  1. Somehow I doubt they'll keep it simple and provide a direct way to make a bootable DVD that doesn't require backflips to install.  Otherwise it won't really be free for people who want the ability to reinstall it as needed in a pinch.

Besides the free download I am sure they will offer a alternate dvd to order, but built-in dvd drives are on the way out anyway with the advent of tablets and ultrabooks becoming more popular. Here is a Surface reinstall instructions from Microsoft to one of my customers that managed to do it all by herself (78 yrs young) and when she was in a pinch! from a thumb drive, but then again there are always the exceptions where someone will not read instructions and then will need lots of hand holding, just look at Bigmuscles Aero glass thread to prove that.

    Hello Mary,

On behalf of Surface support, I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the error you have been experiencing with your Surface RT. As we discussed earlier, I am providing you with the instructions on how to create a USB recovery drive for your Surface RT. On behalf of Surface support, I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us today. As we discussed earlier, I am providing you with the instructions on how to create a USB recovery drive for your Surface RT.

Download and create a USB recovery drive

To download the recovery drive, you'll need:

•A PC running Windows 7 or later.
•A USB drive with more than 4GB storage capacity.
Important Creating a recovery drive will erase anything that is already stored on your USB drive. Make sure to transfer any important data from your USB drive to another storage device before using it to create a Surface USB recovery drive.

2.Insert your USB drive into the USB port of your PC.
3.From the desktop, open File Explorer.
4.Tap and Hold or right-click on the USB drive and choose Format.
5.Select FAT32 as the file system and enter a Volume label to name the USB drive, such as RECOVERY , and then tap or click Start.
6.Tap or click OK to erase the contents of the USB drive.
7.Tap or click OK when the format is complete.
8.Double click on the Zip file that was downloaded
9.Choose the option to "Extract All" at the top and choose the USB Flash Drive as the location.

Use a USB recovery drive to reset your Surface (Cannot load Windows):

1.Turn the Surface off by pressing the power button.
2.Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port.
    3.Press and hold the volume-down (-) rocker.
4.Press and release the power button.
5.When the Surface logo appears, release the volume rocker.
6.Surface will start the recovery software on the USB recovery drive.
7.When prompted, choose your language options and keyboard layout.
    8.Select Troubleshoot.
    9.Select Reset.
10.If prompted, select Repartition the drives.

  2. You could also streamline your script by adding copy and path variables as well, that way you can easily change your paths if they need revising, here is a snippet of code to demonstrate.
    ~DP
    :: VariablesSet "Cpy=xcopy /eihky"Set Ck_Lang="d:\win7\boot\cs-cz\nul"Set Src_Path="e:\install\os\windows images\win7_%architecture%_%language%"Set Dest_Path="d:\win7"Set xml_Path="e:\unattended\keyb-EN-US+CZ-QWERTZ.xml"Set Install_Path="d:\win7\sources\$OEM$\$1\install":: Condition CheckIf Exist %Ck_Lang% (Set Language=-cz) Else (Set Language=)Goto Copy:Copy%Cpy% "%Src_Path%" "%Dest_Path%">nul%Cpy% "%xml_Path%" "%Install_Path%">nul

  3. Well since Bigmuscle created the software he is entitled to do whatever he feels best, this popup and donation

has be discussed on here Ad nauseam and there is no way on God's earth that you can make everyone happy, so just

be glad that someone out there brought Aero back and live with it.

  4. One of my issues when using the metro apps is you can't download from the Windows Store without using a Microsoft Account.
Which means if you have a Local account setup that allows you to bypass using a  password when logging on is you will be forced to convert from your Local to a MS Live account and then use a password every time you sign on. So your only solution is to NOT use the Windows store to avoid all this.

  5.

I also may add that Microsoft "forces" you to have Windows Updates enabled in order to use the Windows Store App downloads.

    ~DP

Does that only apply if Windows Update is completely disabled?

I have it set to notify me of updates but not to download or install them, and I have installed free apps from the Windows Store and it's worked fine.

    :)

I don't know about update settings since my update service is disabled until I get ready to check for updates.

  6. If you have a  purchased retail key just go here and enter your key to download or get a dvd: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/microsoft-office-2010-backup-FX101853122.aspx

If you want to download 2013 without key go here (from the digital river cloud):  http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/73-office-2013-direct-download-links

If you just lost you legit key and O2K10 is already installed you can use the Nirsoft ProduKey then re-download for future reinstall.

  8. Try this 'High Performance'  option script..

    ~DP

    @echo off:: Set Power Plan to High Perfromance%Windir%\System32\powercfg.exe /setactive 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635cexit /b:: Balanced::%Windir%\System32\powercfg.exe /setactive 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e:: Power Saver::%Windir%\System32\powercfg.exe /setactive a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a

Has anyone else had the issue of changes between Power Plans not being permanent? I.E On my test laptop I can switch from "Balanced" to "High Performance" but in 15mins time it reverts back to "Balanced".

For the time being I just changed the settings in "Balanced" to the same as "High Performance". Incidentally changing the name of the power plan does not solve the issue.

    Cheers, Ben.

  9. Just rename your key to donation.key and it should work..

    Hello there,

I have just updated my Aero Glass for Windows 8.1 to the latest version and found that it become the public version. I searched for login related emails in my inbox and found nothing. I probably deleted it. What can I do now? Can you send my login password to my email? Or is there any other solution?

    Thanks!
