For me the benefits are too great. Sometimes I forget where I stuck a file, but I can find it instantly by remembering its name; I mean, you can't remember where everything goes if you have hundreds of thousands of them. E:\Download Me 1419 Files, 428 Folders, 11.5gb D:\Other Software 41211 Files, 1855 Folders, 5.22gb D:\Programming Software 16920 Files, 1751 Folders, 694mb Ahh...crazy crazy filing habits. I actually have quite a detailed folder hierarchy, which explains their count.

I don't recommend stuff that requires IE. Every version is (completely?) stable on Windows 2000, and every version is buggy on Win9x. The newest betanews betas are months and months newer, but I can't find many earth-shattering differences really. They also require a beta to already be installed, and then unzip over it. Installer: http://www.uku.fi/~jmhuttun/files/locate30beta.exe What I like about it is it can find a file, out of hundreds of thousands on my computer, the instant I press the enter key. If you point it to a dir, you can tell it to look for text inside the files. Oh, and it finds hidden & system files unlike the built-in search. Another nice thing about it is that aside from loading the exe, it reads about 50 bytes off the disk when starting up at boot. NO boot slowdown. Edit: Oh, yes, freeware.

Windows search is crap. Get Locate and gut that windows search like a fish!

    XP on 128mb CF?

As far as I know MicroWinX is a program you run after nLiting. That means you have to install a large windows first, then run its Gutter program to shrink windows down. Looks like you're going to have to make an image of it to get onto that card. Oh, and be sure to use FAT32 for the windows install, since most memory cards don't support NTFS. Memory cards are pretty cheap now. Maybe you can get a larger one? http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Category.asp?Category=17

    What does this mean?

Expand that file to .dll and open it in Resource Hacker. If you can't get at certain resources and some sort of "compressed file" message comes up, then it's probably corrupt and likely causing the problem.
  6. I've tried 3 switchless .net2.0 installers, and every single one of them worked. Then I tried the same ones on an XP disk, and not one of them worked. No idea why, but they just seem to work for my Win2k installs.

    What does this mean?

It's only natural that Windows XP has a Win2k.sys. I mean, why else would my Windows 2000 have a MSDOS.sys? Edit: Don't have XP, so can't help with that. Did you nLite anything or use HFCLEANUP?

VLC would likely play everything, but I don't like VLC or MPlayer; they lack the common shortcuts I'm used to(spacebar, alt+enter, etc.). Also, VLC has sound playing issues on my computer. ================================================= I just installed the pack(minus the XVid and AC3 filter), and it didn't let me play anything new. Oh well, I'll keep looking. Oh, and incase anyone is wondering, Xvid 1.2 has dual-core optimizations, while Xvid 1.1 is best for single-core. I recommend Koepi's Xvids if you want one.

I like it because ffdshow+Media Player Classic it gives me significantly higher video quality than players like MPlayer. In videos where MPlayer blocks up, ffdshow remains smooth, hardware accellerated, and pretty. I remember other people having different stories though on their own systems. Hey, I just noticed a new codec pack: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Codec...XP/1106578566/1 I'm considering installing it to see if it lets me play any of the unworking vids. What do you think the chances are?

I don't know, ffdshow does more with less. Seems pretty ISO-reducer style to me. B) If something works right and is more efficient...use it!
  11. Ahh, fair enough. The reg files don't stick the .icl files where I want them, and don't adapt to changing folder names.F:\Win2k D:\Programs and Apps XPize is not yet Win2k compatible, so it's a moot point anyway.

ffdshow plays stuff properly though. GSpot reports those above mentioned 3 compatible codecs. Two are identical to eachother. 4CC: XVID StreamType: OpenDML AVI, n/a, n/a
  13. No custom board layout, but I do use the old system. After they "upgraded" the layouts and reduced the number of posts per page, I flipped it back up to 30/page, and turned on the old display method. MSFN has flakey connections to me - half the time pages don't load(their server forgets to send data ), so I try to get as much stuff going as possible. Often I have to reload links several times to get it to send data. Funny part though is my bandwidth usage rarely ever passes 10% when loading MSFN pages, and I can load other sites at the same time no problem. Ahh well, it's related to MS. I bet they use Windows Server 2003 or something like that.

The asf starts playing for a half second and stops, then returns to the start where it remains stopped. GSpot reports DivX Decoder Filter, DivX Decoder Filter, Xvid MPEG-4 Video Decoder. Installing ffdshow didn't add a new one, so perhaps it "patched" one to work better? I don't know if you include them or not, but the 3ivX codecs are known for being POS that don't play anything properly. If you happened to include them, then it might explain the graphical distortions.
  15. I guess Gurgelmeyer's USP doesn't require the dirs to be made first. Just remove the whole line - the files slipstream properly on my system.

    HFSLIP your codecs

GSpot reports no codecs for the first two, and three crappy codecs for the last(ugh, conflicting DivX/XVid codecs!). I installed ffdshow, and it fixed the green-bar graphical glitches. Now only these files fail: Asf.asf mazegame2.swf H.264 (AVC).avi H.264-2.mov (Played, but was blank audio+video) Huffyuv.avi I263.avi Something new though - my Portable Firefox install with the latest Real/QT plugins crashes when it comes upon a movie. Apparently these codecs aren't as new as the latest QT/Real alternative installers?
  17. I have awesome timing. I find the solution to all your problems a mere hour after you release a new final.
  18. Problem now resolved. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=69809&st=600
  19. Try "MD SPEX\SP\I386" Oh, why must you torment me with your brutalizing against my love? You do not consider the fair USP5.x to be of quality equal to MS-SPx, but as I gaze upon her perfect hotfixes and dozens of core features, and then upon your poor bent, twisted, and warped slipstreaming code, I see more...far more, than you ever could. Oh let her frollick with the other SPs, in glory together within SOURCE-patching land! [/fdvinsanity] @ECHO OFF IF EXIST "SLIPSOURCE\" RD "SLIPSOURCE\" /S /Q MD SLIPSOURCE XCOPY SOURCE SLIPSOURCE /D /E /Q IF NOT EXIST "SPEX\SP\i386" MD SPEX\SP\i386 SET SPNAME= FOR /F "TOKENS=1 DELIMS=" %%i in ('DIR /B HF\W2KSP5*.EXE') DO SET SPNAME=%%i REN HF\%SPNAME% W2KSP.EXE START /WAIT HF\W2KSP.EXE /Q /X:SP\ START /WAIT SP\i386\update\update.exe -u -n -o -q -s:"%~dp0SLIPSOURCE\" REN HF\W2KSP.EXE %SPNAME% RMDIR /S /Q SP PAUSE
  20. I don't understand how it can't be an HFSLIP problem, since I have a totally fine older version of HFSLIP that outputs a working slipstreamed & nLitable SOURCESS every time. Well, assuming I move the exe back to HFSPACK before running it, that is.
  21. Ahh, he must have beat me to it then. He sent me multiple versions last night(60527a,60527b ), and I said I'd look into some error messages in the morning.
  22. More info here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...91entry512091 Something got broke somewhere along the line. I know that windows has built-in protections against malicious scripts. I once built a script that deleted random folders, and windows wouldn't let it execute(as an admin) on my system drive unless it had created the folders first. I'm guessing that some change in folder structure is the leading cause of the filecopy errors, but figuring out just what will be more of a challenge. My CD-copy missing files: faxdrv.dll hid.dll mf.sys parallel.sys parport.sys sonydcam.sys ktkrnlpa.exe mouhid.sys mouclass.sys And once in windows...the list goes on.
  23. Ok, here's the lastest I've got - these screenshots show the discrepancy. The first two are of my flawelessly working HFSLIP mod ver. The second 3 are of the latest test release. Notice the filesize differences...and that even stream.sys is missing from it. Also, a missing file on the first line - not sure what, and haven't checked if my perfectly working ver has that or not. I know that Tomcat rearranged a lot of slipstreaming code, and while poking around today I caught a few errors. Sadly, I didn't notice them when I originally duplicated them, so I had to fix them in my ver as well. Due to the particular order though, they had no effect in my version. It appears that "ELSE" is not a recognizable command unless it's on the same line as an IF. :HFSPACK4 ECHO SLIPSTREAMING SERVICE PACK... SET HFSLIPSVPACK=1 MD SPEX\i386 IF "%VERSION%"=="2000" ( IF EXIST HF\w2ksp5*.exe (CALL :UNPACK_2KUSP) ELSE IF EXIST HF\w2ksp4*.exe (CALL :UNPACK_2KSP4) ) IF "%VERSION%"=="XP" ( IF EXIST HF\*835935*.exe (CALL :UNPACK_XPSP2) ELSE IF EXIST HF\xpsp1a*.exe (CALL :UNPACK_XPSP1A) ELSE IF EXIST HF\xpsp1*.exe (CALL :UNPACK_XPSP1) ) IF "%VERSION%"=="2003" ( ECHO SLIPSTREAMING SERVICE PACK 1 INTO WINDOWS 2003. Now I need to test if my latest ISO will install, which I doubt it will with several hundred missing files. I'll report back on if it works or not.

    HFSLIP your codecs

None of 29960 files in my HFSLIP dir and subdirs contain the text "hfcodecs". Only two files contain "hfcodecs" in their name, and they are both .7z files in a downloads folder. A shocking thing happened today: I got absolutely 0 error messages. The only things I did differently were including mp64_wmp6cdcs.exe in my HF dir(which if I'm not mistaken, does nothing?), and using an older modified HFSLIP ver rather than the latest test releases. This was the first time I tried it on my old mod vers without the inf files. I get lots of errors with the new test releases, so perhaps it's unrelated, and there's two bugs here? The inf files aren't being handled properly on my system, and cause missing hfcodecs.cab error. The new test versions result in missing [insert one of 500 files here] error, which I'm currently resolving with Tomcat. Ok, so no INF files and the error message is gone...now lets get the rest of these to work. Here's the newest unworking list: I still need to try not removing Sound drivers with nLite.
  25. That is a lot of hotfixes to get MD5's on. I don't think I'll be volunteering, but if you use USP, then here's the latest ver's w2ksp51.exe's MD5 on my computer: 6A4E816C9E26FC44BB4B576DE06DA82D http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=72950&st=0 That's the exe, not the zip it comes in.
