  1. I just noticed a problem: when a new user logs in for the first time, all programs are highlighted as new. Also, would it be possible to set the default orb image for all users?
  2. I recently installed some new programs, and I noticed that in All Programs, the highlight is orange, even in High Contrast theme: Can this be fixed? (the highlight colour seems to be fine in the main part of Start Menu)
  3. I have a question about the business edition license - the FAQ states: This seems a bit self-contradictory to me - doesn't providing a paid service to install with your key count as sublicensing?
  4. Is there any chance you could offer 2 business licenses for something like $10?
  5. Raymond Chen recently wrote about these shortcuts: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2012/12/10/10375909.aspx
  6. Shortcuts with Target greyed out are completely normal - that's the standard shortcut type that Windows Installer creates.
  7. Nah, almost all PC keyboards have both Windows keys, though it's true that many laptops only have one.
  8. I noticed a small problem: my taskbar is set to auto-hide. If I view an image full-screen in IrfanView (Enter on keyboard), and press the Windows key, the taskbar doesn't appear, while the Start orb sometimes does (over the image), and sometimes doesn't. Start Menu always opens, but again, sometimes it appears in it's normal place (above where the taskbar should be), and sometimes it appears right at the bottom of the screen. Happens with both 1.2 and 1.3rc0.
  9. What's the status of licensing StartIsBack for use at work?
  10. Which BSOD is it? What does BlueScreenView say about the BSOD?
  11. Great, the text in the main part of Start Menu is now visible for me It'd be nice if something could be done about submenus (Shut down, Control Panel etc.), but at least the text is visible there, even if the selection isn't.
  12. I've got double-click mapped to the Forward button (Back button is for switching between programs - click once and it does Alt+Esc, hold down and scroll with wheel and it does Alt+(Shift+)Tab).
  13. Wheel button opens the Start screen for me.
  14. Sleep: CPU and hard drives stop, but RAM is still powered (PSU doesn't power down). The computer needs a few seconds to wake up and continue working. Hibernate: RAM content is saved to disk, then computer powers down completely. To continue working, you have to turn it on again, go through POST, then the RAM content is loaded from disk.
  15. I'd say this is waaaay out of StartIsBack's context.
  16. Since skins are now supported, is there any chance that the text colour could be fixed when using a high-contrast colour scheme?
  17. Buy a codesigning certificate (you can get it for free for open-source projects from Certum, but otherwise they cost between $50 and $500 for the first year). Check around at different CAs - I bought mine from GlobalSign because I needed a certificate that works for kernel drivers (they need Microsoft's cross-signing certificate, and usually cost more). I think Startcom is the cheapest (but doesn't allow for kernel-mode codesigning), and you also get unlimited number of https certificates.
  18. Task Scheduler is already running on all systems (unless you disabled it manually, but then that's your problem), and it's what eg. Adobe Flash and Chrome use to check for updates. SmartScreen in IE9 and newer will automatically flag unknown programs as dangerous (a program is unknown if it' wasn't downloaded a certain number of times; for programs that aren't digitally signed each unique version needs to get this many downloads before it's not flagged as unsafe anymore, while for digitally signed programs every download signed with the same certificate counts).
  19. Use a scheduled task?
  20. I wonder why didn't they simply rename it to WinRT UI. Oh, and I edited my Start button images a bit:
  21. Does it? I thought they changed that to Windows 8 UI or something like that
  22. Right-click the installer, Properties, Compatibility, Run this program in Compatibility mode for: Windows 7
  23. I made my own Start button image, which IMHO fits better to the Windows 8 flat look: Use as you wish.
  24. Don't believe me - looks like it's gone with 1.1rc1.
  25. Thanks for the offer, but there's a slight problem: if high contrast mode isn't enabled, many programs mix their colours with system colours, which usually results in invisible text (some actually still do that with high contrast enabled, but they're rarer). This is the actual theme I use. NOTE: Link is a direct download to a theme file.
