  1. Reading some of the comments on the Dvorak article is depressing. On the other hand I can understand why the irony detector of lots of people is malfunctioning. Metrotards write this stuff (Dvorak letter) for real.
  2. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22507935 According to market research firm IDC, shipments of Nokia smartphones fell from 11.9 million devices in the first three months of 2012 to 6.4 million units during the January-to-March period in 2013 - a 46% drop. Neowin: http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-phone-doubles-global-marketshare-but-still-far-behind Windows Phone doubles global marketshare, but still far behind OK, two different analysts (IDC on BBC versus Gardner on Neowin), but still... Of course, for the metrotards, the more positive news on Neowin are STILL BIASED! http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-phone-doubles-global-marketshare-but-still-far-behind#comment-2198367
  3. I had a good laugh here: Metrotard accuses Neowin of being biased against Windows 8! http://www.neowin.net/news/start-button-returning-in-windows-81-with-updated-charms-bar-insiders-claim#comment-2196873 Comedy for the ages.
  4. Channel9 has new motto: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse This actually is a place for you to talk. But read the fine print, we are watching you. Cutie! I think my "hate posts" may have something to do with this.
  5. Here are those crazy Windows 8 ads that got pulled by Microsoft, in full: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/WTF-
  6. Neowin: H8ters are dangerous. REALLY dangerous: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1148176-solution-to-get-rid-windows-8-haters/page__view__findpost__p__595656888´
  7. Hm, I see EvilD has edited his post to scale it back.
  8. Back to channel9: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/There-is-no-end-of-life-XP-problem/97ced5e3322447a9b208a1b800e49e7f I am officially a hater now. And there's nothing wrong with the NuMicrosoft course at all.
  9. The great Dottie pulls a new one: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1148176-solution-to-get-rid-windows-8-haters/page__view__findpost__p__595652478 Is HQ aware that he's spilling out company secrets?
  10. HAHAHAHAHAHA: http://www.neowin.net/news/two-windows-8-start-menu-apps-bring-in-8-million-total-downloads#comment-2192187 How is powering my PC off, not a "setting"? - DotMatrix Wow, the shill-school teaches some good stuff.
  11. Hey, that's a good photoshop!
  12. Wow, meltdown on Channel9: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/The-cat-is-out-of-the-bag?page=2 http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/There-is-no-end-of-life-XP-problem?page=2 (read page 3 too).
  13. It's hilarious how subdued the article on neowin regarding this is: http://www.neowin.net/news/tami-reller-windows-blue-will-respond-to-feedback-more-details-in-coming-weeks Microsoft: Windows Blue will respond to feedback, more details in coming weeks Compare that to the other news outlets responding to this story.
  14. Be careful, maybe it's just about the old news that the start button and boot to desktop come back. We know this already and that's far from fixing the Windows 8 disaster. The start button stills leads to the metro menu, so it's a very minor fix, if a fix at all. Now, if they would bring back the start menu back, that would be something different.
  15. Something interesting I noticed: web server survey Look at "Market share of active sites". Microsoft had a drop at April 2009 and continues dropping since then. From 38% in April 2009 to 11.08% now. Coincidentally, that drop happened right around when they have released ASP.NET MVC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASP.NET_MVC_Framework ("13 March 2009: ASP.NET MVC 1.0") I get the feeling that it's related. Sure, WebForms is still supported.. somewhat (just like Silverlight is!) But they p***ed some loyal webforms devs off back then, and that hit them apparently. Here you can see a webforms dev raging. Also, despite some problems, WebForms was a pretty unique technology, while ASP.NET MVC is the one millionth MVC framework. How is chasing the hipsters working out for you, Microsoft? Marketshare was climbing constantly before the MVC release, then, exactly at release, it just plumbed. After Ruby-On-Rails, Django etc. appeared, Microsoft apparently exploded with envy and had to p*** off their webforms devs, and now they are at their lowest marketshare in web servers since ever.
  16. Ah, I see now. OK, here goes -- The model in the Microsoft pic is wearing an orange t-shirt, while the Apple model is wearing a blue t-shirt. The Microsoft model's collar under the t-shirt matches her long sleeves, whereas the Apple model is wearing something with a dark collar under her t-shirt. The company logo on the Microsoft model's t-shirt is on the sleeve, while the company logo on the Apple model's t-shirt is on the chest. And a bonus one: The string on the Microsoft model's name tag is black, while the string on the Apple model's name tag is white. --JorgeA We have a winner! The key difference were company logo on the chest, company logo on the sleeve, and white string. (shirt color doesn't count since it's too obvious). The white string is important since that's a huge deal at Apple: http://www.oilchangestore.com/motor-oil/apple-in-ear-buds-in-black-do-they-exist/ So, ok, just as promised, here's the poor man's start menu: http://www.registryrecycler.com/blog/2013/04/must-know-windows-8-tips-and-tricks/ And as a result you get something like this!: Windows 8 is saved!
  17. Umm... how about The Microsoft pic shows drawings of products and boxes, whereas the Apple pic shows actual products and boxes. The background in the Microsoft pic is abstract and 2D, while the background in the Apple pic is a real-life, 3D setting. Kind of like their respective OS interfaces. The model in the Microsoft pic is wearing an orange t-shirt, while the Apple model is wearing a blue t-shirt. Not sure how much of a "key" difference that could be, but nothing else jumped out at me! --JorgeA No, I meant differences between the clothing and equipment of the "geniuses".
  18. New round of Spot-the-Difference, MS Edition: There are actually 3 key differences! (headset not included) Can you find them? I will tell the winner some leet Windows 8 trick how to emulate a poor-man's start menu.
  19. The first two Microsoft Store photos are from this event: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/money/56145264-79/microsoft-store-lake-salt.html.csp They had to bribe the hipsters with gifts, free food and tickets to come by. Something that Apple doesn't need to do.
  20. Given how they are p***ing off almost all their former customers, that segment is getting tiny.
  21. This rumor is not good news if true. That would be one enormous delay, absolutely huge. And if true. this will be yet another case of a horrendous management screwup, not getting a license in place, which pretty much mirrors several other massive screw-ups like the Metro naming fiasco and the EU browser ballot. This should be one interesting announcement coming up, especially if they decide not to say when it will actually be available for sale, because that will in turn feed the fire that they are being held back over the Blu-Ray thing. My God, NuMicrosoft can't even hire decent lawyers anymore. Incredible ineptness. NuMicrosoft would have been crushed in the 80s by Atari, Commodore and Digital Research. Does Ballmer have photos where Bill Gates and the board are involved in a human-sacrifice ritual? If not, why isn't he fired already?
  22. No Apple envy at all:
  23. So in his mind, ATMs, Kiosks and Movie Ticket dispensers are web-connected and showing up in browser marketshare data collection? He cannot understand this but what he has actually done here is demonstrate that there is a likely undercount for real-world XP usage The first part of the comment ( "12 year old operating system" ) is dripping with that patented Microsoft contempt for their customers stemming from their utter bewilderment that users aren't the patsies they expect and are not jumping into their crappy new walled garden. And oddly enough, this 12-year old meme seems only to be trotted out when it suits these propagandists. Well, don't be too hard on the Microsofties. As I've mentioned before, I had to lecture a softie, who worked on their server offerings, regarding what features Microsoft removed from the server products he himself worked on, and when what product was released: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/Windows-desktop-as-SaaS?page=2 Scroll down to the ending of the page, where the post with the youtube vids is. The "metro-effect" (idiocracy) is making the rounds in Redmond.
  24. News from Scroogled. They have changed direction, it's all about apps now. http://www.scroogled.com/ IRONY: http://bgr.com/2012/08/24/windows-8-privacy-microsoft-smartscreen/ Windows 8 sends Microsoft information about every program you install
  25. Looks like I am in good form today. http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/Windows-desktop-as-SaaS/8ca64324caee4219a5c1a1b30159d8f9
