    New logo to use

Mine is 1280x1024 aswell on a 17" CRT. 60hz and about 5 years old. Argh, the whiteness!
  2. I'm experiencing some sort of glitch with this where it doesn't attach itself to the taskbar when refreshed. I'm not sure why, but it might have something to do with having nLited my comp? tClock2 and tClockLite don't do it though, so...did you make any changes to how it interfaces with explorer? With the previous version it didn't auto-refresh, so I could start it up, apply settings, then start it up again to see the results. Oh, and every time it refreshes the taskbar, the process becomes "dead" and stops doing stuff(except using 6mb memory). I managed to get about 10 of them before I noticed and killed all the dead ones.

    New logo to use

And if I remember right, it won't be fixed in IE7. I didn't like the white borders around the windows logo thingy, so I got rid of them.
  4. Yeah, I can see not using Azureus unless you need its features. I've been using uTorrent for a couple months now, and so far it's been great. Firefox is slow, and Opera is a higher quality, but I really wouldn't quote or link to that article. The author is....questionable. The article has been disproven on about 30 or 40 different sites, and the author spammed it under roughly 12 aliases on what appears to be hundreds of different forums and review sites. He's also generated quite a bit of negative feedback regarding some great programs, like ccleaner. I'd use one of these types of buttons instead. You attract more flies with sugar, which seems to be working for Spread Firefox. Edit: Tomcat, I read your posts in that thread, and you've gained some respect.
  5. So that anyone can use it, and it doesn't have to be updated over and over in the future. Edit: Why the NO AZUREUS icon, and link to Firefox Myths?

    HFSLIP your codecs

For 7z, zip it: 7z/Ultra/LZMA/64MB/273 (Solid), where 64MB is changed so the compression memory reflects just less than the amount of RAM you have or have free. For WinZip compatible, zip it: Zip/Normal/Deflate/32KB/32 To get ideal compression results with 7-Zip, you want your dictionary to be larger than the actual filesize. If you don't get ideal compression, the ending filesize will be about identical to RAR's.
  7. Try here. One of the stickies has what looks like over a hundred programs in it, all integratable. In nLite, they are integrated as "hotfixes" until a separate program integration section gets added in the future. For HFSLIP, I gather you just stick them in your own created HFUPACKS folder.

    HFSLIP your codecs

I don't understand those other links, but luckily the only thing currently not working for me is .wmv streaming within firefox. Just thought I'd mention that MediaCoder has a bunch of the required DLL files, and they all seem to work fine together. While you're there, rate it a 5. It seems to be incredibly fast, and the encode quality is ok too.
  9. I'm curious what's faster for Win2k: ntldr & NTDETECT.COM from WinXP, or Win2k3? I noticed extreme boot speed improvements from XP's files, so I'm wondering if I could get those again. Has anyone tried out Vista's?
  10. I just found this, and it looks really neat! I thought I should inform you of a bug though. http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/769/ If you launch folder windows in separate processes, re-launching explorer opens My Documents(if you have another folder opened). That means the UI never shows up again, instead showing you...your documents. I just closed all windows before refreshing until I figured that out. Time to play!
  11. OS....ALWAYS post your OS! Dependancies vary greatly from OS to OS, and service pack to service pack! I confirmed a while ago that protected storage is required to be on "Automatic" for Win2k Pro Sp4, but is fine disabled for XP. I have no idea what removing it on Win2k does, but having it disabled made wc3 stop responding to commands when I clicked the battle.net button. That makes me think a thread was looping over and over or something to prevent all other interface buttons from working(or wc3 from closing), though everything was still rendering. Edit: I'm a hypocrite that now added "Sp4" to my comments.
  12. HFSLIP "slipstreams" files - it unpacks + patches + repacks them, rather than "integrating" them, which is slow and patches during the install(and also has lots of bugs for me). /integrate seems to really degrades OS performance until you reboot, but that's not too much of a problem during windows install. As long as you don't use the HFSLIP FDV files(Win2k), then the result should be compatible with nLite.
  13. I just remove notepad with nLite and stick metapad(renamed) in two dirs. Where "Win2k Sp4" is the dir that contains your i386 dir. $$ actually "becomes" your windows directory during install.
  14. I'm highly disappointed someone feels 7-zip is crap. That developer does anything but make crap. 7-zipping is loads faster than RAR'ing and has smaller results, though uses more memory. I don't need an interface since interfaces are only used by newbies. Anyway, the dev also made a memory page optimizer for newer windows versions. Never turn down boosted performance.

    3Dmark06,

Ahh yes, while sleeping that thought had crossed my mind. I tested it out, and dropping that DLL in the 3Dmark06 dir seems to have done the trick. I'm probably still going to rebuild my ISO, since nLite has some new options now too, but now I know that I don't have to add any of that stuff with HFSLIP. 808 3Dmarks @ 3.0fps and 3.4fps.

    3Dmark06,

Hi, I use HFSLIP to slipstream DirectX into my Win2k. Recently 3Dmark06 came out, and I want to see if it's Win2k compatible. Many sites say it is, and many sites and the readme say it isn't(or at least don't mention it). The problem is the DirectX Installer has always given me error messages and doesn't do anything. I've also ran out of partitions to install onto, so was hoping to avoid testing anything if possible, since testing involves wiping a partition out. Anyway, 3Dmark06 requires the "bunch of extra useless files" in the Win2k Tut, so before I go and wipe my OS out, can anyone confirm that's _all_ it'll need? Also(unrelated), in the tutorial it states: Windows Genuine Annoyance/Advantage (optional) ... HF folder But it's a cab! Shouldn't it go in the cabs folder? If that's a typo, also correct it about 2 lines down. Thanks, -Kramy
  17. I replaced my Win2k's NTDETECT.COM and ntldr with XP Sp2 versions, and then used another harddrive(IDE - later removed) to pre-format the SATA drive into 64kb cluster size partitions. It now boots from 64kb clusters using a Silicon Image SATA 3112 Raid Controller. Nothing to do with RAID, but the problem is obviously RAID related and not totally cluster size related, or it also involves some other files aswell since those two work fine on my system.
  18. Lots of people online have been talking about the speed of the new Antivir 7.0beta. I haven't tried it, and know nothing else about it. If you want a relatively good, somewhat CPU cheap firewall...get Kerio. Kerio Personal Firewall has been discontinued, but many still use it. v4.22-911 is the latest(final), and is quite nice(trial 30 days, and then ad filtering and stuff is disabled..) If you want something even lighter at the price of features, google "Kerio 2.1.5", and use that. It's likely one of the lightest firewalls out there that actually has a GUI...though the interface is packaged in separate exe's if I remember right... and the interface somewhat reminds me of 98SE.
  19. Cluberti is so right. My uncle had a P2 400mhz with 384mb of memory until last year. It was able to load webpages and start MS Office quite fast...I was actually surprised. My mother has a laptop that's 1.6ghz. I borrowed it recently when my HD went down, and the measly 512mb of memory got filled up really fast, and then it took dozens of seconds to do anything. Now I'm back on my 2.1ghz with 1024mb of memory, and I barely ever run over 256mb. If you have the technical know-how, I'd recommend nLite'ing. Just try not to break anything for your friend's mother. I broke lots when I HFSLIP'd and nLited my box! Also, Win2k boots slow. Compared to both 98SE and XP, it's very slow. On the other hand, XP is doing s*** in the background and won't respond for oodles of minutes if you have antivirus and firewall on a 350mhz. I actually prefer Win2k, since with a few gpedit.msc tweaks you can have it load programs in the background while the MUP is initializing for 11 seconds...
  20. I have no idea, but I doubt many programs are optimized for 64bit or dual core... I play the game Warcraft III quite a bit, and I don't think it's very optimized for X2's. It has some glaring bugs with dual core, and my Athlon XP 2800+ w/ Win2k actually outperforms several people's X2 4400+'s running XP. Now granted, if I put XP on this rig the game runs 25% slower, but still!... 64bit processing is only better for newer stuff. The insane "boost" to performance just isn't there in the older stuff, and cheap $80 processors like mine can perform on the same level for single tasks, if you aren't playing the latest greatest game.
  21. Woo, finally fixed it! It appears that as long as the registry key was there, it was not updating the key for policy changes. I find that odd...you change a policy, you expect the registry key to be updated. Anyway....process: 1) Deleted all "Windows Installer" registry keys at the policy locations HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft 2) Set all "Windows Installer" policies to Not configured 3) Rebooted, then checked to make sure all policies were applied(or rather not applied). I'm guessing something broke with HFSLIP, since it appears "Enabled -> ON", "Enabled -> Managed", "Enabled -> OFF", and "Disabled" all count as Windows Installer Disabled. Thanks for the help!
  22. How long ago did you do this? I know with my router it takes it several hours to update what it shows me. I would assume win2k3 wouldn't be so slow though... Do you know what the DHCP lease time is? When the lease to the IP is up, perhaps the subnet/IP will automatically update correctly?
  23. This might be the time to enter the world of linux and build your own Gentoo DHCP server for free... I know someone that said they were going to try it. If you want I can ask them for links to handbooks and stuff.
  24. I don't understand the output totally. Perhaps someone else understands it better? I posted in the nLite section aswell. Hey...what's the 'DisableMSI' key set to on your system?(assuming you can install on your system) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer Regmon702_MSI.zip
  25. Yes, I've played around with all of those. Enabled: "Disable Windows Installer: Never" Then rebooted, and it still doesn't work.
