  1. Here it is - http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2012/10/28/upgrading-to-windows-8-part-1.aspx

    Here is what each of these options mean:

    1 - Windows settings, personal files and apps: This setting captures all Windows settings, personal files (files held in the C:\Users directory) and any applications installed on the system. This is equivalent to performing an in-place-upgrade.

    2 - Just personal files: This setting migrates items located in the \Users directory. No applications or user settings are migrated.

    3 - Nothing: This setting does not migrate any data and is effectively a clean install of Windows. The old operating system moves to the Windows.old directory.

    You chose Option 2. And it APPEARS that a "Windows.old" fold would indeed been created, thus "filling" your HDD - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/72bfccf8-c6c1-4bbe-88f8-284d9c6311d0/
  2. WinPE - Win32 version of CMD. Try Command Prompt then "help" as the Command.

    DATE Displays or sets the date.

    TIME Displays or sets the system time.

    I was telling the "default" Time Zone.

    Read this for what "happens"...

    http://www.myitforum.com/forums/Time-Change-during-OSD-in-WinPE-m214612.aspx

    IOW, there IS NO "TIME ZONE" in WinPE - it works from the "base" of "GMT-8", i.e "Assume GMT in the BIOS, now subtract EIGHT".

  3. AMI BIOS... A HINT - Press the "Pause/Break" button (top row, far right) when you first turn it it. If you're lucky (no Manufacturer Logo), it'll show you AND give your exact BIOS-ID.

    Here's a "general list" of BIOS Access Keys -

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/biosaccess_bios.htm

    Again, be aware of the BIOS updates provided that MAY not work. If you REALLY want to Update the BIOS, I'll check them out and give EXACT procedures for backup/restore if worse-to-worse. It APPEARS to (maybe) have two different BIOS Chip manufacturer types, MXIC/Macronix or "Other"/ST-something-or-other. Potentially, you can get up to 32gb HDD and a "better" CPU (up to a 533mhz) to work in it. I think your RAM may be maxed out.

  4. IF you are using the "crystal_CS4280.zip" THEN -

    1 - UNZIP to ANOTHER folder of your choice. You must CREATE one FIRST!

    2 - DO NOT use the SETUP.EXE found inside. POINT to the FOLDER and/or the "CWCAUDIO.INF" instead.

    3 - IF you are asked to REBOOOT -and- asked, POINT TO THAT FOLDER again!

    Inside that INF is THIS

    [DestinationDirs]
    CS4610SP.CopyList = 10,cwcdata
    DefaultDestDir = 11
    <snip>
    [SourceDisksNames]
    1=%Disk1Name%,,0001
    73170=WHQL,"",73170

    [SourceDisksFiles]
    cwc3d.os_=1
    <snip>
    FUSV2870.cat=73170

    [Strings]
    <snip>
    Disk1Name="Crystal SoundFusion(tm) Driver Disk 1"
    Disk2Name="Crystal SoundFusion(tm) Driver Disk 2"

    THESE specifically mean "what-folder/where-the-files-are" (Source) and where to COPY them to (Destination). Explaining how an INF works here is beside the point and numerous topics exist on MSFN for that so I don't want to repeat all of the details. The "SETUP.EXE" is totally unnecessary/irrelevant.

    Directly from the Motherboard Documentation

    Audio Subsystem

    • Crystal CS4280 PCI audio controller with fully DOS Games compatibility via PC/PCI, DDMA support

    • Compatible with sound blaster, sound blaster pro, and window sound system

    • Enhanced Stereo full duplex operation

    • Advanced MPC3-compatible input and output mixer

    • Joystick port and MPU-401 compatible MIDI interface

    • PC97 and PC98 compliance(and compliance with preliminary PC99)

    The Block Diagram has the Sound Chip as "CS4280" and the AC97 Codec Chip as "CS4297". These work in conjunction with each other if you look at it. Google this
    cs4280 cs4297

    gives a bunch of Datasheets and Links that say "Sound Fusion". Here is a link to the Vendor's Website announcing the Chip - http://www.cirrus.com/en/company/releases/P109.html and THIS gives a Self-Extracting WINZIP file that specifically states THAT COMBO OF CHIPS and the contents are nearly IDENTICAL! http://www.fujitsu-pc-asia.com/driversupport/archiveddriver/Desktop/drv_dp6000_sc6.html

    If you read the FIRST link you'll see why the Drivers for CS4610 Chip work with CS4280 Chip.

    You're doing something wrong! I can NOT test this as I NO LONGER HAVE any of the old PC's because they went to the Recyclers.

    (sigh...) Searched some more. Apparently HP XM600 uses it too! Here is a COMPLETE package (nearly identical and NEWER) but ALSO includes (from the Readme) "CrystalWave Software Synthesizer version 2.33". IOW, you DO have EXACTLY what's needed and are OBVIOUSLY doing it wrong! AND from reading THIS the "SETUP.EXE" should work!

    [installation]

    1. Using Explorer or My Computer, search for the CrystalWave installation

    files and double click on FV2883\SETUP.EXE to install the driver.

    2. Using Explorer or My Computer, search for the CrystalWave installation

    files and double click on CWUS233R\SETUP.EXE in order to

    to install the Wave Table Application.

    Press the "Install CrystalWave Synthesizer" button.

    Then follow the instructions.

    Please note that DirectX is a requirement and must be

    installed in order for Wave Table Application to work.

    HTH...

  5. Your choice of "Beta" or "stable I suppose. Beta's are usually (sic) "pre-release".

    http://webtrends.about.com/od/glossary/g/beta_define.htm

    A beta test is a limited release of a product with a goal of finding bugs before the final release.
    Basically, they're shooting for the next Full Release v3.

    The Beta from each site is undoubtedly exactly the same.

    MSI Afterburner 3.0.0 Beta 9 Download - Guru3D and MSI have been working hard on AfterBurner, today we release an updated this Beta revision of Afterburner, this application successfully secured the leading position on graphics card utilities.
    Notice BOTH names mentioned?

    If in doubt, try the "stable" release first and see if you're satisfied with it.

  6. Well, YES there's a difference. Didn't you notice the Version Number and the link originally given says BETA?

    MSI Afterburner Version 2.3.1 (2013/1/23)
    MSI Afterburner 3.0.0 Beta 9
  7. OK, on a side note - that EXE file I pointed you to is OBVIOUSLY not a ZIP file! I said RUN the EXE and IT will unPACK to a folder of your choice and AUTOMATICALLY RUN the Installer - it's a Self-Extracting Installer. You apparently were confusing it with the OTHER one.

    No matter...

    You mean "640 x 480"?

    Adjusting Screen Position can't be from Drivers - that's strictly hardware. You may have a bad monitor? FWIW, you MAY want the INF file for your Monitor. If you say what the Model is on back I may have one. It DOES help a bit.

  8. Sadly, I have NO ACCOUNT anywhere. :( The CD is approx. 377mb and contains a folder called "Goodies" (approx 280mb) which INCLUDES (AFAICT) -

    - Adobe Reader v7

    - Alternate Installer (Alohabob.exe - 68mb) - contents has a program "PCRACTIVATE.EXE"

    --- Google finds Keys (whatever) for older versions

    --- Release Notes says "Version 6.2.9.1"

    --- Driver Folder in the INF "WinDrvr6.inf: Jungo WinDriver v6.2.2 Installation file"

    --- (etc etc)

    - Blancco Data Cleaner

    - IE 6.0.28 (???)

    - MS Office (NOT the Product) - 97+2000 Service Packs + MSICUU (Win2k)

    - MSI - 1.1 / 2.0 / 3.1

    - OE5 RegClean

    - PC Backup Lite (another one of the Manuf. products but Lite vers.)

    - A folder w/the Win95/NT versions of MSICUU.EXE

    - "Other" stuff (folders specific to PC Relocator)

    "Readme" says "For convenience only". Odd that all of that is ther - must have had a Distribution Agreement.

    The BASE CD Install (excluding the Goodies) for the Software has the Driver INF stating "Jungo WinDriver v6.2.2"...

    So... what are the Options on this? Seems a shame that this would "disappear" into the ether if I don't make it to Retirement. :P

    The ONLY thing I could possibly do would have to be PRIVATE by "other means"... We're treading on dangerous grounds... ANd I'm REALLY unsure if this would work with other cables. One might "assume" that it would since the Driver seems to be from "jungoDOTcom"... :unsure:

    ...and almost wish I hadn't brought it up. :ph34r:

    !!! "Jungo is now part of Cisco"!!! (go ahead, go to the website...)

    Further info (inspecting the Driver Folder) - Jungo "windrvr6.sys" (google that) appears to be a "generic" USB and ANOTHER "EWUSB.INF" seems to be what the Vendor used.

    ; Installation file (.inf) for USB Bridge Cables
    ; Portions Copyright (c) 2004 Eisenworld, Inc.
    ; Portions Copyright (c) 2004 Prolific Technology, Inc.
    ; Portions Copyright (c) ALi, Inc.
    <snip>
    [DeviceList]
    "Alohabob USB Bridge Cable"=Install, USB\VID_067B&PID_0000
    "Alohabob USB ALi Cable"=Install, USB\VID_0402&PID_5632
    <snip>
    [Strings]
    jun="Jungo LTD."
    Mfg="Prolific Technology, Inc./ALi"

    The SOFTWARE appears to create "xxx.DMV" files that can be "browsed" and specific files extracted (similar to Ghost Explorer). I REALLY don't know how MS (or MSFN) would feel about this since they BOUGHT them out (not Jungo, but the Software).

    In addition (inside the Driver folder) are several EXE files - google

    wdreg.exe

    to see what "they" do.

    Zipping the USB folder (JUST the Drivers/EXE's) amounts to 313kb...

  9. ? You DO (also Video - must be PCI - not seen in Picture)???

    AFAICR, you can add another VideoCard and MAYBE another SoundCard. The OnBoard Video has a limited amount of RAM so it does kind of stink. I THINK I had done that on a 533id (can't remember...). Will check to see how the OnBoard gets Disabled, if at all. If NOT, you'll (probably) have to select WHICH Device you'll be using ATM. Others may chime in on this particular subject...

    edit here for looked at Document - Jumper J1 will Disable On-Board Video. You'll need the Win95 Drivers for WHATEVER Add-On VideoCard you put in...

    As far as Sound, I'm pretty sure you can have BOTH if yu REALLY want to and just select the appropriate Device in (various) Managers.

    Also APPEARS that to use OnBoard Joystick you need an Add-On Cable. Not sure if that USB Header is for an additional USB Connector or not (see page #12).

    Start without extra Add-On Cards and work from there. You MAY not need them, depending on what you intend to do with the computer. You ARE, after all, installing Win95 on it...

  10. @jaclaz :no: - TOTALLY insane (I have grandkids "permanently" living with us)... :crazy:

    IF this is "useful" info perhaps the FULL instructions from Fred's website should be gathered (assuming he doesn't care) for step-by-step into a separate topic and "Stuckied" somewhere. :unsure:

    edit - forgot to mention - I had left that other Topic subsequently untouched to prevent further "hassle"...

  11. On another note, I just stumbled into another interesting matter: Windows Easy Transfer. It's (among other functions) a driver for a special cable that allows USB-to-USB direct transfer between computers. The MS driver ony works with XP but maybe it can be made to work in 9x. The package is rather weird, many .man files (containing xml-formatted manifests). I found a link to it here.
    Never thought about it before even after I had been (kind of ) following this Topic...

    It just so happens I have an Alohabob USB Cable with the "PC Relocator Easy Transfer" v6.x software/drivers (Eisenworld) on CD. It HAS the Win98 USB Files on it! Thrift Store around the corner $0.99 in the box!

    In addition, I found THIS which clearly indicates that MS PURCHASED this bad boy and (apparently) continued development and DROPPED Win9x (see link within Drugwash' link)! The original Websites are apparently shut down (since MS bought them out).

    edit (followup) - Yep, more info here. I have no clue as to what good it is without corresponding software. Mine is apparently only for 9x/XP...

    Any further interest in this, or is it currently irrelevant?
