Hey I am looking for a piece of software for partitioning my hard disk without have booted to a OS. It has to support NTFS and not only create the partitions, but also format them. So it needs to work of a bootable floppy, cd or flash drive. I need it to create and format partitions for Norton Ghost 14 to use. Do any of you know such an app? Best regards Wuhtzu

What I was thinking was: I have slipstreamed SP3 onto my Win XP CD and at some point in time (just after the release of SP3) no additional updates / hotfixes / patches were available because all previous released updates / hotfixes / patches were included in SP3. But now, 6 months later, additional updates have come out which is not included in SP3. So, does the Windows XP x86 2008-08-12 6836 windows-xp-x86-enu.ulz Update List contain all the updates released after SP3? Thanks Wuhtzu

Hey First of all - great utility, simply great! I was wondering if Windows XP x86 2008-08-12 6836 windows-xp-x86-enu.ulz was the Update List for Windows XP (x86) with SP3? It seems like the WinXP UL with the fewest updates / patches which seems reasonable since SP3 holds all previous updates / patches. Am I right? Best regards Wuhtzu

The native language of the operating system stays - the nLite description says so

Just wanted to give an update on the matter: I went ahead and removed all languages except for those under "Western Europe and United States" and did the installation just fine. Today, for the first time, I have noticed something which might be they way it is due to my language removal: Take a look at this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasabi The very fist line contains (or at least I think it does) some asian symbols which are being displayed as ? in my browser (FF 2.0.0.13). This is what I see: Can you guys see some asian symbols instead of the question marks?

So if I remove some asian language I'm unable to see symbols (characters) from that language on for example a webpage? So if I removed lets say danish and german I wouldn't be able to see Æ, Ø, Å (from danish) and Ö (from german)?

Hey I have often thought about removing all languages from my Windows XP Pro cd except for danish (my first language) and english (native language of the os, so can't be removed), but I don't know what the consequences are. Hey Martin H I knew about nLite as an alternative, but I didn't know about hfslip - I'll check it out. Can it handle more hotfixes than nLite? The reason why I'm doing it the svcpack.inf way is because I know exactly what is being done to my cd - which folders are added, which files are edited ect. so at a later point I can undo all the stuff if I want to (loose the original none updated version of my xp cd) For instance I don't want to slipstream SP3 onto a cd with SP2 and all the SP2 updates integrated. It's maybe a stupid reason, maybe you can undo with nLite and hfslip - I don't know. Or you could of course just keep your original copy of xp safe

===== Post Nº 1 ===== Hey I have updated my WinXP cd with hotfixes for years now using SVCPACK.INF method without problems, but this time I'm getting a Windows Installer popup during the Windows installation, more precisely at the "13 minutes left" stage where the hotfix installationen takes place. I red somewhere (http://discuss.joelonsoftware.com/default.asp?dotnet.12.588695.4) that the popup is do to a call to msiexec.exe with missing / wrong parameters. If that's true the installation of some of the hotfixes must make this call "on it's own" because I have done nothing but update my svcpack.inf file and added the hotfixes (8.3 naming) to /i386/svckpack. Unfortunately I'm updating my cd from scratch, so I can't compare to the my previously updated cd and workout which hotfix is causing the popup. So my question is: How do I easiest determine which update is causing the popup? Right now I'm counting the number of hotfixes being installed before the popup occours - I'm doing this by using the /u switch instead of /q switch so I get a progressbar windows for each hotfix being installed. But it's very difficult and annoying.... can you purpose a better way? Or of course if you know something else could be causing the "error" I would like to hear about that too Best regards Wuhtzu ===== Post Nº 2 ===== I ran all the hotfixes with the /v switch and produces a log file which might help - I'm trying to interpret it my self, but maybe someone in here is familiar with the log Here is the logfile: http://wuhtzu.dk/random/CabBuild.log Best regards Wuhtzu ===== Post Nº 3 ===== I found the the hotfixes / updates causing the popup through hard, boring work (an easier way turned up afterwards ) I basically ran all the hotfixes without any switches and installed them all "by hand" - clicking next, i agree, next, finish - and compared what I saw to my svcpack.inf file. It turned out that KB936181 and KB933579 caused the popups and that I had used the wrong switches with those two hotfixes They should be installed like this: KB933579.exe /q REBOOT=ReallySuppress /l*v c:windowsKB933579.log KB936181.exe /q REBOOT=ReallySuppress /l*v c:windowsKB933579.log Not with the "usual" /q /o /n /z switches. The above also includes logging... So doing the above spared me the popups, but no log files appear for the two updates, so either I properly did the logging part wrong. Anyway it doesn't look like i need them - they are for some msxml stuff which I don't use... And the smarter way was of course to look at the log files created by default in c:windowskbxxxxxx.log and determine which didn't show up and which contained errors - unfortunately I didn't know about those log files until my manual install hell was over. All my hotfixes (except from wmp11 and ie7) including Windows Installer 3.1 were added manually using the svcpack.inf method, so I thought this was the place to go since it has nothing to do with nLite really....

Hey all This evening I updated my Windows XP Professional (English) CD with Service Pack 2, hotfixes, Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7. I've done this many times except for the WMP11 and IE7 - previously I used to add WMP10 and IE6 was already an integrated part of XP. However this time I experienced something odd / weird. During the T-13 minute stage I had to click [OK] to a "Windows Installer v3.1"-popup two times and when Windows XP started for the first time it had Windows Classic theme instead of the normal default Windows XP theme. I used nLite to "integrate" IE7 using this update (listed under critical updates?) IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe (15MB). Then I used WMP11 Integrator (http://wud.jcarle.com/ProgramFiles.aspx - WINT11B60Setup.exe) to integrate MP11 using this update wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe (24MB). The hotfixes was added using the svcpack.inf method. Based on the guide: Here is my svcpack.inf file and list of files in the /I386/SVCPACK directory based on the guide from this site: SVCPACK Dir: http://wuhtzu.dk/random/unattended/svcpack...elist_guide.txt svcpack.inf: http://wuhtzu.dk/random/unattended/svcpack.inf_guide.txt In addition to that a svcpack.inf file and a /I386/SVCPACK directory was already created by nLite (adding IE7) and WMP11 Integrator (adding WMP11). Thanks for your suggestion cluberti I tried adding /DEBUG to my boot.ini, but the only thing I found out was that daemon tools does not work with kernel debugger enabled, because I haven't been able to trigger the error since.. Not even removing /DEBUG from boot.ini again triggered the error... I'll get back to this if once I get the error again

Hey What functionality do I loose if I use nLite to remove all languages except my own and english (Danish and English (United Kingdom)) and from the Windows XP cd?? Is it only the localized settings like currency, number format, time format, date format ect. or ? Best regards Wuhtzu

Hey all I have a problem where my computer unexpectedly shuts down and restarts - no windows shutdown screen, just sudden black screen and the computer starts to boot again - as if I turned of the PSU and started the computer again. The problem only occurs when I play the game Puzzle Quest - Challenge of the Warlords, but it seems like it is a more common problem cause by the TCP/IP stack in Windows XP. Event Viewer -> Systems reports the following: Event Type: Error Event Source: System Error Event Category: (102) Event ID: 1003 This error is described here by Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925922/en-us and they list the following as the cause: They suggest installing this hotfix WindowsXP-KB925922-x86-ENU.exe which you must manually request via a webform. I have installed that hotfix and it doesn't solve the problem. I don't know much about the whole "IPsec"-thing, but it seems to be the source of the problem. Hey I am looking for a software mixer for Windows. What I mean by software mixer is an application which can do the same job as a hardware mixer - take multiple inputs, mix them together / lay them on top of each other while controlling each input's volume independently. Confused? Take a look at this picture of a hardware mixer http://www.steve-lacey.com/misc/Podcasting/Mixer.jpg and read what I exactly want to do below What I want to do is this: Connect a microphone to the Mic/LineIn connector on my laptop, play some music with/on/in my media player (Winamp or something like that) and get those two "signals" outputted through my headphone connector so I can get both signals forwarded to the AUX connector on some stereo. What I need is some software which lets me do that.... make the microphone signal come out of my speakers live. Do you have any suggestions as to where I can find such software? Hey I would like to add an option / entry to the right click context menu. What I want is an option / entry which opens the file I right click on in a certain program. Here is an example. The editor UltraEdit-32 adds an option which just opens the file in the editor. It shows when I right click on any file type. Is it possible to create something similar for any given program? (of course I know the location of the programs executable and I know how to use the registry editor). Just for the record I use Windows XP SP2 EN. Any ideas, thoughts, links, methods ect. would be greatly appreciated Best regards Wuhtzu

Hmm... I just solved the problem by choosing to startup in Enable VGA Mode. I guess it was my GeForce 2 MX 400 which caused the trouble.

Hey I have a major startup issue with Windows Server 2003 Web Edition. When I start my computer it correctly displays the Microsoft Windows logo and the small loading / processing bar but after that it displays a totally black screen with no mouse pointer instead of a login screen. It's a totally new / fresh installation of Windows Server 2003 Web Edition - I haven't been able to start it up once and I have tried to reinstall it 3 times, same result each time. I can however start it up in "Safe mode" or "Safe mode with Networking" but since I haven't installed any software or drivers I can't "fix" anything when I startup in safe mode. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem? Best regards Wuhtzu

Hey I'm having problems finding a vista audio driver for my ASUS A8N SLi... When I am using WinXP I just install 6.86_nforce_win2kxp_international_whql.exe (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_win2k_6.86.html) and it will automatically install drivers for everything (except graphics) including the driver for the build in sound card. But when I download and install the Vista version of the driver: nforce4_amd_winvista32_15.00_english_whql.exe (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce4_amd_w...ta32_15.00.html) it does not install the audio driver which of course is do to the fact that the "package" does not contain a audio driver as you can see if you follow the link i provided... So my question must be: Where do I find the Vista audio driver for my ASUS A8N-SLI (the onboard one)?? My operating system is: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit Best regards Wuhtzu

My system is build on top of a ASUS A8N SLI motherboard with a AMD 64 3500+ cpu-> which chipset driver package should I use? #1: nForce4 Intel x16 #2: nForce4 SLI XE/Ultra Intel #3: nForce4 Series AMD #4: nForce4 SLI Intel My motherboard manual says the chipset is NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI, but I don't see any driver package matching that name. Based on the fact that I am using a AMD cpu i would choose #3, but based on my manual i would go for #2 or #4. Which one should i choose? Best Regards Wuhtzu

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has made a succesfull install of Vista RC1 on a NVRAID? My hardware config is as follows: AMD 3500+ ASUS A8N SLi 2x512Mb GeIL Value PC3200 2xSamsung Spinpoint 160Gb S-ATA (RAID0) GF7800GT But Vista RC1 doesn't seem to see my stripe... I have tryied loading the XP-raid/sata drivers, but it wont work (ofcourse not). Have anyone found some working drivers for the NVRAID that comes with nForce4 chipset og another way round?
