  1. @HarryTri Maybe that's why I can't find any then Harry If that's the case - I might have to go down this route here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/split-a-windows-image--wim--file-to-span-across-multiple-dvds?view=windows-11 PS: I would boot from a USB flash drive - but I keep hitting this error - and it seems a lot of hoops to jump through: https://www.avoiderrors.com/unable-create-new-system-partition/
  2. Thanks for your helpful reply @NotHereToPlayGames My Acer has got a DL optical drive. I'm a bit stuck where to find DVD+RW DL disks here in the UK. Obviously I prefer +RW DL disks so I can re-use them if needed - eg. if the burn process doesn't work.
  3. Thanks for pointing that out @Tripredacus I think I will just stick with using the iso direct from the Microsoft website.
  4. Hello all, I'm trying to fit Windows 10 22H2 installer onto a 4.7GB DVD+RW disk - but the image is too big. Is there any way I can do this from Linux Mint please? TIA
  5. Thanks for that link Jaclaz. As long as I can use this to produce 3d woodworking plans, like bird boxes and bird tables then that's OK with me. I'll check it out and give more feedback later. Regards - Jed.
  6. Does anyone know of a free 3D CAD program like AutoCad please to run on Vista Home Premium? TIA - Jed
  7. I'm trying to master how to make excellent Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. Can anyone please recommend some free PDF tutorials that I can work through with Word and Excel on screen? Even something suitable online would suffice, as I have dual monitors - 1 for the tutorial and 1 for learning Word and Excel on. I have a basic knowledge of using Word, and my Excel knowledge is at "Hello World" level TIA Jed.
  8. Thanks for that heads-up submix8c. I have downloaded the complete MS office zip package from bookboon. Will take a look at that ASAP. Jed
  9. Can anyone please recommend a good book on administering Outlook for user's at work. I'm mainly a Linux Sys Admin, but need to know how to setup outlook for others. Recently on Outlook 2007 I tried to add another email address to a users profile, that already has 3 email addresses, and when I added the new email address, all the inboxes for the other email addresses disappeared. So I deleted the latest email address I added, and the other email addresses and folders returned. Did I create a new email profile that took precedence over the existing profile? All I wanted to do was to add another email address to the existing profile, so the user can continue to receive emails for the existing addresses, and use their own new email address as well. TIA Jed
  10. Thanks for those replies. I've decided to build a dedicated Linux server, and use one of the PHP calendar booking systems. This needs to scale so we can have ten or more people using the booking calendar. So the excel thing was just a short-term fix that I don't really want to get involved with. Thanks again for all the input on this. Jed
  11. Hi everyone. Can anyone please recommend a free desktop publishing program that would allow me to open several images as layers, and to build up a single picture, and then save as a flattened jpg file? I can do this using the GIMP 2.2.17, but I need an interface that allows me to resize and move those image layers in an interactive way in real time. I also need a free image library viewer, that would allow me to browse the images I create with the above application. (Using Windows Photo Gallery for that now I've installed and taken a look at Scribus DTP and that seems to do the trick nicely - unless anyone out there knows of something better please? TIA - Jed
  12. Thanks for those links jaclaz. I'll take a look at them soon. I don't like the idea of using an excel spreadsheet like a database either. As a temporary measure, what if the current spreadsheet was split into two seperate sheets? That way one of the operators can have half of the contractors in their own spreadsheet, and the other call operator can have the other half of the contractors in their spreadsheet. They can both have read/write access then without getting locked out from making updates to their calendars.
  13. I agree totally with both replies. I'm not happy with using Excel to perform things that a spreadsheet program was not initially designed to do. Regarding the two user write issue I agree with this as well. What they really need is - as has been mentioned, some sort of database calendar/booking system that will scale well. So this was just a quick fix to keep them happy until a more suitable solution has been implemented. I'll tell them it's not designed to have two user's with write privileges active at the same time. Update: I have found this here: http://www.atoolspro.com/ http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Other-Office-Tools/A-Tools-Free-Edition.shtml but it looks quite complicated to set up to me. This may be useful to somebody else.
  14. There is a situation at work where 2 users need simultaneous write access to the same excel spreadsheet on the LAN. At the moment the first user to connect has both read/write access. If another user accesses the spreadsheet they get read-only access. Is there some way to fix this so both users have get read/write access at the same time please? They are both taking telephone calls, and want to update a booking calendar spreadsheet in real time. TIA
  15. Is there such a thing as a free IDE with a built-in debugger for debugging ASP scripts, in the same way one would use the Eclipse Platform and PHPEclipse for debugging PHP please?
  16. This is on Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I found that XAMPP was the most easiest to install. With the others I could not get Apache to start. The only thing is XAMPP requires UAC to be turned off to install or run it. I'd rather not turn UAC off globally so I thought about creating a separate user - called xampp-devel - and then assigning the permissions to the installation directory (C:\xampp) and it's contents to this user. Would that work please? TIA Jed
  17. Thanks for your reply jaclaz. Those different portable versions of apache look interesting. I think I will be using XAMPP for now, as that seems to work very nicely. I tried EasyPHP but could not get the services to start. Jed
  18. I need to set up a WAMP package on Windows Vista. I'm looking at: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html and also found: http://www.easyphp.org/ What's the easiest way to install and setup a WAMP stack for Windows Vista please? What do you use or recommend? TIA Jed
  19. OK - thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction. I felt it was appropriate to start a new thread with this, as what I'm trying now is another option not to do with nLite or slipstreaming SP's. My main reason for this new thread was not being able to burn bootable Installation media, but that's fine now, thanks to jaclaz pointing out ImgBurn to me. I'll do some more testing by burning modified ISO images of the installation disk. I'm not bothered about the recovery part of the disk, as I always do a sector by sector wipe of the HDD and then install Windows fresh onto that. I'll report back when I have made more progress! Jed
  20. Thanks for all those very helpfull replies. This a very interesting learning experience for me I think the confusion about using the term recovery disk comes from these laptop Windows installation & recovery disks being generally referred to by the less well-informed (including myself) as simply 'the recovery disk' - like as in "do you have the recovery disk with this laptop as well?" Please accept my apologies for this So what is the correct name to call these laptop OEM installation & Recovery Disks please? Yes submix8c, all I want to do is to create an OEM installation CD, that will also allow me to copy the missing drivers to the hard drive, and then install those drivers directly from the hard drive. I'm out of upload space here Used 1.08MB of your 1000K global upload quota (Max. single file size: 64MB) So here is is a link to the directory tree for the Advent OEM Installation & Recovery disk, as requested by cdob. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?8fvq7d4j8kzp6wg Jed
  21. I have now made 2 verified copies of the following Recovery Boot disks. Advent 7113 Vista Home Premium (DVD+R) Advent 6415 Combo XP Home Edition (CD-R) I have verified them both twice, and they both boot up OK to the installation screen. The XP edition actually did a full installation, and this was copying from the I386DIST\ folder. I have nuked the HDD on the 6415 again with vivard. Now I understand how to burn bootable Windows restore disks that actually work, I will have a go later at modifying the contents of the Advent 6415 XP ISO, and then rebuild the ISO image to add those missing drivers for the Advent 7096. Any suggestions where to put any files I want to be copied onto the HDD during the recovery procedure please? Thankyou for all the help in getting me this far! Jed
  22. OK - the plot thickens - LOL. I created another Boot ISO for another recovery disk - an Advent 7113 laptop that takes Windows Vista Home Premium. This is a 3 GB DVD image. I then burned the Vista DVD image to the 'faulty' DVD+RW disk, after cleaning my DVD drive laser lens. This TDK DVD is now showing no verify errors, and I also did a second verify of the DVD against the ISO image I burnt the disk from. Again no errors whatsoever. I only use these DVD+RW disks for temporary purposes, like Linux OS installations, and then re-use them to burn a later release of the said OS. So my apologies to TDK I need this Vista recovery disk anyway, as I have 3 Advent 7113 laptops that all have their license stickers for Vista, but only one recovery disk. I'm burning the Vista ISO to a DVD+R disk to save with one of the other 7113 laptops. Next is to try to burn a modified copy of the original Advent 6415 Recovery disk, and see if that will boot up OK. I cannot see why it wouldn't ? Thanks for all the help with this! Jed
  23. I'm confused: How do you make a verbatim copy? How much data holds the rescue DVD? How to write a full DVD to CD? Trust ImgBurn, distrust the media: destroy the media. ..by chance and may cause unpredictable errors in future. Distrust this DVD+RW media in future. Although it says DVD on the disk, it's only 640MB in size, so it fits onto the 700 MB CD-RW fine. Yes - I will trust ImgBurn and seek out some decent media. This is TDK which is supposed to be a good make? I'll check out the DVD/CD reviews on the ImgBurn forum.
