  1. Hey guys I have a question regarding the tutorial the integration of hotfixes. I am doing it the "svpack.inf-way". In the guide found at http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/24/ it tells me to make my svpack.inf look like this: --------------------------------- ;Windows XP [Version] Signature="$Windows NT$" MajorVersion=5 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=2600 [setupData] CatalogSubDir="\i386\SVCPACK" [ProductCatalogsToInstall] [setupHotfixesToRun] KB133700.exe /l /o /l qchain.exe ---------------------------------- But before doing anything but slipstreaming the SP2 nLite tells me that my build is build 2180. Should i replace the build number in svpack.inf with my actual build no.? Best regards Wuhtzu
  2. Takeshi -> I like your argumentation and it sounds reasonable. I'll give it a shot and disable the svc32.exe to see if it helps. Thanks for the thinking
  3. Hey I am having a problem where ZoneAlarm Pro causes my WindowsXP to load with some sort of delay. Normally you see the Windows XP logo and text with a little loading bar, then your desktop background is shown for 1-2 seconds, the startup sound is played and your desktop (icons, processline ect.) is loaded. In my case i experience a 20-25seconds delay from the point where my desktop background is showned to the startup sound is played and icons are loaded ect. I have used MS Bootvis to analyze the startup/boot sequence with ZA installed and not installed, it confirms the delay: ZA not installed: http://www.wuhtzu.dk/random/bootvis_no_za.jpg (all apps load simultaneously around 21-22sec after startup) ZA installed: http://www.wuhtzu.dk/random/bootvis_za.jpg (explorer.exe and spoolsv.exe loads at 24sec and the rest after a 25sec delay) I using ZoneAlarm PRO 65.722.000 and WindowsXP Pro SP2. It is a completly new Windows installation I am testing and experiencing this on. The only thing installed before ZA is my nVidia chipset driver and nVidia GFX driver. I have uninstalled and installed ZA over and over again and the problem keeps occuring. I have olso tried some older versions of ZA, same problem and the reason why i choose to format and installed windows again was this problem starting to occure after running perfectly for months. Windows XP also tells me that zlclient.exe is not responding and needs to be ended when I am restarting or shutting down. Any ideas how to solve this problem? Best regards Wuhtzu
  4. Well it is possible, but I think my audio/sound-device is passed through correctly, because I can hear sounds in Vista, like music, error sounds ect... But if you think the "error" you speak of can occure even when the sound is working, then please tell me more about that Wuhtzu
  5. Hey guys I'm trying out Windows Vista Beta build 5308 in VM Workstation 5, with a WinXP hostmachine. I would like to try the Speech Recognition, but every time I click on for example Set Up Microfone or Set Up Speech Recognition I get the error: Run a DLL as an App has stopped working This screenshot shows the error: http://humlebo.com/random/run_dll_stopped_working.jpg When I try something else in the control panel, like Sound Devices and Sound Themes, Windows Defender asks me if i want to run this DLL as an app, so how come it doesn't work in the speech recognition part? Any help would be great Wuhtzu
  6. Yes I have noticed the function in Diskeeper, but as the Knowledge Database says it won't take effect untill the volume is reformatted. Noone else who have played around with these settings?
  7. Hey out there I have some questions regarding the master file table in the NT File System. First of all how to determine the usage of the Master File Table...? Diskeeper can do this, but it always displayes 99% usage even if the volume has just been created and only a few files copied to it. The size can be determined by both Diskeeper and O&O Defrag and the two values found match so I belive those -> but if you have a better way of getting the MFT size then please tell me. Next, how to enlarge the size of the MFT? I have read the MS article about the subject and it tells me to add a REG_DWORD value to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem called NtfsMftZoneReservation and the value can hold the numbers 1-4 (1= 12%, 2=25%, 3=37% and 4=50%)... But the articles says this only applies to • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Developer Edition • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Standard Edition What about XP ? Which volume will the setting apply to? Will the setting apply to all volumes, the system volume or what? In the KB Article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q227350/ it reads: "Use this information along with the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base to adjust the NtfsMftZoneReservation value, back up and reformat the volume to create a contiguous MFT using the higher zone reservation space, and then perform a full volume restore: 174619 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/174619/EN-US/) How NTFS Reserves Space for its Master File Table (MFT) " How shall i reformat the system partition (on which windows is installed) to creat this contiguous MFT? I normally uses C: for windows, should i then install windows to D: and change the MFT size, then reformat C: and then install windos to C:? Hopefully someone know more of this subject than I do Wuhtzu -
  8. So i can copy all the fiels to same folder, as long as I keep the filenames intact?
  9. Hey I'm trying to prepare my drivers to be put in my $OEM$ folder. Most drivers are easy to prepare, because they only contain one .inf-file and then you just need to type the path to one directory. But for enstance, lests take my Audio-driver. When i look at the extracted driver-files, there is like 5 .inf-files and they are located in seperat subfolders. Then I thought that as long as I dont use the .exe files to install the folder-structure didn't matter. So I have thought of just copying all files form the entire driver package together in one folder, would that work? Wuhtzu
  10. Hey... I was a bit confused too, when I first red the Guide to RAID/SATA Drivers on unattended.msfn.org and couldnt figure out what to do. Then I came across a really good guide posted in the forum. I cant remember where to find the topic, so I cant give you a link to the topic, but i can attach my own copy of the guide; see the attachment below. Its a really good guide, especially for ppl who hasnt dealed seriusly with editing files. It explains in detail which lines to add to your txtsetup.sif I think after reading this guide you will be able to install your sata/raid drivers. BTW if you dont use your disc on multiply computers, then get your "own" sata/raid driver and skip the driver-package. Hope this helped a bit! 11. The space doesnt realy matter, because im using a DVD The only thing that bothers me is that i have to write down the path to at least 5 different directories if i keep all folders, because of the .inf-files. For me it wouldnt be a problem keeping all the files, if only all the .inf files were in same directory, do you know if i can just copy them into the same folder? As long as Im not installing using the .exe files the folder structure shouldnt matter, should it?
  12. If Bâshrat the Sneaky's driverpack is correct, the only files needed is: viagart.cat VIAGART.INF VIAGART.sys viamach.cat VIAMACH.INF VIAAGPS.reg VIAAGPV.reg But how to know which of those files are the correct, files with the names above exist in bot WinME folder, APGMe, APG, WinXP and Win2k?
  13. Hey out there! First of all, ive searched the forum best I could, but I could get my problem solved, so: I want to include my chipset-driver on my WinXP Pro cd, so it gets install along with the other drivers, gfx, lan ect. I have a ASUS K8V motherboard, which holds a VIA K8T800 Chipset -> therefore the driver Im using is: VIA Hyperion 4in1 v. 4.56. The extracted contest of that driverpackage can be seen on the link shown below, its a .zip-file. When unzipped all the contest of the driverpackage is there: http://wuhtzu.net/random/VIAHyperion4in1456v.zip The problem is that I am all lost about which files to put on the cd. Shall I copy all files from the driver package to my driver folder; $OEM$/$1/Drivers/001_chipset/VIAHyperion_4in1_v456, and then just link to every single .inf file in all those folders -> or is there some specific files/folders which needs to be included? So basicly: Which files in the driverpackage (link above or just refer to the VIA4in1 v. 4.56) shall be put on the cd and which shall not? Wuhtzu -
  14. I got it working I changed two things, the path oneless spoke about, i just couldnt see the difference between 000_378ata and 000_387ata So when i changed it to the right paths in [Unattended] OemPnPDriversPath="drivers\000_387ata" and 'mycp-dic'\$OEM$\$1\drivers\000_378ata\ Im not sure if the changes above would have solved the problem all by them selves, because i changed the following line in [sourceDisksFiles] and made a manual copy of ulsata.sys into the i386 directory: [sourceDisksFiles] ulsata.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [sourceDisksFiles] ulsata.sys = 1,,,,,,x_,4,1 Then it worked! B)
  15. Thank you oneless; it wasn't a typing/rush mistake, I have actually made the mistake you are pointing at. So it is corrected now and ill try to install again very soon. I'll post as soon as I've tryed to install. Another posible mistake Ive found, is this peace of code: [SourceDisksFiles] ulsata.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 Where is says 3_, it maybe should have been x_ or 1_. This is because that number tells the setup how many *.sys files are compressed into the i386 folder. Since Ive only compressed one file, ulsata.sys, it seems logical to use 1_, but if only one file is compressed you could as well just have copied the file in i386 manually, and then you are to use x_ So Ill try all 3 solutions and report back as soon as I know anything. Wuhtzu
  16. One missing peace of information; my TXTSETUP.OEM, which holds information about my driver. The txtsetup.oem can be found at the link shown below, as a .txt-file: TXTSETUP.OEM
  17. Hey guys! I've been trying to make a WinXP Pro cd-rom, which holds SP2, Hotfixes, MP10 and my SATA-drivers. I have sucessfully created a Windows XP Pro disc, with SP2, Hotfixes and MP10 -> that was no problem and it works perfectly. The problem is to make "integrate" the SATA-drivers to the XP-cd. I have used the RAID/SATA-driver Guide on MSFN and a guide from the topic: XP SP2 CD with Slipstreamed SATA/RAID Drivers. ------------------------------------------------------ First of all, some info: About my computer ect. I have a ASUS K8V Deluxe motherboard and 1xSamsung Spintpoint 160GB SATA. This means Im using this SATA-driver provided by ASUS: Promise SATA378 Driver V1.00.0.26. This driver is available to several operating systems and Im using the one for WinXP, which holds following files: ptipbm.dll ULSATA.CAT UlSata.inf ulsata.sys vssver.scc ------------------------------------------------------ This is how I have created my CD: The CD holds all the "normal/default" files on a WinXP Pro disc with MP10, SP2 and Hotfixes. I know these files works and the cd can be used to install WinXP sucessfully. Apart from this I have created a destributionfolder, $OEM$ in the root of my cd and into this folder I have copied the driver-files listed above, that makes the folder structure as following: 'mycp-dic'\$OEM$\$1\drivers\000_378ata\ Then Ive edited my WINNT.SIF file as I have red in the guide. This is my WINNT.SIF file: ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=yes OemPnPDriversPath="drivers\000_387ata" TargetPath=\WINDOWS FileSystem=* DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="xxxxXXXXXXXXXX" EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=105 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductKey=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX FullName="Jonas" OrgName="Humlebo" ComputerName=Wuhtzu [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 SystemLocale=00000409 UserLocale=00000406 InputLocale=0406:00000406 [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=humlebo [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes Then I have made a compressed copy of my ulsata.sys to the i386 folder, by using the following command: MAKECAB D:\UA_WinXP\WinXP_SP2_MP10_EN_SATA_CD\$OEM$\$1\drivers\000_378ata\ulsata.sys D:\UA_WinXP\WinXP_SP2_MP10_EN_SATA_CD\i386\controller.SY_ After this i made some changes in the TXTSETUP.SIF, the values I have added is listed below: [SourceDisksFiles] ulsata.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_3373="ulsata" [SCSI.Load] ulsata = ulsata.sys,4 [SCSI] ulsata = "WinXP Promise SATA378 (tm) IDE Controller" Both the TXTSETUP.SIF and the WINNT.SIF is located in the i386 folder in the root of the XP-disc. All this is made into an ISO-file using cdimagegui.exe and then burned using Nero Burning Rom 6. Now you are probably thinking; "whats the problem, it all sounds, if not great then okay". But the problem is, when I do boot up using this CD and the Windows install runs I get an error. The error appears when it tryies to load SCSI-drivers for then install, then it reports: The file ulsata.sys could not be found Why do I get that error? I can't find the mistake! After reading through all the code, it still seems like I have given the right paths to the drivers and added the right values.... So; sorry for the very long post but it needed to be precise, and have any of you got a suggestion for solving my problem? Wuhtzu
  18. Before you give it a try I need to correct my self, it like this: [Unattended] OemPreinstall=Yes UnattendSwitch=yes Not like I said before (the unattended=yes was wrong, no ed at the end) Make sure to do that correctly before you try By the way it is written here: http://unattended.msfn.org/intermediate/intro.htm Remember you can always find all the variables in the file ref.chm which came with your deployment tool Wuhtzu
  19. Not to be mean, but have yo remebered to set the right variables in the winnt.sif? [Unattended] OEMPreInstall=yes Unattendedswitch=yes The first variable OEMPreInstall must be set to yes if the install shall copy the files/folders in $OEM$ to the harddrive at first login... Did that solve your problem? Wuhtzu
  20. Well... I think thats a good explanation! But when you say that the F6 doesnt work, what do you mean? Because I can press F6 without a problem and select which driver i want to use, but it still makes the error....? Anyone else who have a suggestion?
  21. Hey out there! Im getting this really anoying error when i try to do my unattended windows install. Ive created a disc which hodls WinXP Pro UK, SP2 and hotfixes. With the first answerfile I created it worked great and installed perfectly. But then i decided to try some more, and then i added some more lines and the $OEM$ folder to the disc... The error im getting occurs when windows is copying files, here it says that it cant find the file vmscsi.sys. An screendump of the error can bee seen here: http://wuhtzu.net/random/vmware_installati...issing_file.JPG Im using VMware Workstation 5 to test the install. Because of that im using a SCSI driver, which I manually presses F6 to use. Everything worked perfectly untill i added some extra lines of code, the $OEM$ folder and Ad-Aware for testing the intall of an application. The answerfile im using is: ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=1 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS DriverSigningPolicy=ignore OemPreinstall=yes UnattendSwitch="yes" [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="sqrt2828427125" EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=105 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductKey=************************************** FullName="Jonas" OrgName="Humlebo" ComputerName=Testmachine [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=humlebo [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff=Yes CustomDefaultThemeFile="%systemdrive%\windows\resources\themes\fetlock_silver_theme.theme" [WindowsFirewall] Profiles = WindowsFirewall.TurnOffFirewall [WindowsFirewall.TurnOffFirewall] Mode = 0 [Components] msmsgs=off msnexplr=off zonegames=off OEAccess=off IEAccess=off Msnexplr=off [GuiRunOnce] %systemdrive%\windows\resources\install\apps_install.cmd The new lines of code added since the install worked is: [Unattended] DriverSigningPolicy=ignore OemPreinstall=yes UnattendSwitch="yes" [GuiRunOnce] %systemdrive%\windows\resources\install\apps_install.cmd Anyone who could think of an idea to solve the problem? Wuhtzu
  22. Hey I know you've said that you want to /integrate them, but if it causes you that many trouble why dont you use the svpack.inf method? Its very easy and the files must use the same amount of space whether you use the first or the second method?
  23. Thanks.... I can see the idea about the shortcuts and the idea of extracting WinZIP after copying it to Program Files. An additional question: What happens to the folder copied to the root of the systemdrive after all the installations has completed? Is it deleted og does it just stay right where you left it?
  24. Hey... Im wondering what the folders $Docs$ $Progs$ are used for? Please refer to the image in the OEM-guide: So fare Ive found out that the files placed in $OEM$\$1\ will be copied to the root of the system-drive (i.e. C:\) and files placed in $OEM$\$$\ will be copied to the windows folder: But will files placed in $Docs$ and $Progs$ be copied to Documents and Settings and Program Files or what? And if so; what in the name of "pythagoras svedige sandaler" would people place there and make sure to have copied to Docs and Program Files? Wuhtzu
  25. Thank you.... just thought it would spare many beginners for countless hours trying to install their OS on their virtual machine
