  1. I would use VLC only for playing DVDs outside of my DVD-ROM's region; i.e., non-Region 1 DVDs. So, as a DVD player, VLC is buggy as hell, so I don't use it any more. Can MPC do this?
  2. I like WinRAR, but using the password is wonky. You select password while you are building the archive and give a password, but it does nothing. You have to select "encrypt files" to be able to password-protect the archive. Could be more clear. I don't think 7Zip has this option and I've never used a full version of WinZIP.
  3. I want to install it because, well, I have it, and I the 5.5 upgrade. Do you know how expensive this software is? Extremely. Sure, I could download it somewhere, but I don't want 7, it's too huge and demanding for my machine. I guess I'll try a DOS emulator.
  4. I don''t know if this is the right place, but I have a problem: I have an old version of Photoshop, 3.0.5, and would like to install it on Windows 2000, but the installer just hangs and I have to kill it. During the installation it wants to install into a folder called Win32Apps, which of course isn't in W2K. Basically, how can I install this old version of Photoshop in Windows 2000? Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? I thought installing even such an old version on W2K shouldn't be a problem.
  5. Win2K Pro: This is strange, so I thought I'd see if anyone can help. It's not serious, but: I used to have Norton Anti-Virus 2002. In the program, I selected "show tray icons" or whatever. It would appear once, then every time I booted up, no icon. I knew the program was running from the Task Manager. I have since un-installed Norton and installed Avast!. Same phenomenon. Tray icons the first few times I booted up, now nothing. The settings in Avast! are the same: "show tray icons" but they don't appear when Windows boots up. Strange. Why is this happening? I just want to be sure that my anti-virus program is running fine. Windows 2000 Professional, Dell Inspiron 3800 laptop, Celeron, 298 MB RAM.
  6. Sorry, all is better. I've just used NCAB instead of Felix' and I don't get the Unknown BurnPhase in Nero. I have Win2K, and it worked fine. I have Nero Ultra 6.6.0.6 and it was no problem; as I hoped, NCAB is backwardly compatible. The only thing was that I had to change "setupx.exe" in the .cmd file to "setup". Only one minor complaint: when running the custom installer, there's no "progress" window whatsoever, or any window to indicate that it's running. Is this normal? No biggie, as it's easy enough to check if it's installed, but, you know, for the dummies out there...
  7. Hey Neanderthal, I've used NCAB, installed fine and no, I don't get the "Unknown BurnPhase" in Nero. Felix, any thoughts? By the way, NCAB wouldn't let me even start without installing 7-zip, but I'm a newbie, so no prob.
  8. Thanks Neanderthal. I'll check out NCAB and give it a try. Do I really need WinRAR AND 7-zip, and can I run it on W2K? Just checking.
  9. Hi all, I've used Felix's Nero Custom Install Builder and built an installer with only Nero Burning Rom and Nero ToolKit from the Nero Ultra Edition 6.6.0.6 installer. Build worked fine, install fine. BUT, now, when I burn, I get "Unknown BurnPhase" in the progress window, when it should say "writing to disc". I used to have Nero Ultra Ed installed fully but didn't want all the extra crap, hence using Felix' custom builder. Why am I getting this message now? Please help! Other info: Win2K Pro, Lite-on external CD-RW drive...
  10. OK, now I DO have a problem. I've done the custom install of Nero only, along with Tool Kit. Now, during the burning process I get "Unknown BurnPhase" when it should be "writing to disc" or something, and when it finishes, it should say "files written" or whatever, but I get the same "Unknown Burnphase". But, the burn IS successful. Strange. This hadn't happened on the full installation. Did I leave out something in the custom install? I can't imagine. Any ideas??
  11. Hi, I'm a newbie here, please be patient with me I've found this page about Nero Custom Install Builder because I have 6.6.0.6 Ultra and hate all the extra crap. I just want Burning Rom. I've tried the Custom Install Builder, added the dash to Nero*.exe, and the MakeIt.cmd was working, was building the installer, then stopped and there's no file anymore in my Ahead folder. I don't get it. The file was .751 or something, then disappeared. Any ideas? Please help me. EDIT: Nevermind!! I'm a dumbass. I checked my WinRAR settings and it saved the archive....oh nevermind. No problems, worked like a charm! Awesome little program, Felix. THANK YOU!!
