How long has it been since you burned the disc? Have you cleaned it with inside-to-outside motion? (twss)

RE: Wifi, which drivers are you using? I've had the issue with stock Lenovo drivers and latest from the chip manufacturer.

ISPs don't really support win9x in the sense that most won't be able to help you if you call in for tech support. But ipv4 will be around for many years to come and even if it were you could still run ip4v behind your ipv6 router/modem.

Interesting thought. I haven't had that problem in years. You still see this in the wild?

mvps seems the most popular. Certain tools like Spybot will also do this for you.

Nice write-up! I have the x120e but the only issue I have is that the wireless throughput erratically drops to 1MB/s which ruins streaming video.

Sounds like a driver issue. I recommend that you try to re-install the full driver suite from NViDiA's web site.

What do you mean by "feedback data they send"?

Try just turning them off. You may not miss them at all

Disabling images goes a long way to speeding things up and is quick/easy to do.

Such a hard thing to diagnose. All you can do is be careful by touching the bare metal and using the strap that many consider worthless. Electronics are just so sensitive.

I did some more searching and ended up with ClipConverter.cc. It was elegant and simple to use. Provide it with the YouTube url and it'll give you the option to download or choose from 11 different formats to convert it to (mp3, aac, wma, m4a, ogg, mp4, 3pg, avi, mpg, wmv, flv).

today it works fine again. Don't know what happened 2 days ago.
There was an internet backbone issue a couple of days ago that might still be causing issues for some people.

Juniper routers are reportedly behind an Internet outage that affected service providers and Web sites around the globe Monday morning. These things often have ripple effects that last a surprisingly long time while all of the routers get it back together.

Sounds like a well thought-out opinion so I'm glad to hear you have your preferred browser. As a FF guy I haven't paid that much attention to any IE versions in quite some time so I'll take you at your word

I set them both to manual and rebooted. Offline didn't start but Search did. I was still able to stop it, of course. So I'd guess that the Thinkpad software is still a good candidate here. Have you also checked autoruns to ensure something else isn't doing config management?

I'll go test/confirm that I can disable those services. brb

Hah, cool. I have the x120e
Have had no trouble disabling services on my Thinkpad. But I also uninstalled all of the Thinkpad software first. Sometimes those proprietary packages will undo your changes to keep them running in a pre-configured state.

Is this computer in a domain? What services are you changing?

Bah, registration was a PITA and then it wouldn't recognize the password for the account that I created. Not in the mood to deal with the hassle right now

Oh neat, hadn't seen this. Will give it a shot.

Cringely just posited a rumor that Apple will soon come out with a TV and or TV addon that basically gives you control of your media devices via Siri (that voice app).

I've read good things about it but haven't seen one in real life. I've had the suspicion that some of their great reputation could be due to fake reviews but I can't prove it.

While you're cycling it take a moment to make sure it is getting enough airflow and isn't overcome by dust.
