How come it creates duplicate user accounts?
webmedic replied to kenneth11zz's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
well I have only seen this a few times and it happens when you dont delete your hard drive durring install. I delete my partitions and install fresh for testing right now but if you only delete your windows directory and do an install that way windows will delete your user accounts or move them out of the way like you see there and make new new ones from scratch. if you did something else I'm really baffled as to why you would get that but if you want a user setup durring install that works every time I use it try this thread. http://board.MSFN.org/index.php?showtopic=8632 -
ok yes I did. I have recieved a few different raid controler driver packs other the last few weeks and have tried to impliment the oines I have found. There have been a few motherboards that have not worked correctly though. I'm not sure ofr hte reason for this. Did you try the method posted in the other thread I showed on how to integrate it yourself? At any rate if you have or not if you could send the files you use to me I'll try to impliment them. bah at webmedic dot net is my email sorry if you have already sent them to me but I may not have them. I have a spoam filter that sometimes gets the good stuff also but gets rid of about 200 spam email a day from my inbox.

well it's good but it's been to long since i did that kind of math so I'm not sure I would be able to use it.

How to swap CDs without a cmd file?
webmedic replied to chon_'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
well no you see for now I have not added the sfc_os.dll to my install and unless you add that yes you need to remove the cd or else allot of things that are removed by the install will be replaced. I dont want those things replaced. After I get the sfc_os.dll thing going I'll make it work so that if you have a second cd it'll just find it and start copyng. how's that? but for now I want it to work this way for those who dont have a second cd. or dont ue the sfc_os.dll method. Is that fair? -
How to swap CDs without a cmd file?
webmedic replied to chon_'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I'm already working on it. Give me a few days to work out the bugs. But it's close to working now. I'm using an inf method but ran into a little problem -
I believe that even text mode is 32 bit if I remember correctly.

um well one good word about mcaffy they have a nice little progie that cleans your system of the latest veri snown as stinger. That is the one thing they do well but still you should not have to catch the virus in the first place. stinger is a single executable and will clean your system of the last 30 or so worst veri that you may normaly have that may do damage and hurt things.
-
well they do have a trial version but unless you find somebody to give you a key they are not crack friendly but it is good soft. Also to note it has 100% in the wild catch acciracy for virus's that it doesn't know about. It also does not false postive on other things like some cheating virus scanners. caugh caugh norton caugh caugh. and is liter on system resources. I would say it is one of the few things out there that is worth what you pay for.
-
not sure it may just be the number of systems I work on and that is not the norm for norton anything.
-
oh for the best well I'm not sure in the firewall arena really there are so many that are so close it 's really a joke. sygate and outpost are close to the best a few others comming in close second. I personaly choose outpost for it's extra features. For virus scanners. Nod32 is the best. Period. If you need something thats a big name then trend is a small amount better than the other big names. Trend also includes a firewall but I would much rather use outpost and nod32 for the flexability and speed of both of these apps. Dont even think about mcaffee it's way worse than norton. I have some contracts and do work for some corps and they had mcaffee I'm there all the time cleaning veri. They almost always have the latest virus. I mean it makes me money and all and at least I didn't make the decission but it would be better just not to have them in the first place(the virus). It would be nicer to get called in to work for other reasons like well whatever.

hm well I do just as much linux stuff as windows and well symantic has a way of buying out the little guys with good apps and turning them into pieces of garbage. (read here as ghost). I used to like that progie. To tell the truth vcom is no better they just bought out ontrack system suite which was majenix before that and they turned it into a piece of garbage also. I mean version 4 runs fine I buy version 5 and lots of things are broke and it runs just like a snail on my systems just like norton does. I have to evaluate these things for systems I sell. And i'm not into selling stuff just because people have heard of it. I dont need the headaches from all the garbage software out there.
-
not to mention all the negative side affects of using norton like running at a sails pace and having apps that hog your cpu. Seen to many problems with customers running norton to ever recomend it for anything but the trash can. And this does not take into account that thier software does not work as advertised for the virus scanner. Just recently came accross info about how they cheat in the fake virus scanner tests theat most the mags run. It's truly a pitty.
-
install something else besides norton.
-
I think i have explained it a little better here It also talks about how to make your own driver setup. I am also trying to collect all sets of working setups for those that may need it. http://board.MSFN.org/index.php?showtopic=8734

lol well rememebr this is the best way so that you dont accidentaly revert back to an unsecure version of a specific file. But yes I have noticed also that while installing the service packs it gets kinda slow. They hit about that 13 minute mark which is what is slowing things down for you.

INf install for graphic mode how to
webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
hm I know of no way to do that. It would be interesting though. -
I think i understand yes. If Iunderstand correctly you need to check in your bios and make sure that it is set to boot from your raid and not from your regular ide drives.

INf install for graphic mode how to
webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
lol youve done a few to many linux installs. I'm not sure if it could be done or not. You know I do have a few older gamed that are like majong and stuff that are not micrsoft games but really the soonest you would be able to call it would be durring cmdlines.txt and by that time the install is almost done or at least 2/3's the way done. -

INf install for graphic mode how to
webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
well for the inf file it is just putting in regitry entries so after the registry entry you see "the name you want displayed on the installer",0,"the command line to execute" in there I have given examples on how to do msi installer types also. For iss(install shield) installers I use cmd files to install them with wich seems ot work just fine. -
nope actually I am in the middle of a cleanup with other things in mind for it also hopefully the idea would be a complete toolbox app that you dont have to touch at all and it compiles everything for you. I did the log.txt for this so I could track what some other people are doing and they dont need to read it at all as it is more for me to see if they are messing things up. The idea with this is that if sp1 is there then it compiles it in. The hotfixes would go in thier directory and if there they will then also be compiled in. Same for raid controller stuff. Also to note that I want it setup so that any files that you would have a need to edit you can keep in one place and not have to go hunting for them the script would make sure they are were they belong. In the end the only thing you could really mess up is putting the wrong hotfixes in the wrong places. Also as a side note if you have dx9 or .net or whatever the idea would be to auto include these aslo. Now as for completeting this it is maybe 50% done with basicly the do_hotfixes.cmd finished and almost ready the other stuff is kind of small in comparison but i have already doen up the whole directory structure and am working on other little bits also. Now The only thing that the end user may have to do would be to rename the hotfixes by hand. I have the script turning them into 8.3 already but most of them have windowsxp at the very front of them so your would end up with one hotfix by the name of windowsx.exe and all the rest would be wiped out. I'm not sure of coletion time on this but maybe by the end of this week. Everything could downloaded in packs and added to the install tree or at least that is my idea.
-
yes that would be my next guess as I have never seen this with the raid drivers it simply will not see your raid controler if the drivers for it do not work. I'm guessing here but I if you have access to a program that can check the ram on your video card you may want to check that.

man that is a huge bunch of reg tweaks you guys are crazy hacking your reg like that. Well not so much I'm looking at my install for regular run of the mill normal user though also. As for 2.0 well hm let me think. Being able to load a winnt.sif file from the command prompt would be nice. so like winntsif.exe -f mywinnt.sif I alos like editing the hive directly it really is just a reg file anyway without an import location. But seeing as how it is not likely your current idea sounds great.
