    space in path?

Strange. I use this method to start installations from my own network shares ( including spaces in the path) Just how do you start the installation? From START -> RUN, or any other way? Kind Regards. Martin Andersen

    Classic login

But it does.... My "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" bitmap has certainly changed, to something more glossy and nice looking. Only thing that bothers me a bit is, that if I change the font size, the bitmap in the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen, and in the login screen doesn’t fit. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  4. Hi Clutch - sorry for the late reply, but I thought this treat was dead by now. If you have lost you RID Master, then the creation of objects is no longer possible, but it should be easily fixed. Do this: 1. Open Active Directory User And Computers 2. Right click [YOUR DOMAIN NAME.YOUR EXTENSION] and select "Operations Masters" 3. in the appearing window click on the RID pane in the top of the window, and then click the button "Change". This forces the RID role on the you remaining DC. If you have more then one DC left, you can chose where you want to move RID to of course... 4. Now wait about 20 minutes or so, and RID should be fully operational, and you should be able to create objects again. Hope this help. In general I think its a good idea to look up FISMO roles on MS technet to get an understanding of their importance, and get some guidelines on how to spread these roles across multiple domain controllers. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  5. I just want to comment, that I get this "problem" as well, on all of my unattended installations that I made out of the MSFN guide. This is not to say that I don’t like the guide, in fact I live with the white highlights and save time with the unattended CD's Kind Regards Martin Andersen
  6. Where the GC role is placed, is less important, as you can in fact make all of your DC's Global Catalog. This is not advised, as you will have a lot of unnecessary sync. in the background. However - you should have at least two DC's that has the role of GC. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  7. Hi Lus! Do this... 1. Open "Active Directory Sites and Services" 2. Expand sites -> Expand [Your name site] -> Expand [Your server name] -> Expand NTDS Settings 3. Right-click "NTDS Settings" and select "properties" from the appearing menu. 4. Put a check-mark in "Global Catalog" 5. Close everything, and wait about 15 min before trying to create an object. That’s it! Hope this helps. Kind Regards Martin Andersen
  8. I know you said you do not want a PDAwith a cell phone in it... BUT I can be rather useful due to the GPRS option that comes along with the cell phone. I have just been give the HP6515 Mobile messenger by my work, and it definitely covers all major areas in my opinion. GPS / GPRS / GSM Tri. / Bluetooth / Irda. I have since acquired a wireless network card for it, so now I can get -and stay connected almost everywhere I move. I can highly recommend it. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  9. Hello undeadsoldier. All RIS Images do have a .sif answering file where such parameters can be set. Sample Ristndrd.sif Answer File try fiddling with the two parameters i have made in bold in the above example. Often you can simply delete the default parameter line, and the setup will then completely ignore any changes that such line normally would represent. Hope this helps. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  10. Hi there -.-PhanTom-.- I guess you want to use NAT out of security reasons, but is it really necessary? Why don’t you just use "bridged networking" instead? VMWare comes with its own little DHCP functionality, so the host and the guest will still have different IP's, even though you physical network interface is set for static IP... Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  11. Hi Jeremy Thanks for the suggestion, but the fact that CD Bruner XP Pro IS freeware is of the essence here, since I have 100+ computers with this configuration... Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  12. Hi folks! I got a small problem with CdburnerXP Pro. When I log on to my computer as an administrator, I can use the program whiteout difficulties. But if I log on as a standard user - CdburnerXP Pro tells me that it cannot find a compatible CDR Drive. I tried giving "everyone" modify permissions to the program folder of CdburnerXP Pro but to no avail. I guess I need to modify part of the registry’s ACL, but I don’t know which part... Any help will be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen

  15. Hello ctw4540 Are you sure you are using the right uplink port on your hub - to connect to your switch? Mostly it will be one specific port when it comes to hubs, and many times you will have to press or activate a physical switch on the box the enable the uplink. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  16. Hello Again. Switching to IDE is easy. 1. Edit you Virtual machine setting from the main VMW window 2. Remove you present virtual drive 3. Select the "Add" button, and click "Next" at the wizard welcome screen. 4. Select "Hard disk" 5. Create new virtual disk - click "Next" 6. Select "IDE (Recommended)" 7. The rest is just peace of cake... size etc. Hope this helps you out Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  17. Hi! I just tried it on my own VMWare Right at the beginning of the blue setup screen press "F6" to specify additional driver. Later when requested press "S" to specify SCSI drivers. If the floppy image is loaded in you VMW setup correctly, it will immediately show "VMWare SCSI" Press Enter, and you will now be able to partition and format you disc(s). If you are not presented with the above, it could be due to the automated installation process that runs when the CD is Unattended - I have personally seen that before. Try switching to IDE disc instead, or try to incorporate the VMWare SCSI driver in you ISO, so that it will load automatically. I f anyone is reading this, and have a suggestion how to do the last part, please post it here. Again - I DID make it work, so maybe jus try fiddling around with it some more... Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  18. Hi Windows XP cannot detect your VMWare SCSI disk, you will need to download the VMWare SCSI driver from VMWare homepage. If you choose to configure your Virtual machine with IDE, it will not be a problem. I know that this driver is available because its also an issue on the VMWare ESX server. Kind Regards. Marin Andersen EDIT: I foundt the location for you.. http://www.vmware.com/download/downloadscsi.html
  19. Hello Folks Thought I wanted to share this with you, in case you like me did not know os this little tool; called SubInAcl from MS Windows Resource Kit. It was recommended to me by Martin Zugec in an earlier post of mine, and I didn’t take much notice of it, until yesterday, where I really needed to give our "normal" users some special privileges... OK - the situation is like this: Students can log on to all classroom PC's with their own domain account, this amongst other thing allow them to print on the network printer in the classroom. BUT; they can also log on with a local machine account just called STUDENT. This permits them to browse internet etc. but NO PRINTING ( we are using quotas ) But sometimes they try it anyway, resulting in print job getting cued up on the local machine ( they never reach the print server ). This completely blocks printing for the next user on that machine, and since no users have Administrative privileges, they cannot empty the cue themselves. This generates a lot of helpdesk calls FIRST OF ALL I need to give the STUDENT account access to control the "SPOOLER" service. THEN I needed to give the STUTENT access to the %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS catalog, and allow them to delete its contents. FINALLY I don’t expect my users to just do these operations on their own, so there would have to be an icon on the desktop, that would do it for them. TWO STEPS: 1. Do this as the administrator SPOOL_SPASSER.CMD Yes - normally you could just use CACLS to give change the ACL of a directory, but the \PRINTERS dir. seems to have some special attributes, that makes it impossible with CACLS. So SubInACL steps in to the rescue! Also not how you can use SubInACL for granting permissions to the SPOOLER service... 2. Do this as the frustrated user who would like to empty the local print cue: PRINT_RESET.CMD I find, that I have to stop the printer service twice. Not that the service is not stopping the first time, but doing twice allows time for it to complete the shutdown before trying to delete the files ( which otherwise would be impossible due to the service still having them open ) SubInACL has a ton of other functions, and I admit that it takes some time getting used to the tool, but it is truly powerful and a timesaver. Hope you found it interesting! Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  20. Just wanted to say, that I out of curiosity tried this program, and it does the job just beautifully – though a bit slow. Nice interface, and the latest version does not required install of extra codec’s. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  21. Looks nice indeed! But in this particular case I needed and out-of-the-box solution. But I will keep this tool in mind for its many other uses. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  22. Hey Zugec! How do you use that command? My XP installation isn’t responding properly to that line...? Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  23. Hello again folks! I know I should have gotten back to you on this a bit earlier, but anyways.. I DID solve the problem using Windows XP own command line tool. Silly I did not realize that with Windows XP comes a version of REGINI, which does the job with no problem. To answer chilifrei64: No – surprisingly there is no domain ( this is about to change though ) I have been at this new job for only 3 week, and part of my future project is to consolidate the infrastructure, and set up a central Directory service – in this case we will be using Novell Netware and ZEN. Yes – All workstations are running Win XP ( I had to do some running around at my first week here to clean out the remaining Win 9x & Win2K Now the reason for the hurried solution was that I needed a class of students to run a certain program, which required the students to have “read/write/change” permissions to tw0 registry keys (and all sub keys of those two) Along side this I needed to give permissions specific directories and files, and thus the solution got to look like this (two files) DanK.cmf: DANKOST.SCT: Thanks for your help anyway! Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
  24. Hello folks! I have a situation where I really need some sort of command line tool to edit permissions on existing registry keys. The reason for it having to be a command line tool, instead of just editing the registry manually, is because I have some 150 machines that needs this change done… I’ve been searching around for ways to do it with REGEDT32, but I cant seem to control ACL’s with that tool I found a tool for Win 2000 that actually seems like it could do the job; called REGINI, but I cannot get it to run on my Win XP machines. So here is what I need: I need to edit the ACL of two registry keys, allowing “everyone” FULL CONTROL. Right now they can only READ, so my normal users cannot edit the keys. I don’t want to give the normal users Administrative rights, as it too much of a risk in my situation. Please help if you know how to go about this. Kind Regards. Martin Andersen
