Have you installed the drivers for your particular sound card? Are there any yellow "question or exclamation" marks in device manager? click START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES - AUDIO (tab at the top) are the default devices greyed out? If your soundcard is 'onboard', check your pc manufacturers site for xp drivers. If you soundcard is 'pci,' then identify the maker of the card, go to their website for xp drivers.

Its possible your mobo/bios doesnt support this.

dorkmaster, did you try my method? Its described in post#54 keplenk, i used nlite to integrate the drives into my XP w/sp2 cd. here's how to integrate SATA drivers with nlite: http://tech.aroundthehat.com/nlite_sata.html

keplenk: the method I described above is how I enabled AHCI before(during) windows install.

oh and one more thing. what made us try using my home-upgrade disk. the place where he bought the camcorder, he took it back there, and they plugged in usb to one of the demo systems and it loaded the drivers right away. and at his moms house too, he plugged it in and it found drivers automatically. both the store and moms systems are xpHOME, so thats why we took my disk to see if it would work. there must be something wrong with his pro disk or maybe pro doesnt have drivers for these kind of things?? *shrug* heh, just thought of something. maybe copy the driver.cab and sp1.cab because they have a newer date?

his disk is pro w/ sp2 my disk is home-upgrade w/ sp1 driver.cab size is the same bytes on each. but the build date is different (pro is 2001 and home is 2003) sp1.cab size is the same bytes on each. build date is different (pro is 2002 and home is 2003) his disk also has sp2.cab, mine does NOT. something else, i dont know if its relevant. when i first put my home-upgrade cd into his computer, i pointed the driver prompt to the "i386" folder but it couldnt find any drivers. it was only when i pointed the driver prompt to the "D:\" (root of the cd) that it found a driver.

My buddy is using xp pro. a while back he bought a digital camcorder, and it will not work with his pc. yesterday i put MY xp-home-upgrade cd into his pc and it loaded the drivers and now his camcorder is working 100%. why would pro not have the same drivers as home-upgrade? Which files/folders would i copy from my home-upgrade disk onto his pro disk? so that he wont need MY disk the next time he reinstalls. thanks.

How to enable AHCI on Intel ICH9 under XP - DURING INSTALL Ok, I gave this a shot, and seems to be working? STEPS: 1. Unpacking the Drivers same as above 1.1 Extracting .IMA file with Magic ISO same as above 2.1 Preparing the drivers Open the IAAHCI.INF with Notepad. Use CRTL-R and you should get a “replace” window. In the first input window you type “2821” and the second “2923”, so you will replace all “2821” text to “2923”, and click “Replace All”. Make the settings: SATA RAID/AHCI Mode [AHCI] SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Enabled] For ASUS P5K motherboards (IF present in BIOS, please report if not present.): SATA Configuration [Enhanced] Configure SATA as [AHCI] Also, dont forget to set BOOT ORDER to CD/DVD first, HDD second. Next, SAVE and EXIT. 5. Installing the drivers in Windows Put your xp installation disk in the drive. If you saved files to floppy, hit F6 at the prompt. 6. Final installation check same as above. 7. Editors thoughts Seems to be working on P5K-VM. Anyone else try this?

I followed your directions exactly on asus p5k-vm + raptor150. Everything is working very nicely! I have a question: is there a way to have the AHCI turned on during xp installation? so we have to press F6, etc. ? thanks.

clicking the 'show desktop icon' is just like doing 'WINDOWS LOGO KEY D' I would like 'show desktop icon' to do 'WINDOWS LOGO KEY M' instead. heres the file Show Desktop.scf. Command=2 IconFile=explorer.exe,3 [Taskbar] Command=ToggleDesktop[Shell] I think I need to change this line, but I dont know the new value. Command=ToggleDesktop

To clarify, i have winxp installed onto c: like normal d: is just an extra partition for files. Administrator and Guest are the only users on the system, with guest by default still OFF. to create the folder named c:\home, as admin i simply rightclick newfolder on c:

I remember when xp first came out, for me anyways 256 megs ram was plenty. ive always since xp, kept my pagefile at static value of 512, even when i upgraded pc and had 512 ram+512 pf. My latest pc has 1024 ram and again its a static 512 pf. A couple weeks ago i got to wondering 256+512=enough, 512+512=enough, so surely 1024+0pf MUST be enough??? recently ive set pf to 0. in systemproperties/startupandrecovery/ changed "write debugging info" to NONE. (that removed the 2mb minimum pf requirement). running afew benchmarks like 3dmard05 and a couple others, yields no difference between 1024,512,0 pf. I also have a regentry to keep os files in ram. Im going to keep running with pf at 0 and see what happens. Now im not suggesting this is better or anything like that, im just testing it out for myself. we ran photoshop with 256 ram and some pf. so like the other guy said, where does it end? 4gb ram + 6gb pf = stupid. -my 2cents

Ive recently reinstalled winxp_sp2 pro. C: contains the usual stuff, and I have another partition D: that i created from within xp. they are both ntfs and im the lone user of this machine. from here: rightclickmycomp/manage/diskmanagement i select d: and "change drive letter and path". then ADD, "mount in the following empty ntfs folder" next i create a new folder called c:\home, and mount it there. the problem im having, is if i browse to c:\home, i cannot delete any folders in there. if i browse instead to d:\ any folder deletes just fine. My next step id like to remove the path to d: How can i configure xp to allow me to delete folders from c:\home ?
