  1. That command only works if you are slipstreaming an Admin install. I don't think it works if you run that straight against the cd media. Create a Admin install by running Setup.exe /A Also, the version of the SP must be the Administrative version (Full File version). Also, for the other MSPs, there should be corresponding MSIs. For example: MSOWC.MSI, etc. You may not have all of them, it depends on which version of Office you have. (Pro vs Std vs Pro with Publisher, etc.)
  2. I used Wise Package Studio 5.1. But it's a high dollar app. For freeware, try WinInstallLE 2003. Basically, it's a before and after snapshot. You take the before snapshot, then install the app, make any configuration changes, in this case, add new themes, etc, then take the after snapshot. The app then compares the two snapshots and builds a msi out of the differences. That is the basics. After getting some experience under your belt, you can then edit the msi, and move/add/remove features, shortcuts, etc. I can't list step by step, as I've never used the WinInstallLE 2003. I used the one that comes with the 2000 server cd, but it was too feature limited, so I chunked it. I know there are some cheap shareware msi editors out there also, you just have to find one you like. While they all build msi installs, their user interfaces, etc are all different. Good luck!
  3. Create a custom IE6 install using the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) In it, remove OE from the install. There is also a setting to remove the OE shortcuts during the install. And if I remeber correctly, there is a way to disable the Internet Connection Wizard in it too.
  4. I couldn't find any working switches back when I was looking. It is a Wise Installer, but just using /S doesn't work. I repackaged it into a MSI for myself. I don't see anywhere in my capture where it captured the Serial Number, but it seems to install and run just fine for me. (Also, this way I changed my personal settings and pre-installed additional themes)
  5. If I run the same command line, it briefly flashes the wizard, but it still uninstalls without reboot and then disappears. But I don't think you are gonna find much more than that. Here is how to find the supported switches: C:\WINDOWS\UNNeroBurnRights.exe /HELP /SILENT - display no message boxes /NOCANCEL - disable Cancel button in Process installation dialog /NOREBOOT- disable Reboot button in Bye dialog /NOLICENCE - do not display Licence page /MULTIMGR - enable Meta installer support /CHECK_SUPREC - check for supported recorders /PATH= - indicate the target path /LANGUAGE= - indicate explicitly installing languages /LOG: - indicate path to the logging file
  6. Here are Sun's official switches, which by the way can be passed straight to the extracted MSI. http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/...ide/silent.html
  7. Try going to the Home Page tab and restore defaults. It's probably looking for a pst or some other file off the floppy drive.
  8. Look in these keys (The exported value is in Hex, so it won't help to post mine): For current user: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment TEMP= TMP= For Local Machine: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment TEMP= TMP= (Path is also set in the same key under PATH=) Set it the way you want it on your pc, then export it to a .reg file.
  9. Here ya go. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\Updater] "bShowAutoUpdateConfDialog"=dword:00000000 "iUpdateFrequency"=dword:00000000 "bShowNotifDialog"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\FeatureLockdown] "bUpdater"=dword:00000000 Or grab the .reg file: Adobe6UpdatesOff.reg
  10. Add these registry keys: "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\FeatureLockdown\bUpdater=0" "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\Updater\iUpdateFrequency=0" "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\Updater\bShowNotifDialog=0" "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\Updater\bShowAutoUpdateConfDialog=0" I use them in a transform I created along with other options, grab it from this thread that you already read (seeing as how you posted a reply in it.): http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=19245&st=10
  11. If you are never going to use the ebook reader portion of Adobe Reader, you can disable it in the msi. It is a selectable feature. Either modify the MSI, or create a transform. I would think that would prevent it alltogether, and be alot cleaner than renaming and deleting files. However, if you changed your mind and wanted to put the functionality back in, you would have to reinstall Adobe Reader.
  12. OWC10SP3ff.msp is a patch for the Office Web Components if I remember correctly, which means you need to patch the original OWC MSI not the proplus.msi. Check to make sure the updates actually apply to the verison you are using.
  13. There are a couple of ways you could do this. Easiest would probably be to try SetACL, which is a commandline tool. It will do registry and file/folder permissions. It will set them for a group or a user, etc. It can be called directly, or from within a batch file, etc.
  14. Here are the supported Nero Vision Express switches: /LANGUAGE= - Indicates explicitly installing languages /LOG:<filename> - Indicates path to the logging file /LOGLEVEL:<level> - Indicates log level (DEBUG,INFO) /NOCANCEL - Disables Cancel button in Process installation dialog /NOLICENCE - Doesn't display Licence page /NOREBOOT - Disables Reboot button in Bye dialog /NO_UI - Disables the user interface during a silent installation /PATH= - Indicates the target path /SILENT - Displays no message boxes /SN=<serial number> - Contains the serial number for creating shortcuts /WRITE_SN - Writes the serial number into the registry Works only with retail and dummy serial numbers Maybe the /NO_UI switch would work?
  15. Not to keep being off topic but..... Thanks, but it didn't get there overnight. I put the network in about 4 years ago. Then I received a small inheritance, which allowed me to get the servers, and upgrade the kids desktops, then I added on over time. It's not a "dream" setup though, the desktops are old (733's) and need to be upgraded. It just takes time. Everyone starts in the same place. (1 user, 1 pc.) Give it time. And plan it out ahead of time. I didn't even have the tools when I started. When my family asked what I wanted for holidays like Christmas, Fathers Day, etc. I gave them a list of the tools, etc.) And learn as you go. Invest in a 1000 ft spool of Cat5e and practice your crimping and punch downs. I also had the benifit of being able to borrow line test equipment from work to make sure my drops all worked correctly. I also did some work for a contractor on the side, who did alot of network wiring upgrades, so I got the old switches and patch panels that were being discarded and used those temporarily until I could afford the new ones. Which brings me back to the topic. While I did that contract work, I noticed.... Everywhere we went had very lax security. Easily guessed passwords, if any at all, etc. Which is one of the reasons I put my network in place. Security is key! Password, and set up complexity requirements and everything. You might not have a real need for it now, but alot of people have tax info, personal data, not so socially acceptable data on their systems, that they don't want comming out. You never know when you may need that password!
  16. Yeah, it's a pretty cool setup. I decided to go all out after my oldest stepson brought in a virus. My wife gave me a linen closet in the hallway to use as a server closet. So I knocked out a couple of the shelves and put 2 servers together. I left the top shelf in place and added my 24port 10/100 switch and my router. And WAY up at the top, I mounted a patch panel and then drilled a hole into the attic. Then I ran all the cable through to the various rooms. Currently, I've got the 2 servers set up. 1 as a PDC, with 120gb HD holding movies and a 80 gb HD holding mp3s . And the 2nd one I just set up, that I am in the process of configuring with SUS, and as a AntiVirus repository. I also am using AD and group policy to distribute software. (I spend most of my work time building installs for our corporate network. So I apply my knowledge at home and convert everything to a MSI then push what I want to the kids.) (NAV, WinRAR, Office, Adobe, etc) The setup is great for parties. When we have a party, I use the 2nd server as a dedicated game server. I've already got it set up to host Battlefield 1942, Desert Combat, and Quake III/Team Arena games. Each kid has his own system. (I've got 5 boys). Plus my wife's system, plus 2 spares for when the grandkids come over. (8 desktops total). Plus my laptop. Plus 2 Print servers, plus 2 Xbox's. I am considering a media center PC for the living room. But I'm not sure yet. I also want to add a wireless access point, but we'll see how the money holds up. Just one of the benefits of being a network admin/install builder I guess
  17. I've set up a pdc in my house, all my family logs in to it, and all require passwords. Each kid has his own pc, and each user id is restricted to their particular pc, and during normal waking hours, so not only do they have to use a password, it only works on their machine, and only during the daytime. (I've been awakened at night to find my kids asleep on their keyboards, so we put a stop to that the hard way.)
  18. I am running McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 on all my 2003 servers (about 80 or so), and no problems installing or updating. Must be retail home user version that requires compatabilty mode.
  19. It should have been included with the license for VirusScan Enterprise 7.10. If you know your grant number, go to the McAfee web site and you can download it there. https://secure.nai.com/us/forms/downloads/upgrades/login.asp
  20. I don't see any difference between them. Once it is installed, if I go to About VirusScan Enterprise in the systray, it just says licensed. Tried it on the 1 year license and tried it on perpetual. But a little helpful advice for all using VirusScan Enterprise. Create your install with the McAfee Installation Designer 7.10 It allows custom settings, such as OnDemand task scheduling AutoUpdate task scheduling patch installation registry settings changes updated dats and engines, silent install etc then it recompiles it into a new MSI file.
  21. I found the transform, but mine is created for a Admin install, not the straight out download, so I tried to recreate it. I have not tested it, so give it a try and let me know. Again, this transform will: 1) add registry keys to disable the EULA. 2) disable the automatic updates feature. 3) disable the stupid advertisment box. 4) NOT install the "PrintMe" features (Also yanked the "PrintMe" shortcuts.) Drop it into the same folder as the Adobe Reader install. Also, I don't use this in a unattend, I use it in a corporate environment, so I'm not up on the unattend commandlines, but I "think" it would be something like this: "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\AdobeReader6\AdbeRdr60_enu_full.exe -p -s /v\ TRANSFORMS=CUSTOMINSTALL.MST /qn\" /f (Personally, I use the extracted msi to install reader, I don't call it from the crappy NetOpSystems exe. But mine are force installing from a server, where space isn't an issue. ) CustomInstall.mst CustomInstall.mst
  22. You can remove the "PrintMe" by using a transform. It is a selectable feature. You just change it to not install, and then save as a transform. btw...you can also all all your customizations to the same transform... for example the EULA and Splash screen like WwTIPPYwW mentioned, can be added to the same transform. I have a transform I created for here at work that adds the EULA keys, disables the automatic updates, disables the stupid advertisment box, and does not install the "PrintMe" features. If anyone is interested, I will try to dig it up and post it.
  23. Well..I can't say for sure, but Q816093.exe is a java package. Is this a SP1 or SP1a CD? Because if it's a SP1a CD, you have to install the full JVM prior to this update. Also, some patches/hotfixes will add their own entries to the runonce key. Maybe the error is from this update? Try removing it and trying again, or check the SP1 vs SP1a thing. Hope your are testing on VMWare or Virtual PC to save CDs!
  24. For windows installer, it would depend on what you use to edit the MSI. I would create a Transform file, and change the path of the shortcut in the Transform. The easiest way, would be go into the shortcut table and change the path of the shortcut. I use Wise Package Studio 5.1 and it's just a drop down box. It lists all the predefined folders in the MSI and you either select one, or create a new one. Then, save the Transform. Or for those who don't want a transform, change the actual MSI and resave it.
  25. For windows installer, it's <sourcepath>\product.msi INSTALLDIR=<Path> remember to use quotes for those paths with spaces.
