location but it keeps telling me I can use that location. 2003 worked fine with out this new "Trusted Location" thing. I could really use some help with getting this figured out. Thanks!
  5. My network is client server running 1 server 2003 for everything including DC and a basic firewall/DSL router as a gateway (no VPN capabilities). The remote network is a small workgroup with the Linksys as the DHCP/Internet gateway/VPN server. There are no configuration settings on the Linksys for PPTP except "Enable" and adding client accounts (username and password) so as far as the remote network setup goes do I need to do some kind of routing on both ends to get the workstations through the VPN servers?
  6. Yes the Linksys does support IPSEC but my local router only supports pass through and setting up IPSEC on 2003 seems insanely difficult (i tried it once with no success). I am not trying to secure goverment secrets so PPTP would be fine for now. PPTP is supposed to be easier to manage and deploy. Besides i would like to know if it will work.
  7. This is my first attempt at setting up PPTP for site to site to third party PPTP server. Here is my network; router/gateway/switch------server 2003 (dns, dhcp, rras for remote pptp access) and a couple of workstations. All works fine for remote pptp access to my server. I am attempting a connection to a remote Linksys RV042 PPTP server using my 2003 as a client (calling router). I have added the Demand dial Interface and i can connect to the Linksys via PPTP and ping the Linksys but not any other devices on the remote network from my server. I can not ping anything on the remote network from any workstations in my network. I have tried to find documentation on how to accomplish this but have been unsuccessful. Can any one help out? Is this even possible? Thanks
  8. I have recently set up a Vista Ultimate machine on my home network and added to the domain (DC = server 2003 enterprise) This is my first expeience with Vista. I can open the Documents folder but when I try to open the folders/files in the Documents folder i get "Access Denied". File Shariing Wizard is off and I am redirecting My Documents to a network share. I have read that Vista has restructured/renamed directories and this causes issues with access to My Documents when using Vista if they are created with XP. I have not been able to find anything that is very clear on the fix (except for manual owner ship changes on each folder that i tried and didnt work). I cant believe that client/server networks that are migrating Vista in are having to correct this on a per folder basis (lots of work!). So my questions are 1. can anyone ponit me in the right direction to fix this? 2. what is the impact on users that logon to both Vista and XP machines? Thanks
  9. I have a Dell inspiron 8600 that I recently had to reinstall XP pro on due to virus's. I ran wipe drive to clean the hard drive then reinstalled the OS and installed the drivers/updates. All works fine except for the wireless. The wireless card does open but doesnt allways detect networks in the area and when I try to connect to a wireless network it does detect it cant get an IP. I tried Assigning static settings and it says its connected but I cant ping anything on the local or public network. I have installed all the current drivers. The wireless card is an Intel WM3A2100. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is?
  10. How can i setup file sharing in a workgroup without having to share with everyone? Can this only be done in a client/server enviroment? If so can any one assist or send some links? The workgroup is a mix of PRO and Home with majority being PRO. Thanks
  11. I am working with a workgroup network. There is a VPN router at the front end that is used for remote access (mainly Remote Desktop). However, when we try to browse the network shares from the remote clients via the VPN we cant see anything as you would in a Client/Server network. The workgroup is setup on simple file sharing. This is probably basic but i cant seem to figure out how to get to the shares. Thanks for the help.
  12. I have it resolved!!! By using the GPMC download from MS i was able to isolate the problem. GPMC policy results were able to give me the specifics of the Folder Redirection failure. In my case it happened to be some files that I had in My ebooks folder that i use to copy CD's into. The error I was getting was that the file(s) were in use by another process and could not be accessed. I don't know what the process was or why they would be used to begin with. They were nothing more than copies of CD's. Any how after removing the folder everything redirected fine. One other note is that folder redirection uses the recyclers also. I discovered this when i deleted the files and GPMC policy results pointed to them also. Hope this helps others in the future.
  13. jpatto, Rename the folder on the workstation? The folder to redirect to is a share on the server. I am not following you on renaming the folder on the workstation side.
  14. No, only one account has a problem on any machine. All others are redirecting the folders just fine. Here is another strange thing, I logged on via remote desktop today to check the target for My Documents and now it is back to the old target location. Yesterday it was the new location when logging in via remote desktop. The account originally tried to redirect because some of the files/folders did transfer to the new location.
  15. I am running 2k3 enterprise at home as a DC, DHCP,DNS VPN server etc and XP pro for work stations. I recently Changed the path for redirecting MY Documents in Group Policy. All user accounts are redirecting fine with the exception of one (my personal one, go figure). When I login at a work station the My Documents target is the old folder. If i login to the server via Remote Desktop or locally the new location is the target for My Documents. Again this is only happening with one account. Also, not all of the contents of My Documents were transfered to the new location and there are several frdxx.tmp files in the new location. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this? Thanks
