well the super cache is best used if you've got 128MB or more but 256 is actualy better

erpdude8 is right about aol,the older versions r crap and the newer aol does prefer a fairly fast comp

also instead of using scandisk use disk doctor from norton utilities,way better than scandisk and does a better job and doesen't have problems,also use 98lite if you can,install your apps after you've patched your os,i find apps install better than before if i do it that way

there are other apps that should list hidden updates like advanced uninstaller,ccleaner does list hidden apps that ad/remove hides if it finds any

yeah thats what i wanna know
he said before he don't want to include ie updates but yet he has updates for ie 5.5 and not 6,somethings wrong with that picture,also the new sp should include the option of installing the new critical update notification instead of having to dl it,and yes it is missing like 6 or more updates cuzz after i installed this i had like 5 more critical updates

he said something about partial slipstreaming meaning i hope we can soon make slipstreamed windows 98 se installations with ie6+the service pack and give the option to install the updates
yeah he said he was sick but maybe he has given up on the 98se sp 2.0 or maybe he needs a very long break

anymore problems?

there is no sp for win me just updates from windows update,did you try using ieiradicator to remove ie and reinstall it?if not format me and put 98/w2k/xp on and you won't have those problems
0 -
if you ask me he should include ie6 and all updates,i know it would increase the size by maybe 35-50MB but it would be worth it,most apps now need ie6,the ie that comes with 98 is ie5 and thats very old now,adding ie6+updates would be a very good thing but the newest directx+Updates aren't always needed as some win 98 users don't have directx 9.0c hardware(i have dx 9 hardware but i dl dx if i need it(i don't need to as i keep it around)

i think he is still sick or maybe he got over it

well ntfs is the best for large drives under 2000/xp
ntfs is better for these oses,i don't need win98 to see the other oses,i would like to but i'm not switching from ntfs just for that,if i need something i boot under those oses,transfer what i need to win 98 and thats simple,fat32 under 2000/xp is too slow
erpdude8:you should buy it or find it,it's only 50 bucks,i got mine for free,i disable wfp cuzz i don't need it,if i change an important file it nags me to replace it with the original and i change my system files 24/7 to the best ones around=no problems.
i have windows 98 se,xp sp1,xpsp2,w2ksp3 running all on one drive=not a problem,maybe he doing it wrong or sumthin,if you install 98 after xp u need a 3rd party boot app*winks cuzz i already got one*if install 98 then xp then no problem

did you install the 1.6.2 before the beta?if not try crap cleaner,under tools look for unnoficial if possible and maybe it will find it
0 -
windows 95 is dead but windows 98 is not dead,it will live on past win me
0 -
what about for systems that have 512?would would the setting be?cuzz i usualy transfer half a gig worth of files every 2 hours

here is the link

i'm saying they don't come as standard as they used to be
there only 10 bucks so you can't beat the price,also more ppl r using usb flash drives to replace the floppy drive.
SeanGil you should uninstall the sp 1.6.2 then
download DUN 1.4 from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloa...n14/default.asp
it won't grab files from the sp1.cab file or do a file search for sp1.cab after uninstalling the sp to make sure it is gone
this sp needs to be fixed,most times it won't install the windows installer v2 on my windows 98 se install so i have to install that myself or before installing the sp

if you use norton antivirus use nav 2002,it has a few less futures than 2005 or so but it boots fast

i agree
maybe it's the modem thats causing the pauses
did you update to the newest drivers?
also why are you using windows 98 se on that new of a system,with those specs 2000 or xp would be far better
2000 and xp like more and more ram,windows 98 se at first can't use more than 512
Add This To Your System.ini under 386Enh
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1,it will make windows use the ram before using the virtual memory
32BitDiskAccess=ON
PageBuffers=32
also add this to your config.sys file
FILES=65
BUFFERS=40
STACKS=64,512
tweak your modem settings too
enable write behind caching for removable drives
use 98lite to remove useless apps
enable dma on your devices like hard drive,cdrom/etc...
install dial up networking 1.4
your file caching is probably set too high=lower it to say 4096
use an antispyware app like giant antispyware or ad aware to remove spyware
go here http://www.mdgx.com/ and apply what you need

could you either try the beta of the sp 2.0 or format then put ie 6 then directx then all drivers then the sp then if you can use 98lite if you got it
0 -
to make it simpler i use xplite to turn wfp off,a simple click and thats it
0 -
well maybe cuzz you got more luck with asking them what you want and they give you what you want
0 -
why the quote?there was no need for it

your sure you downloaded the one for windows 98 se?that dll needs to be put in the system folder
if you install the sp you don't need the drivers
i use a jumpdrive elite 256MB&512MB&1GB and it never gives me that
MFC42U.DLL is for windows nt not windows 98 se
the file that the sp gives is for windows 98 se
just dl MFC42.DLL from here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mfc42
put it in the system folder and try again
i know the sp doesen't often install the windows installer v2 for me so i just get it offa one of my comps that has it or just dl it and install it
if you need to Rename the MFC42.DLL to MFC42U.DLL
that should work
