  1. This unfies KDE and Gnome. Why is this being posted in the "Old 9x OS" sub forum?
  2. I assume DT A has network shares...correct? Can you browse the machine by using an IP instead of a machine name?
  3. It doesn't matter. This SIF is useless to most people anyway. It uses UK regional settings and a hard coded "F:" that not everyone has. This was created by the WINNT.SIF wizard that comes with every copy of Windows XP and 2000 as evidenced by the ";setupmgr" tag at the beginning.

    WMF patches

I hope to see many, many more patches for Vista while it is in beta. Why? The more stuff they find and fix now means there are fewer vulnerabilites and bugs when the software is RTM.
  5. In experienced users call software features "bloat", experienced users call them "features." You're going to get WinCal, Defender, IE 7, WMP 11, Media Center, etc, etc. Of course it is going to be a bigger install. Most complete Linux distributions span several CDs and OS X is on DVDs now.
  6. I asked because there is no "MSNDA" website. You mean "MSDN" or MicroSoft Developer Network. Also, if you downloaded the ISO from MSDN you would end up with a plain ISO file. There are no parts that get merged together. No WinRAR is necessary. Nice try though.
  7. Heh, did you really download this from MSDN?
  8. It doesn't "suck" it is just different. Explorer draws more columns as you stretch the window. Does it matter if we read left-to-right if we're reading columns which are top-to-bottom?
  9. Yes it was your mistake. Look below - that's list view in Vista (with crappy JPG compression because I only have MS Paint installed on my Vista partition). It took a total of two clicks to switch from detail view to list view. I can't believe that a person would "hate" something that is A.) not complete and B.) only use it for a total of 30 minutes.
  10. M.S.F.N. = Microsoft Software Forum Network Why do the people of this site have such an anti-Vista attitude? To all the haters, there's a site you might want to read, Slashdot. Vista WILL NOT require 2 GB of RAM. @Morocco, the folder views in Vista are many times more customizable than any previous Windows operating system. You can scale Explorer icons to literally any size you want. In build 5270 you have four choices for desktop icon size. In Xp you only have two. Just because you haven't found these things doesn't mean they're not there. It is an entirely new OS, after all.
  11. Those are the old reg hacks for build 4074. WTF are you on? You can't get Flip3D without DWM. I don't think DX9 software emulation will get you Flip3D, even with glass running.
  12. It is an avatar of a lady's hand on a mouse. Nothing risque' about that.... However, those who think they see something else and have to take a second glance, are naughtier than I for thinking about it!!! Pink hand, pink mouse, pink mouse pad...what was I supposed to think it was?!? Ok, now I see the mouse, but just barely.
  13. XPize is for XP , I dont think such an app would be needed for the final vista and no , no one is gonna make an xpize for vista so soon. All i wanted to know was which are those resources which have been picked up from previous versions. And we could do with some screenshots of them. The latest build at the time of this writing (5270) still has tons of old resources. The list would be a mile long.
  14. You can also create two virtual drives and installation will use one for the temporary files and the other as the install target. @SonarSubs: is your avatar really what I think it is????
  15. The UPnP security issues are largely overrated. If you host UPnP devices on your home network and are behind a firewall/router/nat you are fine. I wouldn't host a UPnP device on a DMZ machine or one with a static, public IP. UPnP was designed for the SOHO market, not corporate networks. How many people run an Oracle database at home? Don't believe Slashdot and the Inq.
  16. LOL Do you REALLY think that i'm trying to install vista without HDD space? I've got 600 Gigs of HDD, and PLENTY of free space and partitions! Also, try to read the post The reason my C: drive is only 10 MB, is because I dual boot from several partitions, and like one small partition (called system partition) to contain the boot loader and boot configuration (boot.ini) - The reason why this error is odd, is because my setup is the Microsoft recommended way! Obviously, Vista is not for you. Perhaps you should hang out at Slashdot and use Linux.
  17. The leaked 5259 was not the TAP build. It was an internal build that never should have left MS. There is another 5259 that was released to TAP.
  18. Build 5259 is warez and was never designed for public usage. Hint: buy a DVD burner. $38.99
  19. RC = Release Candidate which means feature complete, but possibly containing bugs. Despite the fact that Beta 2 has been pushed back, rumor has is that we will see a December CTP that is near feature complete and the RTM (released to media) date has not been pushed back. In short, this is another sensational piece of "journalism" from the Inq. It means absolutely nothing to the end user and will not affect the quality of RTM.
  20. Geez. You need to mount warez on your warez0red OS? Contact Microsoft. File a bug report. You are a valid MS Beta Tester, right?
  21. According to the Longhorn newsgroups, there will not be a November CTP. Expect another interim build before the Christmas Holiday.
  22. Are you using a 3rd partty firewall, and if you are using a 3rd party firewall does it allow for the Ipv6 protocall, because Vista uses that instead of Ipv4 Register DNS only applies if your machine is in a domain. You can't register your machine to a public DNS server. Also, Vista uses IPv6 and v4. You can't use v6 exclusively at this time. I suppose the only workaround is to: ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ...everytime you drop the connection.
  23. Dude, you are a "compwiz" as well as "The |-|4><or" so why can't you figure it out? Seriously though...there's a .WIM image that you could split up but at this time it appears that setup doesn't understand partial WIM images. Only option is to buy a DVD burner. They're about $35 USD now. Oh, btw. Unless you're a MS Beta Tester and you download this off Connect or have an MSDN subscription, it is warez.
  24. Installing different graphics drivers in Longhorn is not recommended. You will definitely break DWM and possibly break the entire OS.
