  1. I had run WMM before this, but I'd run WL updates since. It isn't a program I use often, this was probably the 3rd time using (trying to use) it. The install date on WL was 14 May 2011, but WL Sync was 16 March 2010 (the date I received my notebook from Lenovo). I remember installing sync as well as WL, but it is possible it came preloaded. Since I didn't have a copy of Win7 I didn't do a fresh install to get rid of all of the crapware like I normally would.

After uninstalling all components of WL I reinstalled, WMM tries to open as before and then closes. But if I run as admin it will full open now.

    Thanks for the help Tripredacus.

  2. Obviously, it's a bit late now, but I would have suggested looking for the following registry key:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\ NoDrives (DWORD) = 1.

Just logged in as my admin account to check on a driver and my drives are not appearing here now. I looked into the registry entry you mention, There is no explorer entry under Policies. Is this something I can add?

  3. I can not get anything to show up in procmon. I added the exclusion if process name is MovieMaker.exe then include. If process name includes movie then include. Neither of them capture anything. Can I clear out all of the preset excludes or will that mess things up for it?

[edit]I deleted one of the includes and it worked. uploading the zips now (I did all 3 options since you didn't specify which format you wanted[/edit]

  4. Open Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and sort by name. Try to open WMM as Administrator and see if the process shows up for a second or two and then closes.

Then go into Event Viewer, under Application and look for any logs within that time frame relating to the program.

It shows up for about 6 seconds then closes. Nothing shows up in Event Viewer.

I have tried logging in as my admin account and have the same issue as I do when using my standard user account.

  5. My kids have been playing around with my new camcorder and I was trying to do some video editing with them using Windows Movie Maker in Windows 7 Professional x86. The last time I tried to use WMM I had to run it as admin or it never started. Today it won't start as standard user or admin. I don't see anything in the Event viewer. I ran the Windows Live Essentials repair tool but still no luck.

Any ideas on how to get this working again?

  6. If that camera was a Kodak, the software was definitely the problem.

It was, but it wasn't the EzShare. It is ArcSoft, a video editing program that is bundled on the camera.

Since that bit of experience, I've bought several cameras, but I NEVER install their software.

I have Photo management software that I know to be good and that's all I ever use.

Normally I just use ACDSee or Picasa, but since this was video editing I decided to give it a try. Never again.

  7. When I open Windows Explorer in Windows 7 Professional 32bit SP1, Computer doesn't appear on the left any longer and when I enter Computer into the search bar the window is blank. None of my drives; local, removable or network appear.

It was working earlier today, I got a new camera that came bundled with video editing software. I installed it to see what all it had, it was an hour or two later I found this change had happened. I have since uninstalled the software but there was no change.

    Computer:

    win_explorer_1.jpg

After I insert a thumb drive:

    win_explorer_2.jpg

Anyone have an idea on how to restore this? I do have a system restore point to two days ago after a critical update was installed. I have never had any luck with system restores however.

  8. Exactly

I clicked on the open folder icon. I did it the way you asked in your previous post this time and this is what I got:

  9. The dump is 399 megs and I can't get it to upload.

This was in the error report from a WoW crash report.

    ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal Exception

    Program: C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe

    Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 0023:6F2BEF55

The instruction at "0x6F2BEF55" referenced memory at "0x64AC2F3C".

The memory could not be "read".

  10. I got this dump, not sure if it is complete or not, I don't know how to read them, again changing the file type to txt so I can post it on the board.

[edit]It is taking forever to upload, trying to upload it somewhere remotely now, but that too is taking a long time[/edit]

  11. Have you even considered my previous post? A driver issue it may be, but it sounds like kernel memory exhaustion to me (caused by a driver, likely, of course). Get some .dmp files of it crashing so we can see - preferably full dumps.

I have just been setting the crash dumps up on my machine using your post here I was able to get the 3rd item setup (full system crash).

I downloaded and installed the tools you linked, but in the Memory dump from an application/process that is HANGING (not crashing) step 3, I can't find adplus.vbs to run the cscript. The path I installed is c:\program files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\ after that there are a number of other directories, Bin, Include, Lib, License, Redist, Samples and Setup. I did a search for the afore mentioned file, adplus.vbs

Input Error: Can not find script file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v

    7.1\adplus.vbs".

Did I do something wrong in the installation? Or am I just doing this wrong?

  12. But since both of the unknown devices are likely from a sound card/controller, check in your Sound Controller section in device manager. I bet you are going to have a High Definition Audio in there, if so, install the updated drivers for your audio hardware.

Realtek AC'97 Audio. Vendor 10DE Device 0059, found an entry on http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=606 but no driver info.

    Chip Number: unknown

    Chip Description: nForce Audio Controller

Notes: Realtek AC97 Audio. Refer for m/b manual for proper drivers.

Found a driver on cnet that is a couple months newer than the one I have (Mine is from June 09, this one is Sept. 09) going to give it a try.

I take that back, found one from the realtek site from earlier this month.

  13. It looks like the unknown devices are parts of the motherboard.

    ACPI/PNPB006

    *PNPB006

    And

    ACPI/PNPB02F

    *PNPPB02F

Most recent dump attached, hope that is what you need. (changed the .dmp to .txt so i could post it)

Looking for drivers for the NIC, video card and motherboard.

    Thanks Coffee.

And system temps never seem to be a problem, but I'll keep a closer eye on them.

  14. Stop (blue screen) error caused by a device or driver

You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a stop error, also called a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.

Windows is unable to figure out where the problem lies and I haven't installed any new hard ware since I installed Win7. There are two devices in unknown devices in device manager. I have no idea what they are and Windows doesn't know either.

The computer blue screens or freezes randomly, but mostly when playing WoW. Or WoW will just crash.

Are there any driver scans out there that aren't malware of some sort?

    Here is my dxdiag.

  15. Sorry to be thick, but I can't see exactly where you type in "folder options" in start menu in reply above.

To solve the problem of the "greyed out Apply to All Folder button" you have to open Windows Explorer, click on Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> View Tab -> Apply to All Folders.

  16. @LordFett

Go to documents library, it will say Includes: 2 location, click on 2 location, right click on the location you want to set as default, and set it, now everything go there by default.

You can do this with the libraries in Win7 but most programs still default save/open to c:\users\user_profle\My Documents or c:\users\user_profle\Downloads.

I said I did that in my first post.

  17. LOL, can't blame me, I didn't even write that post, If I had written the first post, probably would have attached something like this.

Not blaming you at all. The code you wrote (or translated, whichever you did). I did rtfp and see the op said to create the entry. It has been a while since I've done any serious regedits and the first time in win7, just need to get my sea legs again.
