  1. I'm curious if it is just me, I could be wrong however but with FF3 any opening of an OPEN dialog box (uploading, saving an image, etc) results in FireFox crashing. Also, viewing some pages that use transparency hides all text (which is plainly seen on many MySpace pages).

Any possible idea what could be causing this; such as whether it's FF3, UberKern, or other reason specific?.

I can't reproduce that! Any particular pages causing those issues?

  2. I was too fast to say RC1 works okay - hotkeys and altgr-keyboard layouts may not work because of last-minute FF changes.

I've mostly finished porting UberKern to C (bye bye PB), so... therefore i declare original UberKern / patcher obsolete.

As soon as i'll finish APIs, test, convert them and contact Xeno86 you can expect Firefox 3 running on your desk with new KernelEx.

    RC1 fix will be there.

I'll try to explore the possibilities to run other new GTK+ programs. UberKern may revive as a patcher for InkScape or Gnumeric or sth else.

Me and Xeno86 are exploring the possibilities of creating new KernelEx architecture.

If it goes well, you won't ever have to patch a program again and somehow violate some strange mind's license.

  3. Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 is out:

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-rc.html

First post instructions apply to it as well. You may need to rename install program to short name.

RC1 generally works faster and better than Beta 5.

UberKern 0.3 is compatible with it. You still may need to disable malware checking if you experience disk trashing.

Note: you can't do partial auto-updating since patch binary is modified.

If possible, UberKern project is going to be terminated. Code will be ported to KernelEx. I'll post here when its fate is decided.

    Good luck!

  4. Pretentious.

    However,

I really believe this will be on every single windows machine in the next year.
and C# don't mix. It needs .NET Framework, which is not installed by default on pre-Vista machines (there are other Windows versions, you know).

What features are? Compression? Resumable downloads? Delta-patching? Hot-patching? Integrity checking? Clean removing and rolling back? License management? Service to check updates?

  5. This thread which required 1 simple answer is almost 3 pages now of bulls***.

Because nobody posting there can google nor trying to understand the problem.

Answer: NO. Even if you change those registry values every 1ms, it won't fix your buttons when you change theme. You're trying to fix effect, while you should fix cause. The cause is the Display Properties applet setting rectangular buttons, and you can't simply fix it.

  6. Because discussions in this subforum become quite pathetic to me, i bring here one matter to discuss.

    -= Icons pack format =-

Since I therefore declare Reshack'ing obsolete and inconvenient, i'll make icon packs support alongside with 32-bit icon support soon [i hope].

With this update, you'll be able to apply icon packs to replace icons and bitmaps in the system the most convenient way.

The only problem is with format for the packs. There a 3 ways (or more, i would like to see your versions):

1.Every system file <you want> with icons is mirrorred with resource library you provide

For example, there'll be explorer.exe.images and shell32.dll.images, and so on.

    + Easy to make

    - Hard to uninstall

2.One single file alongside with text settings file provides all system images

    + More effective

    - A LOT of data to edit

    [How should it look?]

3.One single file alongside with binary settings file provides all system images

    + Most effective

    - Need for program to prepary binary data

Since i'm not the graphic creator, i want to hear you.

  7. Hello there guys!

The mod team asked me to explain - why:

This project is started wrong way, and doomed right now very bad.

You've stated the wrong title and wrong goals.

The "developer team" sounds good, but does not apply to you.

But - but: MOST excellent projects on this board do not rely on coding - Gape, MDGx, maximus-decim, soporific, others.

You should take the good from them! They're tested by time very well.

    Your goals:

STEP 1: COLLECTING OF SYSTEM FILES
Is highly doubtful. All stable working compilations with complex versioning system are included into above projects. Why not combine them into one package with most benefits? Why not to make package installing all stable updates, newer unofficial ones, IE6, DirectX9, WMP9, etc? To have a goal of fast and small ultimate update? The list of your system files is pointless unless you have the prove from this forum that every updated file works as intended.

And oh: files from 2k/XP? You still don't believe they're not working in 9x or what? Good lists are on MDGx site, and yes, you can update them for XPSP3.

But not beyond public MS files. That's illegal and pointless.

    STEP2: GRAPHIC AND SYSTEM MODIFICATIONS
That's the tough point. Let me say: default theme liked better than any other one. That's axiom. And oh - seriously - reshacking certain files brokens some things.
    STEP3: LOCALIZATIONS
That's the very good goal! I'm sure sth can be achieved using Reshacker scripts. Why not make post-UNSP scripts to fix language back from English? That's not difficult, but can really help.
    STEP4: GNUWIN

That's the most heretic thing i see on this subforum. Unlike others, patchworks has't made any good work or idea. Just constantly breaking forum view with huge images and offering programs he does not use. There are good freeware/open-sauce programs and small tools. That's what you should search&taste. Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE has a good bunch of them.

    Forgive my rudeness, please.

You must understand that 9x is believed to be dead long time ago, and you're not going to resurrect it by "changing graphics and updating files".

    Stay tuned B)

  8. You has a bug with the -no-remote flag
I does? I DON'T modify Mozilla code and have _NO_ control over it! I have no idea about flags or what FF3 does with them.

And no, you wrong. It will crash with just -p as well. -no-remote is flag meaning "let me open browser multiple instance with different profiles". I've answered you how to run (work around) it. If you want to have a profiles window pop up every time, sorry, it seems to be not possible now.

  9. Went in, created a new profile FF3, and it worked. Closed FF2 and FF3 once more, and tried to reopen FF3, but it failed without giving a reason (though it said crash reporter couldn't open). Reopened FF2 and tried again. Failed once more.

Yeah, crash. If you want to use Firefox2 and Firefox3 with different profiles (named FF2 and FF3 for example) you can run Firefox3' firefox.exe with parameter -p FF3 and Firefox2' firefox.exe with parameter -p FF2. This way it does not crash for me.

Meanwhile, i test trunk builds every day and must say they work as expected with 0.3.

  10. UberKern 0.3

    - This version implements ToUnicode function which is needed to handle hotkeys in trunk Minefield builds as well as may be needed to correctly handle keyboard input with dead-keys (accent or diacritic).

As soon as i fixed this issue, other issues raise: now pictures are broken in latest-trunk.

There is also problem reported with sudden constant disk usage: if you monitor programs with FileMon, you'll notice lot of I/O on sqlite files.

The known workaround is to delete them  i'm not sure why this bug is triggered.

Solution: you can turn off malware protection in about:config (dowloading URLs from Google) to work this bug around. For YOUR OWN RISK!!!

  11. UberKern 0.2

    - Fixed text output (multi-line text could be weird);

    - Fixed non-existent glyph matching (some symbols were not displayed);

    - Dummed UpdateLayeredWindow (scrolling arrow was not displayed);

    - Fixed GetRandomRgn (trunk builds gfx was completely broken - note: they have other problems).

  12. Quite strange you can't install or unpack it. Adding into [PerApp] of kexver.ini

    Firefox Setup 3.0 Beta 5.exe=win2000

is enough to install it. WinRAR >3.50 can unpack the installer.

Also note that minimum 0.3.3d is required!

  13. Got it working... mostly :thumbup

Well, MoCo don't have one relaxed man-day to make FF3 run ok on older systems.

I think they deserve a good kick in the nuts and a good lecture about consequences of fanboyism.

  14. I'm thinking to a solution....but i guess it's not possible to make a patch work for win98 and win2000 files....so the only way is to make two packs-one with only the win98 files(an original pack) and one with RP7 files(maybe RP8). So that users can decide what to use.

How about RTFM? You can launch respatchers with /force key.

But notice, respatching is forbidden with KernelEx and not advised with RP8.

  15. Thanks for releasing sources, they're awesome and hilarious.

Now, tell me please about what have you achieved

Does it work better with some cards? What about VMWare?

I am still looking for a better and better and better way to safely trigger the timer int unhook
Well, are you sure it is bad? Ideally, some Windows structures or undocumented interrupts should be checked.

As for scandisk issue, i think that video state/palette save/restore will work, if it does not hang system. I must build a real system with nVidia card to test that.
