  1. Sounds good to me. Maybe ask the mods for a little help there? Fully agreed.
  2. Hmm, I guess this is big enough that there's a decent chance that Microsoft knows about it. Even if they do, I seriously doubt that they care: big companies rarely concern themselves with fan/3rd party stuff like this. Rumor is that 8.1 could bring back aeroglass, which would render this obsolete, but afaik this project is made with a separate rending engine (custom one done in D3D?) or something, so there isn't much else Microsoft could do. I don't understand why people always assume that Microsoft goes around patching their code explicitly to disable things like this. Where do they get this idea? Also where did you hear that rumor? Is it some form of pure speculation about the rumors of the start button? Some article about Windows 8.1... Probably safe to assume it was pure speculation. I don't really remember. Sounds to me though that MS is trying to fix the obvious things with snapping and more colors. I don't see a start menu and areoglass being too far off. General rule of thumb: disregard anyone who gets banned. Especially if they come back with a dupe. So if I understand correctly, no more previews until the software is finished? I can live with that.
  3. As long as you have a Win 7 disk you should be fine just wiping everything and starting from scratch. I would suggest you try adding a start menu and glass 8 and give windows 8 more of a try though. It takes some getting used to, but it's basically Windows 7 plus extra (albeit not quite complete) features. Edit: Looks like you already got past what I said. I think you'll actually be better off doing partition 2; seems like it's set up to separate the system and personal files. Installing to partition 4 would leave partition 2 as-is, meaning you'll have to wipe it separately if you want the space. No big deal really though, if you use partition 4 you'll just have a bit less space, and all the files will be together (slightly easier to use, but slightly more risky).

  5. Also a good point, though I think you're underestimating just how stupid people can get. I wouldn't be surprised if some people just downloaded this and the GUI, and didn't read anything or care how it worked. Without the popups there'd probably be 10 more pages of related complaints. I think just having a popup at login or something would be better, but it's up to BM and I don't really mind. You're not alone, there's a debug version for you and some related info on previous pages. Maybe we should make a(n additional) FAQ or something haha
  6. The popup isn't to get you to buy it, it's to let you know that it's not finished, could be buggy, break things, etc. Honestly I don't see why there's a big fuss all of a sudden. I don't even think I saw bigmuscle mention whether he wanted to charge for it or not. Even if he did, that's his choice and he has done some amazing work. Should he provide an option to donate rather than forcing you to pay for it, I will probably contribute. Furthermore, this is software that windows 8 has desperately needed, and no one else has a good solution for it. I'm glad I was able to contribute as a tester, seeing as I didn't have the knowledge/time/motivation to do it myself. Version .7 was working just fine for me and I don't mind the popups. As for removing the popups/cracking or whatever, it's cool you were able to do it, but apparently it's not allowed here and bigmuscle doesn't want it... and that should really be the end of it. I look forward to future versions and the release bigmuscle, keep up the good work!
  7. oh ok then, I'll try installing again later. Not sure why the taskbar started working, maybe it needed a restart. Update: The effect seems to be applying for the most part, but it isn't very good. Here's a few screenshots, each one is with the shown settings applied already: Low opacity, med blur, non-native blur low opacity, med blur, native med opacity, high blur, native. Effect broken med opacity, med-high blur, non-native low opacity, low blur, non-native zero opacity, low blur, native My conclusions are that native/non-native blur doesn't make a difference, high levels cause the effect to stop working, and other values have little or no effect. There is slight transparency though.
  8. It looks like I'm now running the debug version, because the main taskbar is now transparent, but AGTweaker is still saying BETA 2 so I'm not sure. Only differences appear to be that the main taskbar is transparent, and a bit of shading behind the windows, though that could be my theme and I'm just noticing it. I tried with native and non-native blurring, still can't adjust anything. Only change when tweaking is that the entire effect sometimes goes away when I use higher values. Here's a screenshot for debugging/admiring: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/20887877/Jing/2013-04-18_1920.png Thank you for helping make it a reality! Oh and I have two monitors, though I'm pretty sure you can have unlimited taskbars as long as your computer can support enough displays.
  9. Forgot about the debug version, kinda skimmed over those posts. Downloading now, it's going quite slowly (my internet is 100mbps here, so it's probably the hosting site). I'll update this post with the results, thanks! Update: Looks like I'll need a restart to change versions. I have a backup running currently so I'll make a new post when I get it installed.
  10. Had you been using the Direct2D setting before? Have you tried adjusting the Intensity and other settings in the desktop personalization dialog? Perhaps you could post your debug.log before switching back? BigMuscle could possibly make use of the additional info about what's going wrong. -Noel I've been using D2D and D3D, I think I was using D3D right before changing though. Only difference when changing intensity is the effect goes back to the windows default when intensity is maximum. debug log: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20887877/debug.log (I've been using this software for a while. )

I haven't tried playing with the personalization settings, though I have it set to automatically match the color and it changes every 2 minutes with the background, so I think it would have done that already. Just tried it now and the only thing that happened is the effect was disabled when intensity was maximum. debug log: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20887877/debug.log
  12. I think I'm having the same issues as other people. Taskbar has the default semi-transparency that is default with windows and the window borders are pretty much fully transparent and not customizable. I am using SiB. Might go back to 0.7.
  13. I copied over the new files for 1.2.2 and glass BETA 2, but the GUI shows that I'm using BETA 1. Looks liek the GUI was upgraded successfully, but I see no difference .with the glass. Do I need to restart before it applies or...?
  14. Looks like my post got buried. Any word on this?
  15. Looks pretty darn good! I like the speed improvements it has over ClassicShell...CS keeps crashing Windows Explorer. xP There are a few features I would request be added if they aren't already: -Support for one button per taskbar (multiple monitor support) -Ability to move the menu around the screen (so I can replace it the taskbar and still have the menu show in the expected place) -Ability to toggle the menu with a shortcut (also so I can replace the taskbar and still use it) Thank you!
  16. Anyone know any good themes with rounded borders? I'm using the Snowy theme which is lovely, but I'd like to try a rounded one. It was looking like using an inactive color wasn't working, although after I tested a few combinations my computer went blank, and then it started working of course haha.
  17. Oh snap, this looks nice, thanks!
  18. I'm loving this so much thank you! Looks like it doesn't apply at all to multiple monitors: Is there a list of registry keys we can mess with?
