German lawyer demands Linus Torvalds drop Linux name Updated Brand name has expired, claim By INQUIRER staff: Friday 04 April 2003, 12:38 A REPORT IN a German magazine said that a lawyer has asked Linus Torvalds to drop the use of the brand name Linux. The report, in c't magazine, said that Baron Gunther Freiherr von Gravenreuth has demanded that the brand name be dropped because under German laws trademarks expire in Germany. According to him, the trademark was registered in Germany on the 15th of February 1995, so the trademark is now out of date. The report said that von Gravenreuth did not question Torvald's contribution to software development, but questioned whether the trademark was categorised under the right division of the trade mark law. The magazine said that the lawyer is still waiting for a response from Torvalds and his lawyers. You might think this an April Fools joke. But it's the 4th of April here and in Germany right now. These pictures here illustrate how CRM can aid in the escalation of trouble tickets for an internet service provider or other such areas. Notice how each e-mail is given a CRM ticket and an escalation priority

Linux is a decient Operating System, but to be perfectly honest, it cannot touch base where Microsoft domineers -- the client workstation will always belong to Microsoft. Wether UNIX and it's variants/derivitives/relatives show-up is probably going to be near the server end of things. And the introduction of .NET framework will allow .NET products from Microsoft to interact with Linux.NET applications/databases as well. While .NET is NOT a solution to JAVA, it is at least a viable idea to try developing under, as it may become the standard in the near future.

I'd also like to add that you will be seeing a large influx of CRM into the Office Systems technologies such as Outlook, Word and PowerPoint, these will allow management to interact with people on the payroll level and visa-versa for the payroll employees to interact with their customers. CRM has also gone through some various name changes. It was originally titled .NET Relationship Management. There will be a software server for CRM to interact with CRM enabled software/applicatons/documents etc, but this will be later on in the Q4 of this year or Q1 next year.

Microsoft Business Solutions Customer Relationship Management "Microsoft CRM". This new product supports and somewhat automates and eases the CRM strategies of midscale business by helping them build lasting and profitable relationships with their most important clients and customers. The solution enables these businesses to take advantage of technology and related services that were previously reserved for large enterprises with big IT budgets. Microsoft CRM offers an up-to-the-minute view of all interactions from initial lead through lifetime customer history. Featuring an intuitive user interface, Microsoft CRM is accessible both as a browser-based application and through Microsoft Outlook. Sales teams have integrated, up-to-date information, facilitating better work in team environments, increasing efficiency and ultimately improving the customer experience. Customer service employees are armed with a solution that helps meet a greater number of service agreements and provides higher customer satisfaction. Microsoft CRM is the first Microsoft business application built on the Microsoft .NET infrastructure, facilitating a simpler connection of disparate systems and enhancing integration with external Web services such as credit checking, analytics and marketing automation services that extend the core functionality of the solution. The flexibility built into Microsoft CRM allows midmarket businesses to determine the degree to which they want to automate and share information across their organizations. Microsoft CRM is a new and somewhat interesting product, which a few key note features enabled in Office Systems 2003. You may notice you can install/enable CRM onto an outgoing e-mail so that only certain priorities can read it, well; this is useful if you have a scumbag sniffing your e-mails on the corporate level and spreading them down through the company. With CRM, only those who SHOULD have access to certain rights, have access. I will do an article later on what Digital Rights Management "DRM" is and how it works, but for now; I think you get the basic concept of .NET infrastructures and what CRM can do for businesses.

Mostly because Europeans buy whatever Americans and Chinese do anyway (SERIOUSLY) so it doesn't really matter, if it does well in the Asian/American markets, it does well everywhere else, except for ME, the polish love that thing

I'll be PERFECTLY honest. And this is ONLY because it's about 1am. IIS is a friggan death trap, if you don't continuously monitor/patch/secure the **** thing it will cause you hell, it will set fire to your home, steal all your possessions and eat your children. So lock your doors; board your "Windows" because IIS could be coming to a knowledge base near you soon!

Yes, if you read the documentation that came WITH your Beta:2 kit, it will describe that an ideal enviroment for testing out Office Systems 2003, is either Windows 2000+ServicePack3(Or Latest) or Windows Server 2003, these OS's can make high quality use of the .NET framework. Although WindowsXP has .NET framework; it leaves much to be desired in the realm of stability and .NET communication so I can only guess this is why the test group would instruct you to do this.

There is alot of problems as previous stated with the "BX" or Bitched X as we call them here. Your best resource is probably to either contact your manufacturer or OEM and ask them. Also please try to check-out http://www.bxboards.com they are a good resource for BXboards and their chips.

I would strongly urge that you upgrade to the 9 series Windows Media Player and see if there is a noticable difference in quality. If you are still experiencing the problem, post back. Also, when posting problems like that, try to give a better description of your Sound Card, what media you are trying to play; what type of media file it is, and what codecs if ANY you have install windows %SYSTEMROOT%/SYSTEM32 that may help out alot.

With the Beta 1 release of McAfee PortalShield v1.0, PortalShield will support Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 and the Beta 2 release of Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server "v2.0" and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0. McAfee PortalShield has a quick and easy installation and is designed to protect you SharePoint installation from viruses and bad content from the moment you install it. Important information about this beta release can be found in the accompanying readme file. Issues and feedback can be directed to: PortalShield_Beta@nai.com. Additional details on the configuration of the Anti-Virus feature in the Beta 2 SharePoint Portal Server "v2.0" and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 can be found in the Windows SharePoint Services Beta 2 Administrator's Guide at http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/assist...nce/default.asp Note: The following known issues are present in the Beta 2 release (fixed for RTM) of SharePoint Portal Server "v2.0" and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Antivirus feature: All scans timeout after a single scanning timeout occurs Workaround: Requires IISReset to When a scanner version has changed (updated) it isn’t automatically picked up by the server Workaround: Requires IISReset for server to recognize latest version Infected files saved to server root are not scanned when opened in Application Note: This affects files not saved directly through standard SharePoint upload mechanisms (i.e. not saved to a document library) Uninstalling the McAfee scanner deletes the AV registry key and blocks any scanner from being installed ever again Solution: After you uninstall the McAfee scanner and before you install another scanner you must manually create the AVScanner registry key (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\AVScanner) and add <MACHINENAME>\STS_WPG with Full Control permission to the key. Then install the new scanner. Thank You, The Microsoft Office and Office Family Teams

As with many Microsoft Alpha/Beta Operating Systems, these things may not work as advertised, work properly OR *work at all* if you can at least get LongHorn to complete installation and run then you are already ahead of the game. Things don't run right on LongHorn? That's the fact of life, nothing will run as advertised on LongHorn or at all -- It's just *THAT* good still ;P
