  1. One of these was made around the time of the launching event. My only comment is that at least the old one made an attempt to look real; with this not only is it obvious that its just an image pasted over another image.. it's also hysterically out of proportion :rofl
  2. While I'm not to familiar with Mandrake (I'm a Debian, RedHat, or Linux from scratch person myself) I believe it includes wu-ftpd by default. It's enabled in xinetd, which SHOULD be in /etc/xinetd.d If wu-ftpd isnt installed, just install it with: rpm -Uvh /path/to/wu-ftpd*.rpm Then make sure xinetd is running, which it should be by default. I'm not sure if Mandrakes package has anonymous access enabled by default, it should. Where it puts the anonymous files I'm not too sure, but it's likely in /var/ftp Whew, that was difficult going so long without bad mouthing Mandrake. Post more info or a specific problem and I can help out more specifically
  3. On my Linux server: 3:27pm up 8 days, 13:16, 9 users, load average: 0.08, 0.10, 0.07 And my Linux firewall: 3:27pm up 33 days, 15:56, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 The record for that machine being 49 days. Reached it twice. This time I'll probably surpass it so long as I dont have to upgrade the kernel... Ahhh, Linux. Where only a kernel upgrade requires a reboot. Unlike Windows where a friggin windows media player patch requires a reboot.
  4. LMAO, I've been doing so much coding with PHP/MySQL the past few days it just slipped out :dance Now thats what you call a definate Freudian slip :spin
  5. In short, there is no way you can stop someone from doing as they wish with whatever is on the CD, period. However, this doesn't mean you can't protect the data, just use strong encryption. Check out PHP (http://www.phpi.com) or GPG (http://www.gnupg.org) That still doesn't stop someone from doing whatever with the data once it's been unencrypted. But that just isn't possible unless you control the actual hardware itself.
  6. 2 ways. [list:7a337a4d3f] [*:7a337a4d3f]Join an NT domain [*:7a337a4d3f]Control Panel->Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> Interactive Login: Do not require control+alt+delete. Change the option and you're done. [/list:u:7a337a4d3f] This is the default behavior of how XP acts when joining a domain. You're welcome.
  7. Stargate SG-1 kicks major a**. I was forced to miss a few episodes, particularly Season 2-3. But I wasn't out of luck, thanks to the good guy at http://www.sg1archive.com Enjoy.. just please be a showtime subscriber if you download them.. MGM has actually been okay with them archiving the episodes, which is definatly good to see.
  8. It is most likely it does have the luna interface in it; it just doesnt default to it. Even XP Professional defaults to the win2k style if you connect it to a domain. Businesses don't need pretty interfaces The real differance between them is it can run a number of differant servers (Active directory, DNS, etc), and has support for more than 2 processors (server can do 4, advanced server 8 I believe).
  9. No, I think he wants it like win2k where if he locks the workstation, or the password protected screensaver comes up, only he (or the administrator) may unlock it. To do this, get rid of the welcome screen. Doing that alone puts everything more like Win2k, from the shutdown/logoff menus, to other stuff. It's better if you have a clue, and is the ONLY method used when connected to a domain. Oh, and to turn off the welcome screen, goto control panel -> user accounts -> Change the way users log on or off. Uncheck use the welcome screen. There are other ways to turn it off as well, but this is the easiest.
  10. It depends on their deployment method, but likely, you were given a custom made CD with their VLK already entered. Check the deployment sections of the XP Professional site, it goes into thevarious methods of deployment.
  11. Well, originally made for Linux, goto http://free.top.bg/asfrecord/ (got to hide the links, ugh) Gotta love open source... It has a link to a version compiled for Windows, but real men use real operating systems And no, media player does not use temp files. And an ASX file itself is just a reference to the ASF file. (I also have to wonder your love for Intel, as it's in your sig and these are intel videos, do you work there or are you just easily fed into corporate marketing?)
  12. Yes, that's correct. It won't clear information on a remote computer. Basically, if the network administrator has a clue, there is not a whole lot you can do. It depends on the setup, and rather than write a 5 page article describing the various ways you could get around it, let me just point out one thing: If they know what they're doing, regardless how you get around it, they can know what your doing. However, lets say you tunnel it through an encrypted tunnel through something like ssh, they will not be able to know WHAT you're doing/transfering, but they can still know something is up. And if they have a clue, they can prevent you from doing that alltogether... I know I'm not making sense, but this is something that isn't easy to go over in a single paragraph, so I'll just leave it at: if it's not your connection or equipment, you really don't have any business trying to do sneaky stuff on it And without detailed info about the network configuration, I don't believe anyone can help (and unless your the network administrator, really knowing how the network is configured can be extremely difficult, again, if they have a clue. It's surprising how clueless most network administrators are. An MCSE or CNE does not mean you know how to run a good network, it just means you were able to pass a few tests )

    XP Updates

Ahhh. Yeah, I got that update. But it wasn't the update for Messenger 4.5. I wonder why they havnt put it up there, they always had messenger updates for win2k. Oh well.

    XP Updates

Did you say you had Windows Messenger available in Windows update AaronXP? I didn't think they had put that up there yet, and it's not available for me. Nor is it in the Windows Update Catalog. Is it just me or is the new Windows Messenger not available for d/l through windows update?
  15. Check out Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart Menu You can delete the shortcuts there. Take note: They can still execute the application. To prevent this, you use file permissions, which is done in the security tab of a file/folder.
  16. Okay, Sorry about the links, I dont post here much, In fact, my first time. Here's a simple way to just get rid of it: First, Turn off Norton, as it wont let you run it. then, run wnad.exe /quit Then you'll be allowed to delete it and what not, then remove it from running in the registry, its stored at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun and just delete the WNAD key. That's all it does to the registry, again, that I know of. Other options that wnad will take (for those interested): /log=on /log=off /use /install /quit It also will not show any popups for 72 hours after it's been installed, I guess to prevent you from realizing how you got it. I really don't think it's a trojan in any way. So I just want to make sure, If you have it, did you check out twistedhumor? If not, then I dont know. Just remember that it autoupdates itself, so this could all change. If it is in fact originating from that game, (which I felt cautious trying anyway, I dislike ActiveX, and now I remember why ) then twistedhumour is twisted indeed. Doubtful its a terrorist attack though, unless of course you consider evil money grubbing corporations terrorists [b:6e3674edd5]AHA! PROOF![/b:6e3674edd5][/size:6e3674edd5] Okay. Definate proof now. I just tried to reinstall the game to see if this was the cause. Sure enough, before installing it, I read the EULA. This is what it says: The Osama Software includes added software and technology which allows Lions Pride Enterprises, Inc. to provide advertising content. And: TWISTEDHUMOR.COM DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE OSAMA SOFTWARE, THE TWISTEDHUMOR.COM SERVERS, OR E-MAIL SENT FROM TWISTEDHUMOR.COM ARE FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. So there we have it, Then after accepting the EULA, sure enough, Norton popped up with it's warning. Now, the EULA says they aren't respnsible, but I'm sure the law says another, class action anybody? I'll leave that to the lawyers -- XxMaNsOnX
  17. I too have wnad.exe, and have studied it and have one single question to ask: Did the people who have this visit ht*p://www.twistedhumor.com and check out the 'Yo Mama Osama' game that's been posted there, and linked to by some major sites? I did, and I think thats where this came from. Here's why: I've gone through the binary, and after only looking at it for about 5 minutes, I've discovered some things. 1) It appears to *NOT* be a trojan, despite what norton says, but simple a program that launches popups, at an interval depending on how much your transfering. At least thats what it APPEARS to do, Im not an expert that works at SARC, but I am a programmer 2) It appears to popup an ad from: ht*p://www.twistedhumor.com/cgi-bin/redneck/redneck_show_popup.cgi?test_popup=1&company_name=SwapNutSoftware which appears to simply give a URL for it to connect to. 3) This has the ability to update its software, How I do not know yet 4) Other URL's that are hard coded into this binary: ht*p://www.rankyou.com/wnad/ ht*p://www.srv2cpt.com/ad/ 5) The name alone, wnAD, further makes me feel this is simply a VERY god awful and intrusive way of advertising. I visited that site, and killed Osama, and now examining it, I truly believe that is where this originated. Ah, I think it checks for updates from ht*p://www.rankyou.com/wnad/wnad.php and if theres a newer version, it uses ht*p://www.rankyou.com/wnad/wnad-update.exe, there is a wnad.exe there as well, but no wnad-update yet. Someone want to compare these results? Like I said, I dont work for SARC I will post more when I find out more.... -- XxMaNsOnX Do not post active links on the forums....Edited by Mod[/color:5660f4cede]
