Windows time service not syncing correctly
allen2 replied to mushyuk's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Look in the registry of the 2nd DC: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time\Parameters NTPServer= Type= Those values should be set correctly. Also if both dc should be redundant, you should be set them to both synchronize with the external source so when one is down the second will still be able to provide time to clients. -

Can it be done only for limited user accounts & left as it it for Administrators? Yes, but you'll have to lock proxy settings for all users using gpo. And for the firewall question, it is on a per computer setting so if you set it correctly and an admin connect on a blocked computer then the admin won't be able to connect to internet.

I tried the latest opera last week before reverting to firefox 3.x.xx but it took more memory (with 10 tabs opened) than firefox 3.x.xx. It is a lot better than FF4 on this.

(echo HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix\KB975254,"Installed",0x10001,1)>>entries_KB975254.ini (echo Base.AppDir.Mui.CopyFile= 16422,%%MSIE4%%\%%MuiCultureDirectory%%)>>entries_KB975254.ini This code should work. The usual dos escape character (^) didn't work with the "%" and in these cases, doubling the character works.

You could try with installrite (monitor the vc ++2008 redistributable install on a clean XP). You can also use depency walker to find which dll are needed. As Win 7 include .net, you might also need it to make your app run on other OS (that's why i said monitor the vc++ 2008 redistributable install on a clean XP) and winpe 3 doesn't have native .net support.

FF4 is using with 10 tabs open at least 150MB of memory (under XP). There are tweaks to reduce a little this heavy memory usage but you most likely found the root cause of your problem. I saw this problem was referenced as a bug on the mozilla support page. I reverted to last 3.x.xx as i didn't want to have my browser taking more than 300MB (i usually have more than 25 tabs open).

Feedback for my Web Development Server/Worstation Build

2) Motherboard raid (intel in this case) should not be used for work but if you don't care loosing files and also it puts another load on the cpu and doesn't have a R/W cache and is heavily based on how the driver handle the raid work (distributing datas between the differents drives). 1) Recent ssd use algorithms to avoid failure and have a spare space to replace the faulty clusters like hard drives. The MTBF of both technologies are quite high enough now to ignore those problems. As for the industrial motherboards and mobile cpus: - see there the benchmark comparing both desktop cpu and mobile ones. As you'll see a mobile cpu like an i7 2820QM has almost the i5 2400 performance on most tests for only a TDP 45W and has the hyperthreading functionnality (8 virtual cpus). - see google or you can check there a reseller providing almost all models. -
Domain admin rights not propagating to the user at the workstation lev
allen2 replied to ericargyle's topic in Windows Server
The net user username /domain doesn't do what you think: it retrieve the user's group membership in AD not locally and that what i asked. Try running: net localgroup administrators It should show users/groups belonging to the local administrators group. -

With this kind of setup you aren't going to be very power efficient, you should check for industrial boards for mobile cpu. You might divide by 3 the power consumption of your setup. If you're planning to let your office computer on when air con is off, then the industrial boards are more robust. For storage, you might go with ssd but will be expensive for the same capacity. For raid 5, you'll need at least 3 drives. For raid 1 and raid 5 setup, you should use a dedicated hardware raid controller (Lsi/3ware are the best in my opinion) with read/write cache and battery backup unit. But in my opinion, you should buy a real server (from dell, hp or ibm) as they are made to be servers and come with real support. -
First, you need cluster friendly applications and shared storage at least to be able to use cluster. See there for more informations. Clusters are made to avoid downtime but are a lot more hard to repair when something goes wrong. If you're only looking for a solution to avoid hardware failures, you 'd be safer creating a farm for virtual machines with the physical machines you were planning to use as cluster with something like vsphere (the most reliable in my experience), hyper-v or xen.

Some bios also can power on the computer at preset times but you might have already checked this.

Domain admin rights not propagating to the user at the workstation lev
allen2 replied to ericargyle's topic in Windows Server
What is in the computer's administrators group ? There should be domain admins (by default) and so as long your users belong to domain admins group, they should have admins rights on the computer. How did you found that domains admins don't have admin rights on computers ? -
Vista Black Screen White Mouse Cursor KSOD (blacK Screen Of Death)
allen2 replied to Phylum's topic in Windows Vista
To backup the data, you have two choices: - boot from a CD/usb drive and backup the files to another drive. Depending on what you know, you can try a live linuxCD/usb drive with ntfs support or a winPE based CD/usb drive. That also will help knowing what's wrong. - remove the hard drive from the netbook and connect it in an usb enclosure on another computer. This is the safest way to backup as the first method could not work if there is an hardware problem on the notebook. -
You most likely created the iso the wrong way but to be sure you can try installing with this iso in a Virtual Machine. You also try nlite as it usually works very well and can do what you're trying to do and as you're installing on a small drive, there are also in nlite way to remove unneeded things.
-
Nlite didn't add a reference to it unless your txtsetup.oem or iastor.inf or iaahci.inf contains reference to it. No original XP CD contain a reference to msas2k3.sys; yours is most likely a copy. I wouldn't add the msas2K3.sys as it is a driver for windows 2003 and not for windows XP. See there the drivers package and as you can see there is a specific folder for windows 2K3 and the Vista_W2K8_XP-x86 folder doesn't contain a msas2K3.sys file. You should edit your source CD and remove in txtsetup.sif any reference to msas2k3.sys and its other file as it most likely was added to your source CD.
-
The file msas2K3.sys was most likely incorporated wrongly in your XP source CD as there is not such a file windows XP SP2. You should always start working with a clean source when using nlite.

Seagate error?: folders show as 0bytes or empty
allen2 replied to SpiritGuide's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Your motherboard manual should be there. If this problem affected only the front panel usb, you should first check if the usb cables are well plugged on the motherboard (see page 24/25 or 2-14/2-15). If all usb were affected, it could be a bios setting, so check in the bios the usb settings (see page 33 or 3-5).
