  1. Tommy: We started writing (WULover and I) to each other in private instead earlier today. The images are about 100-400 KB each. I didn't think 28K modems were a thing anymore in 2023, but I was probably wrong. :/ But yeah, it's not easy to please everyone.
  2. Yeah, I know. In my spare time I've been searching for Danish updates in the Wayback Machine for about four years now and not very much has been archived in the (da/dan/dk/da-DK) localization. Though I've found some other workarounds (old MSDN CD's and in some cases found the corresponding files as .cab files from the Windows Update server) it still gives me a headache - and here we're talking about the DOS based versions of Windows of course. I was also sure it did exist in Danish back then. The first Danish version of Windows was 3.0 and though the Server versions of Windows usually were only localized into Swedish (among the four Nordic languages) their website and WU have also worked in my native language. But yeah, that would be very kind of you. I'm a Danish teacher myself and have been contributing with a lot of translations for, the now abandoned project, Songbird (an iTunes clone) and for a very short time OpenOffice.org and Firefox as well. I stopped as I couldn't find the time for it anymore. If you're able to get the Danish version to work, and if we're not talking about kilometers of text strings, I would like to help you/all of us with the localization.
  3. Oh, that doesn't sound good. I know English and French are more common languages than Danish, but I hoped it wouldn't make any problems as it still is among those ~24 standard standalone localized versions of Windows (like Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish) without the need for any special language packs - if they even were a "thing" yet back then. Btw, after running Fiddler at the same time as Internet Explorer, IE crashed. I've uploaded two log files from Fiddler - the 2nd one may be the most relevant one. 1st time.txt 2nd time.txt
  4. Hi WULover. I've tried the updated version of the website (v3.windowsupdaterestored.com) and it still doesn't work properly ... at least here (on Windows 98 SE DK). I've tried to overwrite the wupdmgr.exe with the English one and to not do it as well (by using snapshots in VMware). Both times I've chosen to install ident.cab afterwards - and the website says the reason it doesn't work may be caused by a network issue or a broken (catalog) file. :-(
  5. I downloaded an old version of Fiddler through Wayback Machine and this was all I could figure out myself. I was not able to find the specific file types as requested though. :-)
  6. I am very excited that you guys got it working as I am trying to preserve a lot of localized updates myself. :-) However, I am stuck with a cursor showing an hourglass all the time when I am trying to search for updates. I have tried the same website in three different setups in VMware (Windows 95 OSR 2.5 US and DK - and Windows 98 SE DK). Am I missing some prerequisites or what? I have already installed IE 5.5 SP2 in Windows 95 and IE 6.0 SP1 in Windows 98.
  7. Hi :-) I am in the process of finishing an update package for Windows 95 in Danish for Archive.org. https://archive.org/details/windows95updates_da-dk I have found and tracked a lot of updates for the OS but I'm not able to find these two files in Danish versions (Year 2000 Update): http://download.microsoft.com/msdownload/w95/y2kupdate/x86/da/w95y2k.exe http://download.microsoft.com/msdownload/euro/95/da/w95euro.exe Did anyone in here download any of these files for archival purposes when they were still available online? I have tried asking people in Danish forums and I have been searching for the specific update CD in a Danish version from the summer of 1999 but with no luck. The US version of the disk doesn't work for non-English versions of Windows 95. The images below come from my update package at the current state. It would be nice to have these updates in here as well.
  8. Thanks for your reply, Destro. :-) I agree with you. Fortunately, for you guys, there are unofficial solutions for the non-localized versions of Windows. I was just curious because I was able to find the direct URL's for some of the localized updates in Danish. Unfortunately some of the updates from the era have been removed. About a month ago I succeeded downloading the following updates for Windows 98/Me from Microsoft's own servers: Windows 98 SE: 314147dan8.exe 323172dan8.exe 323255dan8.exe 329115dan8.exe 242975dan8.exe 243199dan8.exe 243450dan8.exe 249973dan8.exe 256015dan8.exe 260067dan8.exe 263044DAN8.exe 273017dan8.exe 273727dan8.exe 273991dan8.exe 311561dan8.exe Windows Me: 323172danM.exe 323255danM.exe 329115danM.exe 273017danm.exe 273727danM.exe 273991danM.exe 274548danM.exe 290700danm.exe 311311danM.exe 311561danm.exe 314757danM.exe 329048danM.exe I was just wondering if you (or someone in here) had downloaded/archived localized updates as well before the taking down of the old Windows Update website since you were able to figure out an URL for SP6 for Windows NT 4.0 in Danish.
  9. Thanks for the download url, Destro! Fortunately, someone in another forum was able to help me a few days ago with the installer ("SP6I386.exe") in Danish too. I have been spending some time lately collecting all of the old updates from Windows Update that I could find. I have found a lot searching the Internet for url's and also found this forum very useful. I am thinking of publishing the collection sometime for historical purposes. Most of the updates are almost officially gone by now. Do you know whether all the security updates and other system patches for Windows 95, NT, 98, 98SE and Me has been archived in Danish somewhere? I guess I have been able to track about half of the updates so far by finding deep links from Microsoft's servers and through Wayback Machine. But almost half of the links were dead.
  10. Hey, yesterday I've finally got a sealed copy of Windows NT 4.0 Workstation in Danish. It's the only version of Windows from the 1990 era that I've never tried out yet. Alongside the OEM disc there is also another disc in which SP4 is located. I've been searching all around the Internet for SP6a in Danish for compatibility reasons for about two weeks now. It's impossible to find at Archive.org or at the Wayback Machine. I've also been searching all open FTP's at http://www.mmnt.ru/. Ironically, all the localized versions of my neighbour countries are possible to find such as the Norwegian, Swedish, German and the English ones. I was wondering whether some of you guys have downloaded the files "SP6ALPHA.EXE" and "SP6I386.EXE" in Danish or maybe have a direct link for the files? It would be a big help! :-)
  11. Hi BigMuscle Thanks for a great app which makes Windows 8 look a lot better. :-) However there is one annoying bug which has been there since the Windows 8.0 release of this app. I am talking about the 'backlight' effect of the captions in the title bars. The backlight is always missing when you open Windows Explorer expect Control Panel but everywhere else. I don't know whether it has something to do with the ribbon in Windows Explorer in Windows 8 or not. If you are using a dark theme the captions of the inactive windows may be impossible to see. I hope there is a workaround for this. :-) Thank you in advance. Ricki
