Which version of CAA are you on? ... And on which browser?
The XPI files are actually hosted on a "storage-waterfox.netdna-ssl.com" domain name,

    3VPBaP7.jpg

    over HTTPS,

    https://storage-waterfox.netdna-ssl.com/amo/xul/239/239381/proxy_tool-1.19-fx+sm.xpi?origin=caa&action=download

, so your system does have to be able to access that domain; check your DNS, firewall, AV suite, content-blockers, etc.

Also, ATN still has v1.17 of Proxy Tool (not v1.19 that you seek, but you may still try it despite...):

    https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/firefox/addon/proxy-tool/versions/

    CAA=ca-archive-2.0.3, Browser=serpent v52.9.0-2020-11-06.

Thanks. I'ill try checking the things you suggested.

What's the big deal with skipping this commit anyway? Isn't New Moon a lot of selective commits from upstream anyways? Nobody's obligated to integrate all their commits.

Personally, I am a big fan of my New Moon and MailNews and am not ready for "Browser"!

Isn't the default in Android called "Browser"?

As for skipping commits, ask the Linux and BSD folks (people who know what they are doing) about the subject, rather than Tobin and that bunch.

Basically, under open source licenses you're not obligated to integrate commits or anything else you don't want in your work as long as you are in compliance with the license.

Don't want to sidetrack roytams topic too long with such general discussions, it's a far too long monster thread anyway. UserCSS and userscripts can be discussed endlessly, and are absolutely crucial for self-help in older browser engines.
Any chance that a mod can please SPLIT the last image related posts to a new topic? No idea about a new title... perhaps...
"image display probs and old browsers, howto workaround or tweak?"

Umm..why? Breaking it up serves no purpose other than to disrupt the train of thought about what's being discussed for the people who's invovled in it. If it was some that really didn't belong here, yeah but not for something like this. It's not worth the time and effort to bother with.

Hey guys just a question.  As it stands now in April 2020, is there a still a major compatibilitiy reason to run Serpent 55 as opposed to 52?  I run Windows 8 with the original Basilisk as my backup browser, because I need to use a web application that requires WebRTC?  If I were to use Serpent 55 instead, would there be better compatibility provided?  Is performance better?

Any downsides to Serpent 55 as it stands?

Pretty much the only one who can answer that question is you, since you need to use a specific web application that requires WebRTC. Run it and see how it behaves under Serpent 55.

Is anyone able to load weather.cod.edu?

I haven't been able to do so for several days in New Moon or Serpent (cancels as soon as I enter it in), yet it still works in a chromium browser on my smartphone. Even setting a Chrome 80/Win10 user agent doesn't change anything.

Seems to work ok with https://o.rths.ml/basilisk/basilisk52-g4.5.win32-git-20200229-6e6ffb8-uxp-ae8eb4d4c-xpmod.7z

PS. Just realized, I'm using  User Agent Switcher extension with it. Might want to use that to handle the user agent string.

I harbour some slight trepidation that, if due diligence is not paid here, suddenly my FTDD complete theme will cease working in a soon to be released Serpent 52.9.0 build...

Now you see the real reason these people are so hot and pushing for RT to join their "Branding Efforts"

So they can slip this kind of stuff in his and other people's work  without anyone really noticing untill it's nearly too late.

Nobody asked you to throw away your computer, cellphone, or any other device, but cool strawman, bud. If you and @ArcticFoxie want to use insecure versions of the very software that is updated on a regular basis, and offered to you free of charge in this very thread, then be my guest. Your irresponsibility is your business. By deliberately practicing terrible opsec, you're only harming yourself.

Is Firefox or similar browsers being updated for XP,NT,Vista or older versions of say Fedora Linux?

If they aren't, which they aren't, then what the hell are you talking about when you say updated versions?

Somehow I don't think you're talking about RT's software here.

Using an old browser chalk full of security holes does not make you bold, or enlightened. Frankly, it's asinine, but you're free to do whatever you'd like.

When using an unsupported operating system, the least you can do is mitigate the security risks that come with browsing the internet.

Which are really non-existent for the most part. The only people really affected by them are dorks like you who basically spread them around with *YOUR* useage of the internet.

The days of non -dorks playing the hardware/software upgradge-ratrace game people like you play is pretty much over.

People are not going to trash their investments of time and money in their computers and cellphones and other equipment just to appease people like you.

You really need to get a clue and a life.

The reality is that people are going to keep using their old computers, software ,cellphones and other devices untill they die of hardware failure, because there's no real reason for them not to do so.

Alas, plugins are still missing. It is sad. No Widevine CDM plugin, no OpenH264 plugin. Flash working.

I was wondering about that. Don't actually use Widevine for anything since I'm not into streaming video but was curious about it working.

In my view , you might be better to just have a slower but functioning Browser for FINANCIAL websites
that you use them. Because a FINANCIAL website is going to be more Security oriented in general.
@Mathwiz has commented about the strategy of using more than one RT Browser for different websites.

But , what I am suggesting it , is that RT should not be involved much in trying to figure out special problems
related to FINANCIAL institution (BANKS , etc) websites. Maybe the solution is to suggest that someone does
install the FIREFOX 52.9 ESR (Browser) and use that , no matter how slow that it might be.

I would invite @VistaLover and @Mathwiz to comment on the issue of RT's TIME and trying to figure out
about some Security situation for a FINANCIAL website. Whatever they might choose to comment , I would
defer to their viewpoints on it.

I think this RT's decision to make, not yours. Do us all a favor and *STOP* acting like things like this and what he does with *HIS* time is somehow something that falls to *YOU* and the crowd you hang out with to decide.

It's starting to get really annoying to see.

hard to tell, may refer to this: https://github.com/MoonchildProductions/UXP/issues/1392

but I don't see any wrong in the changes, maybe there are some tricks?

I can confirm this too. After installing Win32 https://o.rths.ml/basilisk/basilisk52-g4.5.win32-git-20200208-7ab9bf7-uxp-6c82d043a-xpmod.7z

If I go to add-ons and then click on  plug-ins I won't see the following listed:

    OpenH264 Video Codec

    Widevine Content Decryption Module

    Primetime Content Decryption Module

but if I revert back to Win32 https://o.rths.ml/basilisk/basilisk52-g4.5.win32-git-20200201-2d98a15-uxp-64c8c65cf-xpmod.7z

    I will see them listed.

:} I cannot make Serpent Basilisk.exe default browser because links and pages.HTMx will bypass -profile context while executing .EXE

    :} I also hate loaders.exe

Why Basilisk.exe cannot have option to save and first read settings from Basilisk.INI (as portable mode detection? something that MPC-HC does?)

Then use that.  End of your problem.

uBlock0-legacy 1.16.4.13 has just been released:

    https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/firefox-legacy-1.16.4.13

Once again, we have to thank Ukrainian developer @JustOff ( :thumbup ), who is part of the MCP devs team (though not inside Moonchild's immediate circle...):

    https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/commit/0f3c467

If you prefer to let his extension, uB0-updater, do the update for you, make sure it's in its latest version, 1.6.8 ;)

What is the difference between this and 1.17.4? Does  1.16.4.13 contain fixes and features that 1.17.4 doesn't?

Of course roytam1 will do what he wants, no one contradicts that. But he has stated that name choices don't really matter to him, therefore nothing wrong with making suggestions.

You're *NOT*  making suggestions. You're browbeating him over it. There's a difference. Do I need to spell out what it is?

I'm not interested in "popular." I'm quite used to being in the minority, you should know this by now.
Everyone here should know this, from our OS choices if nothing else.

This is roy's project, not a group project. Occasionally some members are able to help, but essentially without roy this project would cease to exist. So I'm interested in what HE thinks and decides. I don't care for how everyone is "pushing" him, and you are the one who started that by pointing out roy's ignoring of Tobin's message. roy has every right to ignore Tobin if he so chooses.

Agree with LoneCrusader. Branding is overrated and overblown. Silly names and graphics don't break or make a product, what matters if it's good or not to begin with.

All you have to do is look at the Linux "Desktop" Efforts. They had a damn good and winning one with Gnome 2. Then the "Branding Cowboys" came along and basically ruined the Gnome project  and the Linux "desktop" efforts with Gnome 3 and the same sort of Fisher-Price Icons,Graphics and Mindset that we're seeing being promoted here.

If Roy doesn't want to deal with this sort of garbage, he shouldn't have to. End of discussion.
