  1. OK Thanks How do I add our logo? - Where on the USB drive do I put our logo and in what format. Also what do I need to add to the XML file to add the logo. Thanks
  2. Seems strange that I can do it in XP but not for Vista? - Why would they remove that feature. When our customer gets their XP machines they get the OoBE and have to enter their XP licence key. Simply want the same for our Vista customers. Must be a way?!
  3. My situation is: We are OEM system builders but change the hardware we use quite often, i.e. differnet motherboards and processors etc. We currently pre-install Windows XP Home & Pro via a network share where we have integrated all of the windows updates and use the RunOnce to load a few applications silently once setup has finished. We then manually load the drivers from the motherboard CD and click Reseal. After reading about Vista preinstalls is it true that the best option for me is to use the original Vista OEM DVD and make an Autounattended.xml file on a USB flash drive? If so my questions are: 1) Can we brand? - Would this mean putting our logo on the USB stick 2) Can we load any updates and applications sich as Adobe Reader, Firefox etc. 3) We install a mixture of the 4 versions of vista so could we use the same usb pen drive for all versions? 4) Could we install without putting a product key in and get the end user to enter like they do at the moment with Windows XP. Look forward to your comments, Thank You
  4. The situation I have is that I have an Microsoft Open Licence Media Disc with the product key for 30 PCs. I need to install Windows XP Professional on all 30 PCs but they are not on a network and they are all in different rooms around a school. I need to find a way of an unattended installation using the Media Disc. What would be the best way of doing it so it would not prompt for serial/network settings etc. ? Thanks Owain
  5. Still getting to DOS screen with nothing else loading! - My .xml file is below: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend"> <settings pass="windowsPE"> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-International-Core-WinPE" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <SetupUILanguage> <UILanguage>en-US</UILanguage> </SetupUILanguage> <InputLocale>0080:00000809</InputLocale> <SystemLocale>en-GB</SystemLocale> <UILanguage>en-US</UILanguage> <UILanguageFallback>en-US</UILanguageFallback> <UserLocale>en-GB</UserLocale> </component> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Setup" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <DiskConfiguration> <Disk wcm:action="add"> <CreatePartitions> <CreatePartition wcm:action="add"> <Extend>true</Extend> <Order>1</Order> <Type>Primary</Type> </CreatePartition> </CreatePartitions> <ModifyPartitions> <ModifyPartition wcm:action="add"> <Active>true</Active> <Format>NTFS</Format> <Label>Vista</Label> <Letter>C</Letter> <Order>1</Order> <PartitionID>1</PartitionID> </ModifyPartition> </ModifyPartitions> <DiskID>0</DiskID> <WillWipeDisk>true</WillWipeDisk> </Disk> <WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI> </DiskConfiguration> <ImageInstall> <OSImage> <InstallTo> <DiskID>0</DiskID> <PartitionID>1</PartitionID> </InstallTo> <WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI> </OSImage> </ImageInstall> <UserData> <ProductKey> <Key>RCG7P-TX42D-HM8FM-TCFCW-3V4VD</Key> <WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI> </ProductKey> <AcceptEula>true</AcceptEula> </UserData> </component> </settings> <settings pass="specialize"> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <OEMInformation> <HelpCustomized>false</HelpCustomized> <Manufacturer>Swan CD Ltd</Manufacturer> <Model>Titan</Model> <SupportHours>9-5</SupportHours> <SupportPhone>0870 4430158</SupportPhone> <SupportURL>http://www.swancd.co.uk</SupportURL> </OEMInformation> </component> </settings> <settings pass="oobeSystem"> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <AutoLogon> <Password> <Value>UABAAHMAcwB3ADAAcgBkAFAAYQBzAHMAdwBvAHIAZAA=</Value> <PlainText>false</PlainText> </Password> <Enabled>true</Enabled> <LogonCount>5</LogonCount> <Username>Administrator</Username> </AutoLogon> <OOBE> <HideEULAPage>true</HideEULAPage> <ProtectYourPC>3</ProtectYourPC> <SkipUserOOBE>true</SkipUserOOBE> <NetworkLocation>Home</NetworkLocation> </OOBE> <UserAccounts> <AdministratorPassword> <Value>UABAAHMAcwB3ADAAcgBkAEEAZABtAGkAbgBpAHMAdAByAGEAdABvAHIAUABhAHMAcwB3AG8AcgBkAA==</Value> <PlainText>false</PlainText> </AdministratorPassword> </UserAccounts> </component> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Deployment" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <Reseal> <Mode>Audit</Mode> </Reseal> </component> </settings> <settings pass="generalize"> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpSysprep" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <PersistAllDeviceInstalls>true</PersistAllDeviceInstalls> </component> </settings> <cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim://swancdserver/vistadisk/install.wim#Windows Vista HOMEBASIC" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" /> </unattend> Everything compiles OK in the Image program. Any ideas what is going on? - Using a network card that works fine with our Windows XP pre-installs.
  6. When we connect a workstation to a server we open Outlook 2003 and add the exchange account for that user. The problem is that sometimes that person may work on another machine an when they open Outlook they are propted to create an account. What we would like to do is to add the creatin of the account during the login VBS script (or some other method!) Currently the login VBS script is as follows: ' VBScript. ON ERROR RESUME NEXT Dim oNet, sUser Set oNet = CreateObject("Wscript.Network") sUser =oNet.UserName oNet.MapNetworkDrive "X:", "\\server\shared" 'Printer.vbs - Printer Logon Script Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\server\Kyocera" Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\server\Epson2100" Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\server\HP1220c" Dim objNetwork, strUNCPrinter strUNCPrinter = "\\Server\HP1220C" Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection strUNCPrinter ' Here is where we set the default printer to strUNCPrinter objNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter strUNCPrinter Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network") 'WScript.Echo "Computer Name = " & WshNetwork.ComputerName & Chr(13) & "User Name = " & WshNetwork.UserName WScript.Echo "Welcome to The Windows 2003 Domain." & Chr(13) & "You are Logged on as " & WshNetwork.UserName & "." & Chr(13) & "Network Installed and Supported by XXX - 0870 111111" Hope someone can provide a solution! Thanks!
  7. Why do I need to remove the key? Its available from Microsoft as a key that can't be activated - it is to be used ONLY for pre-installation.
  8. Hi, we have copied the install.wim file onto our SBS2003 and created the following answer file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> - <unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend"> - <settings pass="windowsPE"> - <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Setup" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> - <DiskConfiguration> <WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI> - <Disk wcm:action="add"> - <CreatePartitions> - <CreatePartition wcm:action="add"> <Order>1</Order> <Size>65000</Size> <Type>Primary</Type> </CreatePartition> </CreatePartitions> - <ModifyPartitions> - <ModifyPartition wcm:action="add"> <Active>true</Active> <Extend>false</Extend> <Format>NTFS</Format> <Label>OS_Install</Label> <Letter>C</Letter> <Order>1</Order> <PartitionID>1</PartitionID> </ModifyPartition> </ModifyPartitions> <DiskID>0</DiskID> <WillWipeDisk>true</WillWipeDisk> </Disk> </DiskConfiguration> - <ImageInstall> - <OSImage> - <InstallTo> <DiskID>0</DiskID> <PartitionID>1</PartitionID> </InstallTo> <WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI> </OSImage> </ImageInstall> - <UserData> - <ProductKey> <Key>RCG7P-TX42D-HM8FM-TCFCW-3V4VD</Key> <WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI> </ProductKey> <AcceptEula>true</AcceptEula> </UserData> </component> </settings> - <settings pass="oobeSystem"> - <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> - <OOBE> <HideEULAPage>true</HideEULAPage> <ProtectYourPC>3</ProtectYourPC> <SkipMachineOOBE>true</SkipMachineOOBE> <SkipUserOOBE>true</SkipUserOOBE> </OOBE> - <AutoLogon> <Enabled>true</Enabled> <LogonCount>5</LogonCount> <Username>Administrator</Username> </AutoLogon> </component> </settings> <cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim://swancdserver/vistadisk/install.wim#Windows Vista HOMEBASIC" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" /> </unattend> When we boot from the pre-install CD with the floppy disk with the Autounattend.xml file in we get the MS-DOS screen with: X:\windows\system32\wpeinit\ X:\windows\system32\ The system then just stops. We have shared the folder that the install.wim is in and we have validated the answer file. Any ideas what we are doing wrong? Best regards, Owain
  9. When I try and create a shared calendar using SBS2003 I do the following: On a users PC open Outlook, go to Folder View, right click the Personal Folder - NEW FOLDER - Calendar Item then I name it and press OK but I get error that I don't have permissions to do this. I have found a few solutions on microsoft.com but they are for exchange server - any ideas what I can do to get the above to work. At the moment they are using the Vacation Calendar on http://companyweb Thanks
  10. More Detail... Say company is abc.com - Their website and e-mails are www.abc.com and whatever@abc.com I called their server abc.com (not knowing what I know now!) In the office is say: ben@abc.com bob@abc.com and amy@abc.com - These people can send e-mails to each other fine and to anyone else outside of the company. In another office (abroad) there is say jim@abc.com, tom@abc.com. People from the above office CAN'T send messages to these people. But these can send to the above office. I think its because they are going from the first office to the SBS2003 which is rejecting them as they are not a user on that server. What I need them to do is to always go outside of the server to the ISP to be delivered to the 2nd offices PCs using the POP accounts they have on their Outlook. Make sence?! Thanks!
  11. Any one have any suggestions? - This is quite urgent!
  12. Further to the above issue..... When a user from the office where the server is e-mails a user in another country that also use the e-mail (pop3 boxes) it gets returned. I guess its because I have called the server the same as the domain name. When I added the DNS lookups (above) they are able to access their website fine. Is there an easy solution to make sure that the e-mails leave the server to the other users? Thanks!
  13. Without sound stupid how can I vigorously check that they are both using the SBS2003 Server's DNS? Also if they are not how can I make it so they are. Thanks
  14. Yes both have the same I think.
  15. Been working fine, but now when I try and connect the 2000 Server to the SBS 2003 server I get the error about the network path not found. I can do the following: * Ping the SBS2003 IP * Ping the domain * Ping the server name I have tried making the 2000 Server a workgroup then back to domain but still fails. When I tell it to add to a domain I am prompted with the username & Password box and when I put the correct details in here I then get the error about the network path not found. Both the SMS2003 & 2000 server have static external IPs and static internet IPs Any suggestions what can be done? Thanks
  16. Great! All working thanks!
  17. Quick walkthrough how I caan achieve this? Thanks for the help and advice!
  18. I have installed a SBS2003 with the domain being company-site.com (example!). Everything went fine with the install. With the e-mail they way they wanted it setup was to create an exchange mailbox and then create a POP3 account storing the messages in the exchange box. All this is ok, but the pop/smtp servers are mail.company-site.com but it says it can't find them. Same happenes in IE when you try and browse their website. Site works fine outside of domain. To get around the mail problem I have entered the IP of their hosting company into the pop/smtp and that works, but they still can't get website. I guess its because I didn't setup domain as being company-site.local or something. Any ideas how this can be sorted - can I do something with DNS ? Thanks
  19. Just setup a new SBS2003 Server. Have configured each users home folder to be a mapped drive H:\ How can I use Group Policy to "redirect" their My Documents folder to the H:\ so that all files are stored on the SBS2003. Am new to this so if someone could give precise instructions that would be great! Also....... 2-3 people have laptops and want to be able to take their files "on the road". I guess I need to enable Offline Files and select the files etc. Again if someone could give precise instructions that would be great! Thanks in advance!
  20. Thanks, If you could provide some detailed instructions on how to implement that would be great! (or point me in the direction that I can get some). I have been into My Computer - right clicked C: and created a shadow copy, went into the Backup program but can't seem to find anywhere in there that will let me backup using VSS. Thanks
  21. I have restarted the "Microsoft Exchange POP3" service and the "Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes". Anything else I can try? Urgently need to get this up and running.
  22. Is there anyway I can post the even log here? - Would it cause a security risk? Type: Error Date: 10.10.06 Time: 15.06 Source: POP3 Connector Category: Download Event: 1019 User: N/A Computer: SERVER UPDATE: When they go into their Outlook on local machine they get error "0x80004005"
  23. Customers server crashed over night. They rebooted server and logged in OK. When we login to their web access they don't have anything in their INBOX but when we scroll down to a folder called SYNC ISSUES -> SERVER FAILURES all the e-mails are there. This is only on the web access, when they login with Outlook locally on their machine they can't see any of their e-mails. Any ideas?! Thanks UPDATE: I have restarted all the Exchange services but still nothing. The e-mail arrives in the Inbox for a few seconds then once you refresh the screen it moves to the Server Failures folder.
  24. Customer of ours has a Windows Small Business Server 2003 in the UK. The backup runs each night at approx 2AM. The problem is that they have a few members of staff in other countries who are trying to use their e-mail during the time the server is backing up. They are reporting that they can't access it during this time. Do we need to implement Shadow Backup or something like that? Would be great if someone could point me in the direction of a solution. Thanks
  25. Just wondering is there some VBS script we can add to our clients login scripts that will redirect MS Office 2003 default save location to the users H:\ on the server? At the moment we go through each PC manually to change the location. Any help would be great. Thanks
