  1. yes I just paste the script for every release.. I posted it here: What Burning Software Do You Use, hoping Tommyp would incorporate it to hfslip...
  2. I'm getting 0 File(s) copied message with 898461.. I checked even with the last stable release of HFSLIP, still the same. It's not that it's a big deal with me since I don't seem to have a problem with Windows Update. Besides, I always manually install updates after downloading them.. I'm just wondering if it's okay to have this "0 File(s) copied" message? hfsilent.zip
  3. Page 3 of HFSLIP instruction (in CMD file) still refers to MSICabExtract as needed in HFTOOLS... maybe it could be updated so as not to confused new users... just a suggestion though..
  4. rickybez, i suggest you try making silent switchless installers with your exes then put them in HFSVCPACK, that's what i do with .net 1.1 and 2.0 and my antivirus...
  5. hey Tomcat76, you've been very busy with HFSLIP this past few days. thanks for all your hardwork. very much appreciated! btw, the latest test release works great for me.. am with XPSP2. thanks again!
  6. Thanks, the_guy, for this list...
  7. In the league of GParted and PartitionLogic is QTParted. Its packaged with SystemRescueCD, which also has PartImage, a partition imaging/backup/restore program. I'm a happy user of it.
  8. Oops, sorry... Am using WXPSP2.. Edit: Am now using 60911a, and, of course, it also handled all the latest HFs..
  9. Am still using 60901a, as I do not have 7z addons at the moment, but I just want to mention that all the September updates HPSLIPped flawlessly. Windows Update has no complains whatsoever...
  10. This may be a little late but I've noticed from this page: User Profile Hive Cleanup that it was udpated August 22, 2006 with version 1.6d. It has the same MD5 checksum with the one I'm using (and Super Magician's MD5 list) with my recent HF builds which I downloaded June 8. I just thought I'd let you know to be sure we're using the latest version of this file..
  11. @NtegrA If I may reply to this.. That is not what he mean (maybe). But in any case, you should not do that, that is use SOURCESS as your SOURCE, cause HFSLIP only work with a CLEAN SOURCE (it may be slipstreamed with SP2 but no other hotfixes slipstreamed or integrated or nLited or RyanVM-ed.)
  12. ok we understand. better give priorities to more important matters. i'm still figuring out how to automatically pick up the correct burner. Perhaps, some, like me, have two writers in their computers so it complicates that part.. but if a CD/DVD+/-RW has been HFSLIPped before, we could easily locate what drive it is in. But if it's a blank CD/DVD, then it would be quite difficult.. right now, from what I tested that works, the simplest solution is specify it in HFANSWER.INI
  13. For the sake of testing, I tried incorporating the attached batch file. I placed it after :MAKEISO routine and is also called after :MAKEISO is called... It works! on mine, at least what do you think of this? burniso.cmd
  14. Just checked.. CreateCD doesn't seem to burn CD/DVD images, though, I'm not sure. It seems to only burn directly from a folder with option to make it bootable by specifying a bootable CD image.. If CreateCD is incorporated, the MAKEISOFS would be skipped, and burn SOURCESS folder directly. But sometimes we need the ISO to test it on a virtual machine. Also, correct me please if I'm wrong, but CreateCD seems to be an outdated project. I would still prefer making the ISO through MAKEISOFS then burn it, that is using ImgBurn.. I also do not like to rely on the windows imapi service. These are all, of course, my personal preferences. The final decision on what to incorporate depends on TommyP.
  15. oh, ok. whichever would be the best option. as long as it could incorporate well with HFSLIP. but if dvdburn use the same windows service, we could still run into incompatibility problems with certain drives. might as well incorporate one that would be compatible with most, if not all, drives (like ImgBurn , though, CreateCD seems neat also)
  16. that would be better because that is console-base. but does it support most DVDRW+/- media (i had problem with the built-in Windows burner with regard to such and this guys mentioned something about it: cdburn problems with DVD)? what about compatibility with the latest firmware in new drives? BTW, ImgBurn is an active project and support the latest drives and media.
  17. I have long been using ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) to burn images (like the resulting ISO of HFSLIP). When HFSLIP is finished, I ran another batch file that calls ImgBurn to burn the ISO. I wonder if any other is also using this... As you can see from the attached screenshot, it supports command-line parameters to burn images directly to discs. Since HFSLIP provides for automatically creating the ISO by calling MAKEISOFS, I was wondering, again, if HFSLIP could also support a feature to call ImgBurn to directly burn the HFSLIPped ISO when it is finished. Another flag could be added in HFANSWER.INI to give user this option. Just a suggestion, though...
  18. SOURCE is the 'source files' SOURCESS is the resulting output. HFSLIP doesn't multitask, the PC user does. Also what do you think the script is doing? It is copying, extracting, compressing, moving, deleting, writing and reading files, running nested for loops, storing data in memory and possibly running installers. It does all this as multiple commands in quick succession, hence the name script. I would think it fool-hardy to run anything else on top of that and expect a flawlessly produced resultant SOURCESS directory or ISO file. Also what is the point of console output if people are not even looking at it? I am not, and have not, stated my opinion on the main topic of discussion in this thread, just the incorrect remarks used in order to try to make a point. I find that submitting factual data is the most effective way of attempting persuasion to learned readers. Sorry, I know the difference between SOURCE and SOURCESS, I'm just not sure anyone would recreate his source from scratch each time. If ever anyone does that, it's not part of total HFSLIP run time because the user prepares the SOURCE beforehand. Unless, someone will always put a pre-SP2 source (in WXP case) and let HFSLIP slipstream SP2 each time. I guess no one does that... Of course, HFSLIP doesn't multitask. What I was trying to say is that if ever the USER multitask, HFSLIP will not have a problem and like I said, it barely affects the total runtime of HFSLIP. And I never had a flawed SOURCESS because of me multitasking. (of course, 60810 is simply great!) But now that TommyP has rejected the idea, I guess an audible alert is a not a good suggestion after all. Anyway, I'll just put a string in my index finger whenever I'll run HFSLIP...
  19. Uhmm, what do you mean in point no 2? Isn't it that HFSLIP automatically delete SOURCESS folder each run, except of course when you specify HFCLEANUP? From: http://hfslip.org/howto.html "When running HFSLIP once more, be advised that your SOURCESS folder will be deleted immediately in order to create a new one." And I don't think HFSLIP will have a problem with multitasking. I tried running HFSLIP by itself and along other things (multitasking) and the difference in execution time is minimal. We all know that HFSLIP just slipstreams the newer files into a new source. If one is manually applying the hotfixes in a live Windows XP, then, I agree you should close other applications and not multitask. But I guess the length of HFSLIP execution time is not important. If HFSLIP finishes in 5 minutes, it's really great. But I just wish I will be alerted somehow If ever I'm doing other things cause I still would not stare at the computer monitor for 5 minutes. Is an audible alert really that bad of an idea?
  20. Upon which data did you base that? When you've finished with whatever else you feel like doing, whilst HFSLIP is running, there will be a cmd Window indicating that it has finished. The script will only run for a period of around 6½ - 15minutes. If you aren't capable of remembering what else you were doing in the last quarter of a hour… Maybe just a wild guess. I multitask. I have several windows open most of the time. I use a KVM switch to work between my production computer and test computer (which I use to connect to the internet). But I don't think I'm the only one who multitask, at least. Or am I the only one who reads a magazine while HFSLIP is running? Besides, the CMD window is not always on top of the screen. And HFSLIP runs for about 25 minutes in my machine withe ISO generation turned on. And most of the time HFSLIP is finished for several minutes already before I remember that I did executed it... well, maybe it's just me. I need to upgrade my brain to duo, or quad perhaps.
  21. How about a short music when HFSLIP is finished to get attention. This is specially useful when we work with multiple windows or even multiple computers (or KVMs). Most of us do other things and leave HFSLIP while it's doing it's job. So it would be helpful if it would alert us somehow that it's finished. How about playing a small music file, MP3 or WAV, using a command-line program like MPLAYER with both mplayer and the small music file in HFTOOLS? A simple set of beeps using ECHO ^G might not suffice if we become too busy or engrossed in what we are doing but will still be a good addition if the music file option is too much...
