  1. Ok! I can see it is not as simple as moving the ISO file to my USB! I'm following the How to Install XP from USB. I have formatted my USB using HP format tool and then I downloaded the multiboot.cmd. I am only using a Sandisk 4gb USB. How do I know if it has a high enough read/write speed? Will get back to this tomorrow and hopefully have a bootable XP USB!
  2. Ok. I tried a couple of things. I initially tried to follow the Install from Win XP instructions to make PLOP one of the Boot choices. When I tried to edit boot.ini and save it I got an error that "could not create boot.ini check filepath". I then tried burning the plpbt.iso to CD. I initially ran the CD without my USB plugged in and I correctly got the PLOP boot menu. I successfully booted Windows from PLOP. Then I tired plugging in my USB and restarting. I go to the menu and selected USB. Unfortunately, I got this message "No configuration file found, no default of UI configuration found". My USB only contains my ISO file from nLite. I'm going to try to research some. If anyone knows what I'm missing please let me know. Thanks Mobes
  3. Hey Ponch. Unfortunately, my wife has me doing this thing called work! I'm hoping to spend some time on it now. I think what I'm going to do is burn the ISO to a CD and then use PLOP that way on my Desktop PC.
  4. Hey Guys, Just getting back. I have some questions about booting from USB. Once I'm able to boot from USB, is it as simple as moving the ISO to my USB and installing from there? Or, do I have to create a "bootable" USB prior to putting the ISO on the USB? Also, is the ISO file the only file that should be on the USB? I was looking at burning the ISO from PLOP and running it from a CD or should I install PLOP on the hdd of my desktop PC? Sorry for 20 questions! Thanks
  5. Doesn't look like the BIOS supports boot from USB. I'm not familiar with how new that ability is in BIOS. Again, this thing is about 6yrs old... I still think I want to learn how to create the install from USB.
  6. Haven't investigated yet getting a new drive. However, funny you mention the install from usb, I was thinking about that! I will check that out. That would be a nice alternative! I will give that a try. Thanks
  7. The device is both a DVD/CD reader/writer. It is an internal HP740B. I found a couple of firmware updates but still nothing. As Ponch and 5eraph mention I'm sure now it is the device that's the problem. I also tried to burn the image using the HP740B with ImgBurn and ImgBurn did not recognize the media. Even though this PC is 6 yrs old, I rarely used the DVD writer. I did test with a video DVD as well and it recognized the media but did not play it. Thanks for all of your input and help. Definitely not nLite issue! Mobes
  8. I also have been using ImgBurn. However, my last attempt was with Nero. I am attempting again with new mkisofs.exe using ImgBurn. I will review the link you provided. Seems strange that my PC doesn't even see the files. I figured that I wouldn't even try to boot from the CD/DVD since I cannot even Explore the DVD files. However, I can with my laptop. Mobes
  9. k. So, I used the mkisofs noted below. This was the most recent from SpoiledBrats link. Can you confirm? I've tried burning at 2.4x, still on a Memorex DVD. I also confirmed the DVD/CD Rom is compatible. However with all this, still the same result. I could read the contents of the disc on my Laptop (where I burned image). However, my PC does not read the disc. Would it help to burn the image from my PC DVD burner instead of my Laptop? I will wait to hear back before trying Verbatim. mkisofs.exe 03-Jul-2006 16:38 336K Thanks!

  11. Thanks again. I'll give a try with a speed slightly slower and then try Verbatim if needed. I'll report back. Mobes
  12. Thanks 5eraph. I did burn at the lowest speed possible, I believe 1x. I'm using Memorex RW for media. I also verified the disc with ImgBurn. Would there be a specific media I could try?
  13. I just recently completed a DVD that includes WinXP Pro and a silent install of Office 2003. The ISO tested positively in Virtual Box. However, when I used Image Burn to burn to DVD and to use the disc, my Desktop PC would not begin the install. I inserted the DVD and restarted the PC, entered BIOS and booted from cd/dvd. The light on the drive just blinked and never began the install. When I insert the DVD on my Desktop PC, it does not show as an installable volume. It only showed as the letter for the disk drive. However, when I insert the disc in my laptop it shows as an installable volume. I really don't want to use this for my laptop, but rather for my desktop PC. Any ideas why the DVD will not install?? I have not tried using nLite to burn the ISO. Not sure why that would matter?? Thanks, Mobes Summary: PLOP worked for me to be able to boot from USB when BIOS did not support. Easy to use. Also, see My link that continues Win XP and Office install from USB using Multiboot USB.
  14. I just recently finished a WinXP Pro SP3, Office SP3 nLite image. I did utilize removing components and I'm trying to resolve 3 issues: I would like to minimize the install time but want to make sure I include things I need. 1. Cannot run Windows Update - Mssg - did not have required files asking to install cd. 2. Internet Explorer does not seem to be configured. The Icon in the Start menu is the generic Icon that takes you to Internet properties. 3. Windows firewall will not run. Internet Connection Services is missing... Is this important if I intend to download another Firewall? Can I add on something like Zonealarm Free edition? Pls see attached Last Session. Thanks Mobes LAST SESSION.INI
  15. Thanks GrofLuigi! It was due to the Net Adapter not being set correctly in VirtualBox. Mobes
  16. Can someone help me to determine what I removed during nLite that is not allowing an Internet connection? I'm testing the ISO using VirtualBox. I only have a Local Area Connection that shows in Network Connections. I'm attaching my Last Session. Thanks LAST SESSION.INI
  17. SUCCESS!! I finally mastered it! I went back through my Unattended.mst and realized that I never added my product key! I would like to thank SpoiledBrat for putting up with me. Is there a way to edit the title of this post? Maybe would be more helpful if more appropriately titled. Mobes
  18. I just tried this again with the following batch.cmd. REM Office 2003 start /wait %Source%$OEM$\office2003\SETUPPRO.exe TRANSFORMS=unattended.mst /qn shutdown -r -t 70 -c "Restarting in..." -f The Windows installation works fine and this time I did not get an error: Could not locate.... It restarted after 70 seconds, but did not install Office. Could there be anything in my unattended.mst that is not right?? Just so I'm clear on this, the Windows installation CD (Virtual Box) is the Source, right? My windows installation ISO includes all Windows files and Office files which includes the unattended mst.
  19. Is the object to launch Setuppro.exe from the CD or from the copied files on my hard drive? What am I trying to target? I have the Office files copied in my $OEM$ folder. My Unattended.mst is also here. Is the batch command supposed to point to Setuppro.exe in this folder or the cd?? I REALLY want to get this. Thanks!
  20. Thanks. Here is the contents of Autorun. Setuppro is at the root of the cd. [autorun] OPEN=setuppro.EXE /AUTORUN ICON=setuppro.EXE,1 shell\configure=&Configure... shell\configure\command=setuppro.EXE shell\install=&Install... shell\install\command=setuppro.EXE Here is what I just tried in my Batch.cmd and it did not work. It could not find the file. What would be the correct path? REM Office 2003 start /wait %Source%$OEM$\SETUPPRO.exe TRANSFORMS=unattended.mst /qn shutdown -r -t 70 -c "Restarting in..." -f Thanks
  21. Here's mine. I don't have a Setup.exe listed. thanks
  22. Anymore help with this?
  23. Ok. Just ran it and as Windows booted an error message popped "Windows cannot find D:\$OEM$\Office2003\Setup.exe". I searched the CD and there is not a Setup.exe. I did find in OWC10 the Setup bootstrapper that appears to be the Office files and in OWC11 another Setup that appears to contain the Office components. What I should do from here? Thanks Mobes LAST SESSION.INI
  24. Thank you K. SpoiledBrat, Here's the attached image I believe you wanted. Let me know if there's anything else. Thanks nLiteSource.doc
  25. SpoiledBrat, Got a pic for you. I am on a laptop and forgot about the Fn Key! Let me know if you need more info. Ok. Just realized the attachment is too large. How can I it get to you?
