  1. Check this out: Windows 2000/2003 Wins - http://labmice.techtarget.com/networking/wins.htm The setup is about the same for both server types. I don't know of any way to use wins to block internet access. You should try ISA server for that. Wins is primarily used in mid-sized to large networks to look up information on pc's and find out what users are logged into what pc on the network. Hope this helps.
  2. are you running your server/workstations in workgroup or domain mode??
  3. As far as I know, there arent any "official" drivers for nVidia based cards running under Windows 2003 Server. The only drivers that are listed on their site are for the 64-bit versions of 2003. I have tried loading the current reference drivers for 2k/XP and ran into some problems. And also, I'm not running it as a workstation, but as a bonafide file server. Hope this helps. and just a quick offtopic question, what part of germany are you in blitzkrieg. im hoping to try and visit germany later this year, and have been trying to narrow down just what part to visit. drop me a line with any suggestions if you would. thanks.
  4. Install Remote Installation Services (RIS) from the add/remove windows components in add/remove programs in control panel. You will then need the Windows 2000/XP install media in order to place the install files on the newly defined RIS server. Check out http://labmice.techtarget.com/windows2000/install/RIS.htm. It's written for Windows 2000, but from my experience RIS under Windows 2003 Server is about the same procedure.
  5. We use Symantec Ghost v7.5 Enterprise. We tried using Drive Image, but as a friend of mine says, it's one big steaming pile of (insert expletive here). We have never had a problem with Ghost, and have used it to image serveral thousand drives. Look into it.
  6. Is it giving you any kind of errors?? I have made an XP SP1, Rollup Pack 1 cd that so far has worked without fault.
  7. Thanks. I'll try it out. I appreciate all your help.
  8. It does, but a main question i have is do the apps install before or after you have created an account? Or is that what the autologon is for?? I have read through the guide mind you, and I'm willing to admit I may have overlooked something. Thanx again!!
  9. Ok, I don't mean to reap the ire of the admins here, but is it permissible to request copies of ppl's files (winnt.sif, assorted .cmd's). I have run into a problem with my install, and am having a bugger of a time figuring it out. The install goes off without a hitch, but the apps do not install until i create an account. Is there a way to have my apps install before the user account creation?? Thanx in advance for any answers you all may bestow upon me.
