    nevermind, turns out windows 98 didn't like my dvd drive, swapped it for another one and it worked

    i'm trying to install windows 98 on a 2005-ish pc that came with winxp. it seems like there are some drivers for the network and audio on the mobo so i wanted to give it a try. but it seems like the installer cannot see my IDE DVD drive. i tried changing a bunch of settings in the bios but no luck. can anyone help?

    i know this is an extremely late comment, but i am the only one who is struggling to run java 7/8 even after the auxiliary updates? i still get the error about missing export in kernel32 dll:interlockedpopentrylist, can someone help me?
