  1. @ Prathapml I always use cd-r's and do a clean install on a pc dedicated for this purpose, testing only, and view it thru my KVM switch - because the amount of posts I've read where something has gone wrong and the first thing the poster says is: "Ill have to test separately to rule vmware/virtualpc out of the equation!" I prefer to rule them out of the equation from the word go. Why add another potential failure point into the equation of a test install? I know some people might not have the luxury of a separate machine, but I'm not an expert, I'm a newbie to the uA scene and I need as few a complications as poss.
  2. [GuiRunOnce] %systemdrive%\install\start.cmd Might be obvious, but have you put your start.cmd file in your "install" folder as in the above path you have stated in your winnt.sif file?
  3. @ Cartoonite There is no mention of [branding] in the example for the winnt file on the website but as this works for you tested and ok this must be the solution. Many thanks - I will test this now. Do I have to include the [Proxy] entries too? Even if the values are zero? Or can this be safely omitted? I dont want to waste a blank cd for the sake of another 2 lines of text!
  4. You will have to post your cmd file and winnt.sif files here for examination, as from the information you have given it isnt possible to give an explanation of whats going wrong for you. Also check your distribution folder relationship at http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/oemfolders.htm to make sure the hierachy is correct.
  5. Following the example for the winnt.sif file I've been using the following entry under the section Home_Page=http://www.google.com But upon investigation after install when double clicking the I.E. icon I always get the default MS run-once redirect. This has been an annoyance for ages now with my installs, and no amount of searching has produced an answer. Can anyone explain if I'm doing something wrong or suggest a workaround. Or is this a case of outdated info again on the website that doesnt apply now? Perhaps these instructions were dropped after a while and are inneffective now? TIA.
  6. @ RyanVM & Alanoll Thanks for the explanation of the workings of the /integrate switch and the mechanics of what happens where and when as a result of its deployment. This was exactly the primer I needed in the subject but thats why I said in an earlier post that I would do a bit of googling for some answers as I didnt want to be cheeky and ask direct on the forum for this sort of in-depth answer - many thanks from me to you both. In conclusion, I've decided to stay with Ryan's update pack for my XPiso and I'm not going to bother "in between" as it will involve too much work and may only be relevant for a few weeks anyway. I am only going to produce an updated uA XPCD as and when Ryan's point releases come out. If any major issues arise in the meantime before v105 I will apply them manually to the machine but not add them to my iso.
  7. @ Incroyable Hulk Thanks for all your advice, I'll do some googling and research before posting anymore on here. Dont really see the point in "integrating" a hotfix for it just to reside in the svcpack dir without any execution or actual integration taking place??? Unless the svcpack.inf file executes/integrates the hotfix post-install or gets called by something??? Hence the orig request for an updated hotfix workshop.
  8. @demitrix No it doesn't refer to the cd drive! %systemdrive% refers to the drive that Windows has just been installed on. It is written that way so that whatever drive Windows has been put on C, D, E etc or wherever it will be discovered. Also at that stage Windows is already on the PC, and the $OEM$ folders have all been copied over to the hard drive and my "batch_file.cmd" is executing. Please review/read the overview of the directory (folders) structure at http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/oemfolders.htm and also the timeline of events at http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/timeline.htm
  9. @Incroyable hulk et al Think I understand now. (At last I hear you say!) Need to expand my iso into "proper" files and folders first. In the cmd window i need to type = kbxxx.exe /integrate:path_to_i386_dir Please excuse my ignorance but then will this just "put" the hotfix in the svcpack dir or will it integrate the hotfix into the OS properly? Thanks for all your advice.
  10. @ et al In my personal situation I use Ryan's latest pack but what I would like to do between Ryan's point releases is also use SVCPack or perhaps something else for hotfixes, i.e.a combination of the two and this is what I'm struggling to find a solution for at the moment. I'm in the process tonight of making a new iso with Ryan's v104 pack - BUT I want to know how to be able to integrate MS post Ryan v104 pack hotfixes. Can I use the /integrate cmd to literally integrate them into my iso image? Or do the exe's have to be put on my CD and called from somewhere?
  11. @Incroyable Hulk Thanks for the pointer, its an excellent and accurate list and all credit to you for keeping the sticky updated so well, I WAS aware of it. Perhaps I didnt make it clear, what I was getting at in my thread was the actual nuts and bolts of creating the folder, the inf file, the qchain business etc. as I felt that the GUIDE was long overdue. (With respect to the admins who may not have had to time to work on it). If Ryans latest pack v104 is integrated into your OS iso then you will be totally up to date for now, but it wont be long before some more hotfixes are released! But there are many who DONT use Ryan's packs.
  12. @ admin et al Any idea when the guide to downloading & installing the post SP2 Hotfixes will be updated? I know most of use use RyanVM's excellent 100% reliable .cab, but during the intermediate stages between his releases a guide would be useful. We also must consider those that dont use his cab and who would benefit from an updated guide. The webpage says "Coming soon" & I know time might be short for admins, but this guide is really long overdue. Any chance of an update?

  14. Yes, the configuration wizard wont run until you've restarted - but once it has run everything is ok. Hence my restart to force it to run.
  15. @ToBe Might be as simple as restarting PC before touching Norton. I have added a psshutdown restart cmd to the end of my batch_file to restart PC very last thing. Then on first "proper" Windows run (well its the 2nd run, really) the Norton behaves itself. My NAV used to say "the pc must be restarted before using this product" or something to that effect so I have now added the restart to my batch. You could adapt this for your "runonce" thingy but as I dont use it you will have to work the syntax out for yourself. ECHO. ECHO Restarting the PC automatically in 15 secs... psshutdown.exe -r -f -t 15
  16. @Astalavista "My" method definitely works for NAV2005 and is NOT machine specific. Now tested on multiple machines. You might be using the runonce method though, whereas I only run the batch_file cmd method. So I cannot comment on the runonce posts and I cannot comment on the NIS, NSW posts as I dont have these products, just NAV2005. "My" syntax must be used exactly as it appears by copy & paste as any alteration of the order of events or syntax (except the s/n of course) will not work.
  17. Searched and searched but cannot find a working link to D/L this file anywhere in these forums. Can anyone suggest a URL that is live or can someone PM or email me please if they have this file. TIA
  18. @Alias_2004 Sorry to tell you, this is not the case for NAV2005. I have tested NAV2005 on 3 separate machines at home here and I can most definitely confirm that the same symlcrst.dll file was used for all these 3 machines and all 3 worked fine. No problem. The only probs I had was when using jbright's original syntax as there were errors in it and bits missing etc. And it didnt work in the order he had it either. The syntax I posted above WORKS PERFECTLY and works in multiple machines - no problem. Why contradict my results when you have not seen them? The NAV2005 symlcrst.dll IS NOT machine specific. NAV2004 maybe, I havent tried it. Cannot say the same will work for NSW or NIS as I dont have these products. But I can categorically state that NAV2005 is most definitely NOT machine specific. Doesnt matter how big you capitalise "the activation process only works in one machine" or even what colour you choose - I have tested in 3 machines and got 3 machines working ok. Get over it.
  19. @jrf2027 @jbright et al Done some more testing and can confirm what was said earlier that the NAV2005 installer does NOT overwrite the placed already activated one. (I mistakenly thought it would). I can also confirm that the method works on multiple machines tested = OK. THE METHOD = Install NAV 2005. Register it and activate it. Then uninstall the product and retrieve "symlcryst.dll" which is left after the uninstall in dir X:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC. Copy this .dll into your Install\Applications\NAV2005 dir along with all the NAV setup files straight off your CD (or wherever) and slim down using same deletions as for NAV2004 if you're pushed for space. Use this syntax in your batch_file.cmd = ECHO. ECHO Registering and Activating Norton Anti-Virus 2005 ECHO Please wait... MKDIR "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccpd-lc" COPY "%systemdrive%\install\applications\Nav2005\symlcrst.dll" "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccpd-lc\" REGEDIT /S %SYSTEMDRIVE%\install\applications\Nav2005\NAVSETUP.reg ECHO. ECHO Installing Norton Anti-Virus 2005 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %SYSTEMDRIVE%\install\applications\Nav2005\NAVSETUP.exe "/qn /noreboot REBOOT=ReallySuppress" and put a file called Navsetup.reg which contains the following in your NAV2005 dir Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\CCPD-LC\KStore\00000082\0000000f\0000001b] "Key"="XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" Hope this helps someone. Just working on pre-updating the virus defs now, but there's loads of threads on how to do that. One of them should work.
  20. NERO Vision keygen!? Very naughty. Tut, tut.
  21. @jbright Tried your system today and it did not work. The reason is: when you install NAV the installer writes a fresh version of the .dll in the CCPD-LC directory. Then when the batch file tries to MKDIR it rears up and says "Folder already in use by another process" - which is obviously NAV. And it wouldn't work the other way round either because if you made the dir first and copied the .dll into it, the NAV installer would simply overwrite it! P.S. Your batch file syntax is incorrect anyway, you've missed the "start /wait" bit out from your 5th line. Close but no cigar, thought it sounded too good to be true.
  22. The first version to support a silent install was V5.0.2.2 with the /S switch. See URL=http://www.afterdawn.com/software/version_history/clonecd.cfm for details. Just get that version or any subsequent one, otherwise without a good understanding of AutoIT (which you admit you aint got) - you will struggle unnecessarily. HTH
  23. @jbright Thanks for sharing this solution. This is the one most of us have been waiting for. It seems too simple to be true bearing in mind all the mullarky with 2004. I'm gonna test it a.s.a.p. Fair play to you, well done - and ignore the trolls.
  24. Thanks for the reply but I thought the "Cleanup.cmd" file was only used in conj with the "RunOnceEx.cmd"? As I'm using the batch_file.cmd method I havent got a Cleanup.cmd file. Could I add your syntax to the end of my batch_file? Or would it be different?
  25. Could it be possible for me to add some syntax at the end of my batch file to delete the "Install" directory that is installed to the systemdrive once all the apps have installed themselves? If this is feasible could someone help me with the necessary command please.
