  1. Put an Editbox and a button on the form, leave them named Edit1 and Button 1 respectively.

    In Button1.OnClick put the following:

    var
    msg:string;

    begin
    msg:=Edit1.text;
    StringReplace(msg, 'hai', 'hello', [rfReplaceAll]);
    showmessage(msg);
    end;

    Type

    "hai is the same as hai"

    into the editbox and click the button.

    Why does the resulting message read

    "hai is the same as hai"

    when it should read

    "hello is the same as hello"

    as the StringReplace should have replaced all "hai" with "hello"?

  2. Hey all, a friend asked me to fix a friends computer, they sent it via post.

    This friend of a freind wrote the letter in a stupidly-professional-formal-corporate style, I need help writing a responce ;

    This is the best ive gotten it so far:

    Hi Carol, the problem you discussed in your letter is because of two things, your computer only had 128mb of RAM in it, and had a large amount of this RAM used by the Hewlett Packard firmware for your computer. I have decided to go about remedying your problem by installing an additional 64mb of RAM, and also upgrading excluding your HP drivers.

    I have also installed Windows Server 2003 on your computer, as Adam explained that you had tried Windows XP, which was too slow. Server 2003 is for business computers, it is built to be fast, and reliable, whereas Windows XP was built for computers with large CPU’s and graphics cards and therefore has a lot of peripheral software.

    Windows Server 2003 should go faster than Windows 98 did on this computer, however it should not freeze like Windows 98 did while I was diagnosing the state of your computer.

    Your modem was of a model I am well aware of and have had problems with before, an Aztech HP standard modem, however this modem was not supported by Windows XP and HP never bothered to update the modem drivers because of its inefficiency, and the lack of reliability of the modem. I have upgraded your modem to a Progmatic 56k modem which should give you faster speeds and fewer disconnections. As I do not have your camera I cannot test the Kodak Easy-share software problem as much as I would have liked to be able to, however I have setup Kodak Easy-share, and it should be able to send photographs properly now.

    If you believe emails are still not getting through, please try accessing them via www.xtramail.co.nz, Xtra’s webmail site, Outlook Express simply downloads the emails from this website. Doing this will ensure the emails really are in your email account.

    I have not needed to change your email address, it is still at *heremail*.

    Kind Regards, Andrew

    Can anyone here help re-write it to sound as over-the-top-corporate as possible?

  3. in relations to http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=76054 what application do I need to access the files on the password protected harddrive? (Yeah, i set a password on the drive itself, not BIOS/BOOT), when i connect it to a computer normally it wont let me access my profile folders to get anything out of it (C:\Documents and settings\Administrator) it comes up with access denied, It hasnt asked for the password I set though, I urgently need data off that HDD, I hope someone here knows...

  4. My laptop doesn't boot

    Nothing at all happens when I press the power button except it shows the hazard light every time I either connect it to power, or insert the battery then push the power button, it just shows the hazard light for about 5 seconds, then it dissappears. Apart from the first time the power buttons pushed after its got power (battery or ac) nothing happens, any ideas? I'm thinking maybe this is an error code-type thing?

  5. My computer keeps stating that at least one service failed to start, view event viewer for more information (that's not exactly, but I can't remember it, and it's very common on 2003), does anyone know how to remove that message - I've viewed event viewer, it says theres a problem starting ASPI32, my CD-ROM drive is fine, and the only problem I can tell is that message... ASPI32 is not a Service (in Services)

  6. Yeah, but when i set it to a basic display without Windows Installer 3.1 installed it demands I install WI3.1 before it, then it says an answerfile could not be found or no patches were included in it, or something like that once I make it silently install WI3.1 before Office 2007B2.

    I've tried both of prathapml's methods, I really don't think there's a problem with how I am doing the Office 2007 install, can someone explain how it would be possible to install Windows Installer 3.1 then Office 2007 BETA 2, prefferably with experience?

  7. I've got an ancient PC to fix for a family freind >.< The problem is It won't boot from floppy, let me into the BIOS, or boot from CD drive. Is there any way to get a DOS prompt or such working?

    Below's a URL image to a bigger version of the inside of the PC.

    Something that looks like some sort of battery, I think it might be the CMOS one but I have no idea...

  8. Does anyone know how to make Office 2007 Beta 2 work in an unattended install? I know it's easy in Beta1TR, but B2 seems to need Windows Installer 3.1 installed to install, ive tried silent Install of WI, then silent install of O2k7, but that doesn't work, after reboot it does though, so Im guessing that's the problem?

    but it still comes up with the Automatic updates and that checking for internet connectivity thing, does anyone know how to remove these :unsure: It DOES NOT show the add user screen however.

  10. you could add a regtweak with the option "No paging file" set

    can't do at work, but if you have a pc, use regsnap and do the before scan, make change, run after scan and then compare them.

    it will show which key(s) were added/modified and then apply during install

    Thanks! Will try, otherwise ill use net_users info reg tweak, thanks :)

    EDIT: Wow, good app! the pagefile.sys file is set at

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PagingFiles

    Edit Value-> Remove pagefile.sys XX XX (everything in the value, DO NOT DELETE THE VALUE :D )
