  1. IT IS NOT A BUG: It is a normal behavior for a windowed 3D game to stay on top of others, even in XP/Vista/7.
  2. No repro here, my steps: 1). Launch "Sniper Elite V2". Start the game play. 2) Hit "LWin" key, the result was it took me to the desktop with the start menu opened. So LWin works perfectly for me. No problem. Have tried Sniper V2 and Crysis 2, both modes full-screen and windowed, no repro. LWin takes me to the desktop with the start menu opened. I can launch other apps but mind it's normal that a windowed 3d mode is the top most, so other windows may be covered by it.

  4. What if StartIsBack installer gives users that choice? If you right click anywhere on Windows 7 start menu panel and then click the orbit, the menu just closes. Unlike StartIsBack which in this case does not close but refreshes the menu instead. Remember, Tihiy had fixed the bug when the menu would sporadically auto-close on its own.
  5. I prefer it for the current user. This way I can have accounts without the start menu. Sure quite a few people will prefer it for all users, while the rest will need it only per user; therefore, it's a good idea to let choose during nstallation of StartIsBack.
  6. And with one? With only one account active, the one I've created with the administrator privileges, with UAC on, I don't get that bug. I end 'explorer.exe' process and then restart it from the task manager, and in this case the orbit shows up fine. It's a better idea per user than for the entire machine because not every user may want it, and the app hasn't been ironed out yet. For the final installer, it could be worth allowing to choose whether you want it for the current user only or for all.
  7. And with one? As I said there is no difference here, since: I have 2 accounts with administrator privileges. With only 1 account logged I don't get that bug.
  8. I got repro with 2 admin accounts active.
  9. Did it - absolutely clean admin. (Just created it) Same behaviour. Bug confirmed. Shall I create a video? Let me ask you something obvious just to make sure just in case, do you restart explorer.exe after you have closed it? Because start button ain't supposed to be there with explorer closed. edit: Sure, that would be awesome. I'm curious as to what the heck is going on. Ok, waiting for your video ...
  10. @ISOHeaven, I forgot to thank you for the screenshots, well made and persuasive. :TY:
  11. I'm afraid I don't have a problem with it at all. It's just how the line is rendered. In fact, ex7forW8 did the same thing on Server 2012. Neither do I have a problem with that style because I normally use normal windows theme. All sorted now. Still no repro. I suggest you create a totally new administrator account and try StartIsBack there. Should be no problem, waiting for your report ...
  12. Then you changed something. Did you remove items from that list? That's the only way to remove the line, if an entire group is gone then it will not display the separator. Server 2012 with and without Desktop Experience (both are identical): Windows Server 2008 R2: Windows 7: Windows 8: That line is not a bug. It's already there. I know it's not a bug and the tiny line looks different with different themes. It's just so less tiny, quite awkward with basic and high contrast themes. If bothered, blame Windsows 8 entirely. @ISOHeaven, do you agree?
  13. I've tried both ways, via task manager ansd from the cmd. Go to programs and features, uninstall, reboot, and install again. Also, may some process be involved here that's causing that bug?
  14. I've tried it but it doesn't work. In Win7 the pinning of WU was also disabled, but I was able to drag & drop it to the pinned area. But this also no longer in Win8. It works for me, I right clicked a pinned item > properties > path > %windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81-ad49-0e313f0c35f8} > , then to general tab > changed name to 'Windows Update'. The first time you click it, nothing happens, startisback is resolving and updating your new shortcut properties. RE-OPen the menu and click again, now it's working and takes you to windows updates.
  15. Nope. There's a separator on Win8 default install with normal themes. Except it's a tiny thin line. So that's why there's a line there. It just paints differently in different situations. Nope, with the normal theme (which appears on my Personalization under the name "Windows") I don't have that tiny line. With the high contrast and "Basic" themes I do have that line. Mind the situation includes the 'themes' service running, with Desktop Experience on. I agree that the tiny line is part of Windows 8 and is no big deal. That's basically what I said in my previous post. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I can't reproduce it in my server 2012: I kill explorer.exe => get my taskbar gone and no metro either => then Ctr-Shift-Esc, Task Manager => run explorer.exe => my taskbar gets redrawn with the start button natively on it. Once installed, StartIsBack becomes part of your windows explorer.
  16. Windows 8 may get Aero Glass back via modder In a post on PCBeta.com's message boards, the modder, who goes by the handle "kwanmacher", claims that he has put in the Aero Glass look in the Windows 8 desktop by adding in the source codes. He has also added a screenshot in his post to prove he got the mod to work. This person claims that he will make the files for the Windows 8 Aero Glass mod freely available to download sometime next week. Hopefully they will work as advertised. We also hope Microsoft allows this kind of mod to be released for Windows 8.
  17. That separator LINE appears only with BASIC or HIGH CONTRAST themes, you'll see no such "bug" with regular Windows 8 theme. It might be there due to Windows 8 msstyles. ------------------------------------------------------------------- A very small bug: - boot up your system and wait for startup to fully load - press your hotkey (Ctr-Win in my case) to invoke Metro screen = the very first time you press it only the dark blue screen flashes but Metro doesn't come out. The second and all other times the Metro screen launches fine. Until reboot when again, the first time you hit the Metro key it brings up no Metro. Then it works fine again untill next reboot. Has anyone else had it, or is it mine only? ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGESTION № - I sue 'Hibernate' a lot, but I'm missing it in the 'Shutdown options'. In fact, I'd prefer 'Hibernate' to be my power button default action. D:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
  18. @wazer, there is nothing wrong with your question which is basically "Wait a minute, are you saying this project is not free after all the testing?" - Unfortunately it's not free, as it was clearly stated and just as anyone could witness from the very beginning - even beta0 which was the very first version of StartIsBack came out with a time limit. Sorry for quoting this again: Every beta version of StartIsBack has been time-limited for evaluation and testing purposes.
  19. Did you just say that "thanks for all the help, now when you have helped me go buy my program. ?. MSFN dont support that. It's in the second post of this thread where it clearly says: Every beta version of StartIsBack has been time-limited for evaluation and testing purposes.
  20. StartIsBack is indeed impressive, and it doesn't conflict with Classic Shell. I have both StartIsBack and Classic Shell running alongside.
  21. I totally agree it's the best restoration of modern style start menu. I second your suggestion for the Win key. Actually there are 2 Win keys, left and right, and there is Ctr-Esc that also opens start menu. I think it's a good idea to add more options: LWin - opens the start menu LWin - starts Metro screen RWin - opens the start menu RWin - starts Metro screen Those options could be arranged with a radio button or via drop-down. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Currently there are Win-Ctr, Win-Shift, Win-Alt (in the Modern UI) that start the Metro screen. I'm quite happy with each of those combinations, but quite a few people would prefer a single Win key, as they are much used to it. @Тихий, what do you think of moving out 'Hotkeys' to a separate tab in the StartIsBack config tool, at some point of the development?
  22. Could you try to find a reproducible case for that issue, or describe when such thing happens? I never saw flickering either. If i move my mouse all the way to the top of the screen, all the icons start flickering, i just noticed this while trying to reproduce the Modern UI popping up when moving the mouse to the lower left corner. - But this inst consistent either, like the ModernUI menu button in the bottom it just works as supposed to and other times its doing that -.- Merely reporting my experience that I haven't seen this issue at all yet with Beta 3 or before. My video card is 3-4 year old technology and the rest of the PC is about 2-year old technology. Are you running any soft you can think of that may be causing that behavior? I just doubt a 2 year-old hardware can do that. If i move my mouse all the way to the top of the screen, all the icons start flickering, i just noticed this while trying to reproduce the Modern UI popping up when moving the mouse to the lower left corner. - I tried that and got no repro, but it doesn't mean there is no such bug as you report. I suggest when you see it again, also list your Modern UI settings as well as any 3rd party windows customization tools (if any). If you meant to reply to me, I haven't had this issue. Lol, it was just to say that didn't bug me either, and to quote the op as well. Cumulative bug track, so to speak. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Right, my point was to try to track the nature of your bug, not just that you have it but find out what's causing it.

  24. yeh, this had mentioned many times before No big deal really, but I too would prefer it black.
  25. It's same way in Windows 7 start menu, the color in the search box is not black. That's not true, only the "Search programs and files" is in gray, but typed text is black. What's interesting to note is that when you start typing in StartIsBack search box, there is no lag like the one when opening a jump list. And the search results pane does not grow outside the right column of the menu. Just an observation.
