  1. What does that line do ? I have been using the "OemPnPDriversPath" method to install the drivers since build 1 of my unattended DVD, and the drivers all install fine without my touching the inf and cab files... I have posted this info before, here... Are you really really sure that step is required ? I don't think this has anything to do w/ the svcpack.inf install method. The point here is that a normal install would copy those files to those folders....since you aren't running the install, you need to do it manually. Right?
  2. Somewhere I picked up this: set _USER=whatever net user %_USER% "" /add >nul net localgroup administrators "%_USER%" /add>nul %SystemRoot%\system32\reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v "DefaultUserName" /d "%_USER%" /f %SystemRoot%\system32\reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v "DefaultUserPassword" /d "" /f %SystemRoot%\system32\reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v "AutoAdminLogon" /d "1" /f
  3. So, in the case of doing a repair from CD, you don't have to worry about getting older versions of files right? It seems to me that would be the only time that would be a worry. Tell me if I'm wrong though.
  4. Once again I have to ask....why are you guys jumping through hoops to do these installs via svcpack.inf when a simple batch file works fine and IMHO is easier to apply? I don't do ISOs, so I can't comment on that. But as far as the bootable DVD, it's exactly like making a bootable CD. Pretty darned easy.
  5. Anybody figure this out? I've tried everything I can think of with no luck.
  6. After running MSBA, it comes up w/ a few issues. A couple are "version is greater than expected." I'm assuming I can ignore this? Also, a get a few that say it can't verify the existence of certain hotfixes (not that they are not there or anything....just can't veryify.) Should I be concerned? Thx.
  7. Your contributions are appreciated (as reflected in the above posts.) Just grow a little thicker skin and blow it off.
  8. Maybe some of the pinned threads can be combined into a new single FAQ type thread.
  9. @GreenMachine - thanks for answering my question. I understand now. @Numinous & Squallgreg - I have to agree, the GuiRunOnce method is easiest to deal with. The SVCPACK method almost fried my brain the first time I read it. Although I know understand it, I really prefer being able to drop new hotfixes in a folder and not have to worry about editing a text file.
  10. I eventually gave up since I don't think I know exactly what I'm doing. Has anybody been able to silently install and register NAV 2004?
  11. Ok, I didn't have this problem before but since I've added a user to the install, AOL now resets that users homepage to Netscape.com. Any ideas on how to avoid this?
  12. Maybe someone can explain the qchain.exe to me since I don't seem to get it. How does running it AFTER you've installed all your hotfixes keep them from conflicting?
  13. So all I need to run is DX9NTopk.exe (no /opk switch) correct? Can I delete the license folder and such as well?
  14. Ignore this, I think I get it now. Too late....confused.
  15. :/ First of all, I wasn't trying to criticize. I was just trying to clear up the way we all word/perceive the idea of a slipstream....I'm not sure there is a "real" definition, but this is how I perceive it. Secondly, you are right, I have not applied it. I have however read through it and I would have to say it seem to be as effecient as possible given what M$ has given us. It's not about whether I appreciate what you did or not, it's about always questioning if there's a better way......I think even you have done this in your endeavors to make the best installation for your needs. I honestly expected M$ to include a slipstream tool the way they did SP1...but I'm satisfied now that that is not the case. I do appreciate all the work you guys do. Thank you very much. You've done a great job and saved me a lot of time. Oh, is anyone gonna answer Sidespike's question?
  16. I think for the most part, we consider slipstreaming to be a one time step of applying changes to the original installation image (like we did w/ SP1.) Creating a process that replaces files and creates registry entries during EVERY install is not what I consider slipstreamed. I think most ppl would agree.
  17. Thank you so much for your response (yes, I do get e-mailed updates as well.) I wish I had it earlier (saved a headach and VERY long night,) but having it now really helps. I now know I can backup my documents and e-mail files to my install DVD when I burn and have them sitting there ready when I complete the install. BTW, don't know about the rest of you, but I'm gonna end up w/ 2 versions. One for me and a generic one for other systems; like my Dad whose HD just crashed and he lives in Albuquerque....I live in Dallas. And YES, he has his own licensed copies of the same software...I built his original system. It'll be nice to send him a DVD, give him basic instructions to install a DVD-Rom drive and his new HD, pop in the disk and an hour later...VOILA!
  18. Well, I gave it another shot and seem to have elimintated the problem....but I don't like the solution. Basically I had to delete the "My Documents" folder I copied over. It now copies all the app install files just fine. Any idea why this would be an issue? Is there a limit to the # of files or file size that can be copied over during the txt portion of the install?
  19. Somebody PLEASE help me with this!!! I've done everything I can think of to fix it. I burned to a DVD+R (instead of DVD+RW...thinking it was a bad disk,) I've reconfigured my system to put my DVD drive on the secondary IDE controller (since VPC says it's preferable,) the only other change I can think of is the addition of a default user, copying my favorites down, and copying all my personal documents into the "My Documents" folder. It's weird too....some of the applications copy over fine while several others don't...and it's always the same ones that don't. ANY ideas are appreciated.
  20. So this lets you set the pagefile size right? What about moving it to another HD?
  21. Thanks, but that doesn't help at all. Has anyone done an unattended w/ the new Steam client?
  22. I'm not sure if this is a problem with Virtual PC or not, but my installs have suddenly started screwing up. The same files come up as missing. On example is AIM. I get an error during install that it couldn't find the file. I go check the file location and instead of AIM_install.exe being there, I have a file that is 0kb and named $$$TEMP$$$.~~~. This happens to a couple of others as well. At first I thought it was a bad DVD burn so I reburned....no help. I even copied the file itself from the DVD to my desktop and initiated and install....works fine. So it's got to be an issue during the file copy stage. Any ideas? I don't want to install it on my PC and have a hosed to have to deal with.
