  4. We're closing in. I owe you an apology because apparantly I can place scripten.exe and rootsupd.exe inside HF. There was another problem I noticed but I didn't mention it because I thought it wasn't relevant. One or more files inside SOURCE\I386 had gotten corrupt. I noticed that after I wanted to start out clean but Windows wouldn't let me delete some of the files inside the SOURCE\I386; I could only get rid of them after doing a chkdsk first. Did the files just got corrupt or am I not allowed to re-use the SOURCE folder? Either way, I'm copying over the files from the SP4-slipstreamed CD every time I make a new Total Slipstream now. Putting scripten.exe (and rootsupd.exe) back in HF got me through the Windows setup without errors this time, and Windows Update doesn't require me to download the JScript 5.6 update anymore. One new problem, though... WU provides me with the 896727 update but I had it in the HF folder...

  8. Well... I'm aware of the fact you can never be up-to-date, but I'm talking about a patch dated March 2003... I believe you are referring to Sun.I'm using JRE 1.5.0_04 so whether the MS version is up-to-date or not shouldn't be an issue. In that case I prefer to not see "unneeded" updates on WU...

  10. It's not that I want it. It's the only way to keep Windows Update happy. If I don't include the 5.6 update, WU complains. If I include 5.6, WU complains.   12. It apparantly fixed the problem anyway. I relocated scripten.exe as well as rootsupd.exe into SVPK_SW and the Windows installation now ends like it should (ie, without Digital Signature warning, and without the winlogon.exe error). I've also replaced the five new hotfixes that can be downloaded, and WU is all cool (except for the IE cumulative but that's one big "du'h" ). The problem with JScript 5.6 seems to have arisen again, though. I'm going to put back the 5.1 update...
  13. I'm using DVD+RWs... Update... I've removed the latest hotfixes, made a new DVD (not CD as I mentioned before) and installed it. I was again presented a "Digital signature not found" window so it's not related to the new hotfixes. This time, I pressed the "More info" button and the file that wants to be installed is "setup50.ex_" from the DVD's I386 folder. The type is "Sound, video & game controller". After logging in, winlogon.exe came up again with the beforementioned result. I'd sure like to nail this one. Since this only happened with the last two slipstreams, the two remaining possibilities are: - scripten.exe - putting rootsupd.exe in the HF folder instead of in the SVPK_SW folder On a positive note, the reboot problem is caused by the floppy drivers for my nForce4 SATA controller. I did the unattended installations on a parallel ATA drive because you can't install mass storage drivers from a floppy during an unattend (at least not via the "F6" method), which is why the reboot problem didn't occur then. I've installed the latest slipstream on a PATA drive (non-unattended) and I had no reboot problem.
  14. I'm doing it on an empty 8 gig partition... Should be enough I think... Sorry; I wanted to keep it short. I make a bootable CD with the content of the SOURCESS folder and install Win2K from it. When installation has completed, I click OK at the dialog to reboot the machine. What happens next is that the dialog goes away and then the background wallpaper, showing me only a green background color and a mouse cursor. But it stays like that... The system doesn't reboot. Nothing was hidden from me at the previous attempts -- only the last one. I think it's because of the new hotfixes so I'll make another CD now to verify that.

  16. I placed scripten.exe (thanks ) inside the HF folder, but forgot to add the WMP9 update. So naturally Windows Update presented me with that update but also another one: KB828026 from 5/15/2004. I assume that's part of the WMP9 hotfix. I'll make another CD after I wake up to verify that. 5 new critical updates have emerged on the WU site I see. The new cumulative update for IE6 (896727) apparantly can't be downloaded separately yet, but the others can be. I have added them to the slipstream but it appears they aren't "ready" for that yet. During the "Registering settings" portion of setup, I got a pop-up saying that a digital signature wasn't found -- don't know where that suddenly came from. When booting into Windows, a pop-up appears titled "winlogon.exe - Unable to locate DLL" with the following description: "The dynamic link library TxfAux.Dll could not be found in the specified path." Related to the new hotfixes I presume. The system is more or less blank -- no IE, and iexplore.exe doesn't even exist inside its program folder. Funny... It still doesn't reboot properly after installation has finished, though.
  17. Ah, OK. I got the file now. And I'm using the English version of Windows, btw. After going through 95, 98 and ME in Dutch it was time for some stability increase... Windows XP Dutch seems to be stable but I'm now used to working with English versions of Windows, so... no Dutch. Thanks for the help.

The first problem seems to have been covered some time ago: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=10975 Either way, I was wondering if anyone had come up with a solution to the above problem whereby you can't format a selected partition during an unattended installation of Windows 2000. Whenever I select a drive, I expect to get the page with the various formatting options (NTFS, FAT32 & Leave alone) but it proceeds with copying files instead. I'd like to avoid having to go as far as using additional tools (I already use EFDISK). The current "workaround" is to delete the partition first, but that causes the partition order to be messed up. The second problem is that, whatever I do, an additional keyboard layout is being installed inspite of my "thoroughness": [unattended] KeyboardLayout=00000813 [RegionalSettings] SystemLocale=00000809 UserLocale=00000809 InputLocale=0809:00000813 Inspite of this, English/English is still in the list (next to "English/Belgian Dutch"). The first CD I made was with SCRIPTEN.CAB (I use the English version) inside the IESRC folder, as part of the IE6 package, and without the JScript update (because it wasn't documented in the help file). After installing that, I went to Windows Update and I was presented two critical updates; Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool and the JScript 5.6 update. I downloaded the JScript 5.6 update and placed it inside the SVPK_SW folder because of the switches it needs to be installed. That didn't help (Windows Update still claimed it wasn't installed). Then I found a post by someone stating that the JScript 5.1 should be used instead, and that worked. So, if I add SCRIPTEN.CAB to the HF folder (and ditch the JScript update), Windows Update should no longer complain? Also, do I put it ONLY in the HF folder or both in the HF and the IESRC folder?
  22. Another interesting project. I'm gonna keep an eye on this one too. I'd vote for a package that combines the Basic + IE6 + DX9; basically, everything you got except dotNET (because I loathe it) and WMP9 (because I don't like the looks: the interface doesn't compare to 6.4, even in "Classic" mode). But if the separate packages for Basic, IE6 and DX9 can be slipstreamed together into an SP4 source that shouldn't be an issue (Is this possibility documented somewhere?). I'm not too sure about naming it "SP5", though (and "SP3" for the XP update). Service Packs are cumulative but your updates are not. Sticking to "Full Post SP4 Rollup" would probably be more appropriate as to not confuse anyone. Although... I wouldn't mind seeing a REAL SP5 update... Edit: There is a separate folder inside the SP5-RC3 package. Am I supposed to throw it on top of the existing folder in the CD? If I extract W2KSP5_EN.EXE and do a slipstream through UPDATE.EXE, I suppose nothing will be done automatically with that extra folder.

  24. Thanks for the reply. I can't find it at the moment but it was in a forum thread related to a similar project. People were complaining that Windows Update still reported their systems needed the JScript 5.6 update, even when they included it in the slipstream program. Someone claimed that using the JScript 5.1 update instead works, so it was assumed that IE6 was applied after the JScript 5.6 update, messing it up. I knew that, but thanks. Not the IESRC folder? OK; I'll give that a try. Do I "eliminate" using the JScript 5.6 fix as well? It's in there already; I considered that a "hotfix" in my previous post. The "hfslip" directory was in the root of the E: drive, but I created two of these called "hfslips" and "hfslipt" for the two versions I made. My first attempt was done from a folder called "hfslip", though.
