    You can use one of the hard disk utility programs like : partition table doctor, disktest ( Win version not DOS version) or I recommend a powerfull program named SCAVENGER the 1st 2 programs to repair the last one to recover the erased data

    Although You did not mention the OS you use, I'll suppose that it is Windows XP. You can repair the OS using its bootable CD. Boot using Win CD .. after loading the essential files, you will be asked : to install windows XP press Enter to repair Windows press R .............. Press Enter ... after a while ... the same form of quistion .... Now press R this will repair your OS ... and I hope it will solve your problem.

    If USB ports in the M/B are not speedy , You can use a PCI to USB 2 Card .
