  1. First of all, the direct link to the EXE file above works only if you go to this page first, because the server is set up to allow only local [from within the unattended.msfn.org web site] file downloads [.htaccess Apache server restrictions].Secondly, I can only speak about 98SE2ME [which I've created + maintain], about SP 2.0 you need to contact Gape. Gape's SP 2.0 RC1 forum is here. Third: I've been also reading the MSFN unattended XP/2003 guide, and do like it too, because is thoroughly researched and well done. But you need to understand this is a guide people are supposed to READ, not an executable [like 98SE2ME] people are supposed to RUN. If you want to read how to perform on your own [manually] all operations needed to replace all those files with the ones from ME into your 98SE OS [which took me almost 4 years of trial + error testing and about 2 months of batch installer testing at this forum to achieve], please read either: - the online "Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE" guide in HTML format: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#KRM9S - or the offline guide [READ1ST.HTM] included with 98SE2ME, and installed under Start -> Programs -> 98SE2ME -> "Killer Replacements ME to 98 SE Guide" shortcut. Reading the guide above is not necessary to install 98SE2ME, but before you install 98SE2ME you MUST read the READ1ST.TXT file to understand how it works, why it may not work in certain cases and how to make sure it works on your 98SE OS. I for 1 prefer TXT/HTML guides, IMO they are easier to "flip" thru than PDF files. And most importantly, a PDF, DOC, RTF, or CHM [html Help] guide would add significantly to the size of 98SE2ME.EXE, which will force dial-up users to wait even longer [~ 6 minutes currently] to d/l it. If you have the time and would like to convert TXT to PDF, here are a few [free(ware)] tools: http://www.gohtm.com/convert_pdf.asp http://www.sanface.com/txt2pdf.html Hope this helps.
  2. May I get a copy, please? Please click the E-mail link at this page. Many thanks in advance.
  3. Well, if you remember what you sent me last time thru email, it was Q290831 WinME patch. Many thanks, again.
  4. May I also get a copy of the Q242941 fix, please? Please click the E-mail link at this page. Many thanks in advance.
  5. May I get a copy, please? To send it: please go to this page and click E-mail link [attachments allowed]. Many thanks in advance. erpdude8: Got it. Many thanks.
  6. Microsoft Windows 98/98 SE System Date Error TIMEDATE.CPL (build 4.10.2006 for Win98/98 SP1 + build 4.10.2225 for Win98 SE) Fix:http://support.microsoft.com/?id=237493 Direct download [166 KB, English]: http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/CPatch/msupdate/.../237493usa8.exe Most 98SE fixes: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#98SE
  7. erpdude8: Please send me the Q290831 WinME patch. Many thanks in advance. Gape: Got the Q192425 patch. Many thanks. BTW: I compared SP 2.0 RC1 file from my site with the 1 from BetaNews, they are identical. And I don't get CRC errors on any. Must be somebody has an unreliable connection, which may drop packets.
  8. Thanks a lot for the good work.I've already added svrapi.dll to 98se2me. But rasapi32.dll [same as you said] returns that annoying UI dialog, I'm not fond of, so I won't include it. Please d/l the current 98SE2ME edition: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=37302 to install newer WinME svrapi.dll on your 98SE OS.
  9. 98SE2ME installs only 4 files that are also installed by SP 2.0 RC1 [but this may change in SP 2.0 final]:RPCRT4.DLL build 4.71.3336 VTCP.386 build 4.10.2223 REGSVR32.EXE build 5.00.2134.1 Dr Hoiby's fixed EXPLORER.EXE Please d/l current 98se2me edition: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=37302 and see READ1ST.TXT for complete details.
  10. No way. 98se2me doesn't have any files modded by Tihiy that might contain Russian chars. The only files modded by Tihiy included with 98se2me are msconfig.exe + regenv32.exe .
  11. No need. You can d/l the MS fix here [MS IE 5.5 SP2 Patch for Windows ME]:http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#BRO Then open it in PowerArchiver or WinZip: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#ZIP to extract the files.
  12. Gape:Could you please send me the Q192425 patch erpdude8 sent you? Please go to this page and click the E-mail link. Many thanks in advance.
  13. I have revised HHUPD.EXE to avoid "file not found" error on slower PCs.Here is the new batch file [HH.BAT]: @ECHO OFF VER | FIND.EXE/I "Windows">NUL IF ERRORLEVEL 1 GOTO NO! VER | FIND.EXE/I "Windows 95">NUL IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 1 GOTO NO! IF Windows_NT == %OS% GOTO NTX IF EXIST %windir%\INF\*.INF DIR/-P %windir%\INF\*.INF>NUL START/W RUNDLL32.EXE ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection HH.INF,DefaultInstall GOTO NO! :NTX IF EXIST %windir%\INF\*.INF DIR/-P %windir%\INF\*.INF>NUL START/W RUNDLL32.EXE ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection HH.INF,NTx :NO! CLS EXIT All necessary files: ADVPACK.DLL, EXTRAC32.EXE, REGSVR32.EXE, START.EXE, W95INF16.DLL + W95INF32.DLL are contained into HHUPD.EXE. I didn't add RUNDLL32.EXE because it exists on all Win32 systems. Please d/l HTML Help Update [677 KB]: http://ftp.mdgx.com/files/HHUPD.EXE Please let me know if it works ok.
  14. Did you try to open an 8 MB text file in Metapad? Did u notice how long it takes?I prefer PFE because [this is only 1 out of 50 reasons] loads any number of files of any size [limited by your installed RAM, of course] *fast*. Also: try to open a binary file [metapad.exe for example] in Metapad, see what happens. Then try that again with PFE. About dialog box resizing: there are free tools that do that [by hexing COMMDLG.DLL = which you can also do in ResourceHacker, ExeScope or XVI32 = http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#HEX ], so all Windows 9x/ME dialog boxes are taller/wider/etc. More info: http://www.virtualplastic.net/html/ui_dlgs.html But if u don't like PFE, you can also get another Notepad replacement [all freeware]: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#TXT BTW: I have replaced Notepad2 in 98SE2ME with PFE [install only option 5] [2.4 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/4 Or if u want PFE by itself [608 KB]: http://www.funet.fi/pub/simtelnet/win95/editor/pfe101i.zip Enjoy.
  15. The error message I got in one PC (intel pentium 1 -75mhz- with 64 megs of RAM) is that it could not find the INF file. I think your html help pack tried to run the hh.bat file but the hh.inf file was not really extracted yet. You need to give it some time (like a few seconds) to check whether or not all the files from the HH pack are properly extracted and then let the pack run the hh.bat file. whatever recent hotfixes I requested from MS are not added to Gape's SP v2.0 rc1, rc2 or final, just include them in SP v2.01 or v2.1. He might want to include the dispex.dll file (5.6.0.8825) from the W2k/XP version of WSH 5.6.8825 addon. I believe the W98/ME/NT4 version of MS's WSH 5.6.8825 addon has dispex.dll file version 5.6.0.6626 (which is wrong) instead of the newer one. what do you think MDGx? should gape put dispex.dll file v5.6.0.8825 in SP 2.0 instead of dispex.dll file v5.6.0.6626? I'll get soon on HHUPD.EXE and see why those install errors happen. I've tried it on my 98SE system and worked ok. I think it's a good idea to use the newer dispex.dll, I'm using it since the day MS relased it [installed it also on a friend's PC], and never had problems.
  16. I'm actually considering replacing Notepad2 [quite primitive] in 98SE2ME with the more sofisticated PFE [my favorite ]. See details here:http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#TXT
  17. Actually if I were to explain all this, would take hours. So you need to do some homework, kiddo... B) D/l W95-11D.EXE [1.25 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/95.htm install it [hope the install UI looks familiar, it's the same I used in 98SE2ME ], and then read: MEMORY.TXT, REGIONS.TXT, EMM386.TXT + memory related topics in MYTIPS95.TXT, TIPS95.TXT + TIPS98.TXT [some memory issues are also detailed in REGISTRY.TXT]. Memory topics in last 4 files are clearly marked. Warning: if using default Windows Notepad, you won't be able to open those text files, cuz they're huge. So u need a better Notepad replacement [all freeware, take a pick]: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#TXT You'll find all your answers in those files. Have fun.
  18. The Opengl32.dll patch is not actually necessary for 98SE, you can use the newer 1 from WinME instead, which has been fixed:http://support.microsoft.com/?id=240896 Opengl32.dll from WinME installs as part of 98SE2ME: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=37302 If u want to install it yourself from WinME Setup CD: pop in your CD [letter D used here, change if necessary], and then run this as batch file [saved in Notepad]: -------cut+paste------- @ECHO OFF D: CD\WIN9X EXTRACT WIN_14.CAB /Y /L %windir%\SYSTEM OPENGL32.DLL EXTRACT WIN_11.CAB /Y /L %windir%\SYSTEM GLU32.DLL CLS EXIT -------cut+paste-------
  19. Gape: Updated unofficial Windows NT4/98/ME HTML Help v1.41 [673 KB, English]: HHSETUP.DLL, ITIRCL.DLL, ITSS.DLL, HH.EXE + HHCTRL.OCX Update build 5.2.3790.1433 from Windows 2003 SP1 RC2. Maybe you would like to include them in SP 2.0 RC2 or final. I've tested these files on my system with 98SE, ME + XP SP2 and they work great. FYI: How to install HTML Help 1.41 on Windows ME: 1. You MUST disable System Restore: open Control Panel -> System -> Performance Tab -> File System -> Troubleshooting area -> check the "Disable System Restore" box -> click OK -> reboot. 2. Download + install CoolKill [797 KB, freeware]: http://www.prowebsitemanagement.com/downloads/coolkill.zip 3. Run COOLKILL.EXE -> right-click on the CoolKill icon in Taskbar Tray -> highlight STMGR.EXE -> left-click on it to terminate this process. 4. Download + install HHUPD.EXE (see above). 5. You may want to reenable System Restore: open Control Panel -> System -> Performance Tab -> File System -> Troubleshooting area -> uncheck the "Disable System Restore" box -> click OK -> reboot.
  20. I can provide you with free space + traffic to host files, and I can test them if u wish.I am interested to test what you have so far, if u prefer u can send them to me by email. Please contact me by email if you're interested. I'm also considering including your files in 98SE2ME, if OK with you [full credits given, of course]. And we can also tell Gape [up 2 u], maybe he'd like to include them into SP 2.0. IMHO: the last COMCTL32.DLL ver issued by MS is the one from MS IE 6.0 SP1, which you already have. B) PS: Have you considered using GDI+ [GDIPLUS.DLL from MSDN] instead? Maybe it has extra necessary functions Win9x GDI doesn't [just a thought, I'm not a programmer].
  21. Gape, Please add another mirror for SP 2.0 RC1 [15.1 MB].
  22. You do not require a particular web browser to connect to MS ftp site, just make sure the browser [or ftp client] you're using sends automatically an email address [any, even fake] to their servers per request. I usually use Netscape Navigator 3.04 [very old, dates back to 1997 B)] or WS_FTP LE to access public ftp servers. Passive mode [also available as an option in most FTP clients] only makes your broadband [xDSL/cable/sattelite/LAN] connection more compatible with any ftp server, which doesn't necessarily have to be the MS one. PASV [RFC 959]: This command requests the server to "listen" on a data port (which is not its default data port) and to wait for a connection rather than initiate one upon receipt of a transfer command. The response to this command includes the host and port address this server is listening on. Bassically the ftp control port is 20 [and the data port is 21]. When you connect to an ftp server, the server starts sending the PASV command back to your computer, to check your IP, 'cuz all access [as you may already know] is logged on most servers. If your computer sends back a data packet [reply], that means you're ok and will let you connect. But if your upstream [outgoing] packets are blocked by protocol restrictions [RE: FTP active mode] by a firewall, monitoring software, OS restrictions etc, then the ftp server you're trying to connect to will refuse your request and boot you out. So it's recommended to enable FTP passive mode to be able to connect by sending a [fake] email address [most browsers + ftp clients have this option], which is the minimum requirement to get on most FTP servers that are open to the public. MS ftp servers are annoying because they send the PASV command periodically [quite often], so if you are connected to their server but you're not actively browsing or downloading something after a couple of minutes, you're treated as a new customer, and they'll send a new PASV command all over again. The bad news is that the Win98 Resource Kit (RK) ftp server will be shut down by MS in May 2005. So go ahead and download while you can.
  23. Because unfortunately SHELL32.DLL and other system files from WinME are incompatible with Win98SE. If you find a way to successfully replace SHELL32.DLL, please let me know. Hope this helps.
  24. This is entirely your choice.98SE2ME is not only about speed, it improves/adds to the Win98SE OS in many ways. See the guide: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#KRM9S to learn which files are replaced. About 98SE SP 2.0 b3 + all other versions: they belong to Gape. Please see the appropriate MSFN topic for details: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=37455 Hope this helps.
