  1. Greetings, does anyone know if there is something like an autostart-scheduler out there...? It seems my "videocard-background-programs" like nwiz, or NvMediaCenter, or NvCplDaemon (it's a GF4 Ti) don't harmonize with something else in the autostart... because sometimes while win loads all its autostart-progs the monitor turms black but doesn't come back (instead the monitor shows an out-of -range message). Usually it's something like a refresh-flicker and everything becomes visible again. (...btw. is this flicker normal?!?) As far as I know the order of the autostart isn't really constant, right?!? So since this bug only occurs randomly (at least to me) I guess the order is the important thing to look at here.. Those programs seem to manage the graphics-memory or something like that, cause without them for example firefox isn't showing webpages correctly, and everything is slow until even some windows-graphics become all messed-up!!! For now I kind of reload the needed videocard-programs by accessing the nvidea-"controlcenter" (this produces the mentioned monitor-refresh). And the rest works as well.. Does this sound familiar to someone or is there any (other) solution?!? Bye Flipp
  2. Hey, remember the 16bit-Icon-bug (some icons had black edges in 32bit-mode, but the regtweak did it's job...) ??! I found a minor bug like this... some small icons, like the folder-icon of a windows title-bar still have those edges.. Could you or anyone tell me some places in the reg to look at please?!? Bye Flipp
  3. Hey, there is this powerful CAD-Software... ( http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/solidedge/forms/solid_edge_free_2d_response.shtml ) ...but I can't make it install on my pc. Would you guys please give it a try as well and report your results?! Is there any hope to make it run on a win98se (+everything unofficial) ?? For those who are interested: "Draft It 3" works (min winME-mode at installer, disable KEX for program) "Cademia" ...java...is nice...
  4. Thx, setting "-setDX" worked!!... (and after having done this, it even worked without it, but is slower, -why?!) Is this a general bug with openGL? To me it seems that the 3d-graphics-window is just not refreshed when using openGL!!! (sometimes, when mini- & maximizing the program, or on right-clicks it is refreshed, that why I think so...). Another prog seems to behave just like this, called apophysis.. so is it my fault, or what to do?! ...but I get this after quitting Google Earth: ----- GOOGLEEARTH verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite in Modul KERNEL32.DLL bei 0177:bff9dc19. Register: EAX=c0030948 CS=0177 EIP=bff9dc19 EFLGS=00010216 EBX=02f9ffbc SS=017f ESP=02e9fefc EBP=02ea0198 ECX=00000000 DS=017f ESI=00000000 FS=6ec7 EDX=bff76855 ES=017f EDI=bff79050 GS=0000 Bytes bei CS:EIP: 53 8b 15 e4 dc fc bf 56 89 4d e4 57 89 4d dc 89 Stapelwerte: ----- ...why's that?
  5. Hey, are you using such a graphics-card??? If so then please respond.. From time to time I find some programs not working on my machine, as they sould actually do.. -Apophysis ( http://www.apophysis.org/downloads.html ) ---java-version works, but is slow -EMachineShop ( http://www.emachineshop.com/ ) -Google Earth 5.1 ( http://www.google.com/earth/index.html ) --grab the standalone installer (on dl-page select "advaned setup", uncheck "...automatic updates") and unzip it... Nothing I tried worked... Plz could you test these programs, and tell me your results and the drivers you are using?!? Might it be hardware or software related...?!? Is it a bug or is the graphics-card known for these problems (actually not to me ) ?! Or what do these programs have in commen?? I'm confused a little... so any held is appreciated. Bye
  6. Btw. How did you actually install Earth??? The web-installer doesn't even start (KEX: min. w2000-mode) and the standalone versions 5.1 & 5.2 load (the installer?! even twice..) but then a message appears telling me that it couldn't access some win-installer-services and that this might happen if win runs in save-mode (..I don't). I just unpacked the installer with 7-zip and found the program, but when I run it, it just crashes after a few seconds.. is there another way?? bye
  7. Uuhh, a new design... ...but actually I recently found a program that refuses to work... It's a kind of free modular audio system (I couldn't try it jet..) called Usine ( http://www.sensomusic.com/download/ ). (no install necessary!) I have a win98se + everything. The error-message tells something like this: "The File USINEMAIN.EXE is linked to the missing Export-KERNEL32.DLL:GetSystemTimes." Could anyone try this? And is possible to fix it?? Greets
  8. Hey, It seems there is a minor bug with the new KEX and vlc (1.1.4). Some fonts became way too small.. For example the vol.-numbers and the fonts of the equalizer (nearly not readable). Bye
  9. In short: Yeah, nice one! As usual... Just wanted to underline that you "fanbase" is bigger than the DL-count on SF, since it didn't raise as I downloaded the file either...
  10. Hey, I just discovered a small bug that makes "Pure Data" crash. I dont know if it has something to do with KEX, but at least with win98...I guess. Is there anyone using "Pure Data" anyways?? Well this is how to reproduce it: Start "Pd" -> open new patch -> right-click, select "Properties" -> mark "graph on parent" -> apply -> unmark "graph on parent" -> apply -> aaaand crash! And this is what's been put out: PD verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite in Modul PD.DLL bei 0177:67342613. 11. ..its not too late.. Thanks that worked, roughly.. One has to delete the ",00" in the "path1"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,00,2f,00, 46,00,6f,00,6e,00,74,00,73,00,00,00 -path, to make it compatible again..
  12. Hello everyone, I was just wondering if there is a way to "compile" incompatible regfiles (intended to work on newer WIN-OSes) for win98se (+KEX etc.) ?!? Maybe even a program, that does this job??! Or even better, is there a way to make the registry compatible to new files...?!? Here is an example regfile from "Pure Data" that doesn't work: " Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pd-extended] "flags"="" "loadlib1"="libdir" "loadlib2"="Gem" "loadlib3"="cyclone" "loadlib4"="zexy" "loadlib5"="creb" "loadlib6"="cxc" "loadlib7"="iemlib" "loadlib8"="list-abs" "loadlib9"="mapping" "loadlib10"="markex" "loadlib11"="maxlib" "loadlib12"="memento" "loadlib13"="mjlib" "loadlib14"="motex" "loadlib15"="oscx" "loadlib16"="pddp" "loadlib17"="pdogg" "loadlib18"="pixeltango" "loadlib19"="pmpd" "loadlib20"="rradical" "loadlib21"="sigpack" "loadlib22"="smlib" "loadlib23"="toxy" "loadlib24"="unauthorized" "loadlib25"="vbap" "loadlib26"="pan" "loadlib27"="hcs" "loadlib28"="jmmmp" "loadlib29"="ext13" "loadlib30"="ggee" "loadlib31"="iem_anything" "loadlib32"="flib" "loadlib33"="ekext" "loadlib34"="flatspace" "nloadlib"=34 ; delete any previous loadlib flags "loadlib35"=- "loadlib36"=- "loadlib37"=- "loadlib38"=- "loadlib39"=- "loadlib40"=- "loadlib41"=- "loadlib42"=- "loadlib43"=- "loadlib44"=- "loadlib45"=- "loadlib46"=- "loadlib47"=- "loadlib48"=- "loadlib49"=- "loadlib50"=- "loadlib51"=- "loadlib52"=- "loadlib53"=- "loadlib54"=- "loadlib55"=- "loadlib56"=- "loadlib57"=- "loadlib58"=- "loadlib59"=- "loadlib60"=- "loadlib61"=- "loadlib62"=- "loadlib63"=- "loadlib64"=- "loadlib65"=- "loadlib66"=- "loadlib67"=- "loadlib68"=- "loadlib69"=- "loadlib70"=- "loadlib71"=- "loadlib72"=- "loadlib73"=- "loadlib74"=- "loadlib75"=- "loadlib76"=- "loadlib77"=- "loadlib78"=- "loadlib79"=- "loadlib80"=- "loadlib81"=- "loadlib82"=- "loadlib83"=- "loadlib84"=- "loadlib85"=- "loadlib86"=- "loadlib87"=- "loadlib88"=- "loadlib89"=- "loadlib90"=- "loadlib91"=- "loadlib92"=- "loadlib93"=- "loadlib94"=- "loadlib95"=- "loadlib96"=- "loadlib97"=- "loadlib98"=- "loadlib99"=- "loadlib100"=- "path1"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,00,2f,00,46,00,6f,00,6e,00,74,00,73,00,00,00 "npath"=1 ; delete all existing path flags "path2"=- "path3"=- "path4"=- "path5"=- "path6"=- "path7"=- "path8"=- "path9"=- "path10"=- "path11"=- "path12"=- "path13"=- "path14"=- "path15"=- "path16"=- "path17"=- "path18"=- "path19"=- "path20"=- "path21"=- "path22"=- "path23"=- "path24"=- "path25"=- "path26"=- "path27"=- "path28"=- "path29"=- "path30"=- "path31"=- "path32"=- "path33"=- "path34"=- "path35"=- "path36"=- "path37"=- "path38"=- "path39"=- "path40"=- "path41"=- "path42"=- "path43"=- "path44"=- "path45"=- "path46"=- "path47"=- "path48"=- "path49"=- "path50"=- "path51"=- "path52"=- "path53"=- "path54"=- "path55"=- "path56"=- "path57"=- "path58"=- "path59"=- "path60"=- "path61"=- "path62"=- "path63"=- "path64"=- "path65"=- "path66"=- "path67"=- "path68"=- "path69"=- "path70"=- "path71"=- "path72"=- "path73"=- "path74"=- "path75"=- "path76"=- "path77"=- "path78"=- "path79"=- "path80"=- "path81"=- "path82"=- "path83"=- "path84"=- "path85"=- "path86"=- "path87"=- "path88"=- "path89"=- "path90"=- "path91"=- "path92"=- "path93"=- "path94"=- "path95"=- "path96"=- "path97"=- "path98"=- "path99"=- "path100"=- ; delete all existing path flags " ..quite long.. 13. Thanks Tihiy for the Pure Data hint. I just had to set a path for "appdata" likewise, and it works I think. At least it starts... (Btw. is there anything else to add to the autoexec.bat??) @WaltMG: I use the default-mode on the installer.. and in short I can't confirm this.. I'd generally advise you to use the MS-program "Process Explorer v11.33". It helped me to handle stuck programs quite often.. Btw. : Is it correct that FF 3.6.x and Java don't go together??? (Like FF 3.6.x & classic Java plugin don't harmonize and nextGen Java & Win98 don't work together either) At least FF 3.6.x didn't recognize the classic plugin.. Bye Flipp
  14. Hey, Since I have no clue about this, I wanted to ask you guys how hard it is to compile some source-code of those open-source programs ?! Isn't this a way to get rid of all the problems?? Actually I never dealt with compiling, I just can try to replace some files with others, if the program is not working... So is this possible for programs like "Pure Data" for example?! Btw. How is this done on linux (if not working on win) and is there a free (win-like) version of linux out there, I should install?? Bye Flipp
  15. Hello everyone, recently I found a new program and new problems. But they appear not to be so "hardcore".. The program is called "Pure Data" (Pd), a free modular audio-, video- and everything-environment. ( http://puredata.info/ ) I tried 2 versions: "0.43 test3" (~4Mb) a slim version without "externals". This simply works (at least as far as I tested). And the official version "0.42.5-externals" (~30Mb). This is the full package.. ...But this version uses a "startup script" and this is where the error occurs.. To me it seems that the script just searches for some paths that are not there in win98se or in the reg; but this is just one possibility since I don't know what exactly is going on there. This is the error-message: __________________________________________________ "Error in startup script" no such variable (read trace on "::env(CommonProgramFiles)") invoked from within "set externalsdir "$::env(CommonProgramFiles)/Pd"" invoked from within "if {$tcl_platform(platform)=="windows"} { set pd_nt 1 set ctrl_key "Control" # fonts set defaultFontFamily {DejaVu Sans Mono} ..." (file "E:\Pure Data\bin\pd.tk" line 15) ___________________________________________________ It's actually a great program but it's not working for me. Can someone please try this as well?!? Does anyone know how to handle this, to get it working?!?!? Greets Flipp
  16. Okay, here is one more bug I found in Gimp. I hope it is the last one... But it's a rather big bug making the Gimp crash.. It appears from version 2.6.8 to "now", those are the versions where you have to replace the libgio-2.0-0.dll... Version 2.6.7 is ok. And this is how to produce it: Open a new drawing. Just below the painting-area is a "zoom-menu". Just try ,lets say, 67(%) and hit enter. Tadaaa, a crash. And this is what it returns (in win2000-mode): GIMP-2 führte eine ungültige Anweisung in <--"an invalid instruction" Modul GIMP-2.6.EXE bei 0177:00726294 aus. Register: EAX=00000000 CS=0177 EIP=00726294 EFLGS=00010287 EBX=00000000 SS=017f ESP=010bee70 EBP=ffffffe2 ECX=00000003 DS=017f ESI=00000064 FS=584f EDX=0073be48 ES=017f EDI=00000010 GS=0000 Bytes bei CS:EIP: 66 0f d6 84 24 b8 00 00 00 0f 4e 7c 24 64 df ac Stapelwerte: 01baf900 010d0088 03b008bc ffffffff 010bee64 010beec4 7d00968c 010d0084 03b007b4 00000000 00000040 050f8bb6 2a52074a 0000017f 000000a2 00000002 Can this be solved somehow?!? And, of course, can someone confirm that?! I just noticed that this doesn't occur in the japanese version ( http://en.sourceforge.jp/projects/gimp-painter/releases/ ). It runs fine and readable.. One doesn't even have to do the "libgio-2.0-0.dll"-trick. But instead there is a 4-number-code where a space should be in the "zoom-menu". I guess this can be solved easily, but I don't know how..
  17. I'll try that soon. I have found another small bug.. when selecting the "brush-tool" -> "brushdynamics" there is a table, but the "headlines" are missing. There should be a diagonal text, instead it is empty space.. Is this "normal" ?!? Btw. have you ever tried to use the "sparkle-filter" on a blank (white) sheet?! -And does it crash (or at least become so slow, that windows wants to end it)?! So for me: "Don't use this if one has too much white applied."
  18. Thanks, this helped. Although the install and theme-configuration was a little "buggy". It even workts with the new Gimp-version. 1) Install gimp 2.6.10 2) Replace gimps "libgio-2.0-0.dll" with the one from "inkscape 0.47" <--zip (or use the one from gimp 2.6.7) 3) Download & install a theme-pack ( http://gimper.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=626&sid=b49d176ef45bf5fd66d0dbb3578044ac ) -It might not install in the right place but in c:\"progs"\gimp2.0 <- just move those folders to your gimp-folder. 4)Set the "Gimpthemes-v1.0.exe" and the "gimp-2.6.exe" to win2000-mode 5)Start "Gimpthemes-v1.0.exe" and wait... ...longer... 6)There should be a "theme-browser"-thing now. Select a theme and don't mind if the program hangs!! Leave it like it is.. 7)Just start the gimp and enjoy your new theme ...and checkboxes!! -Maybe quit the gimp: this should release the "theme-browser" finally so you can click "okay" there. Greets Flipp
  19. First of all, thanks for the old version, loblo. It seems to work.. But I just recognized a little bug in the GIMP (v2.4.0 to v2.6.10). I simply have no checkboxes!!! That's rather unhandy if you want to ..check something. Can someone plz confirm this or the opposite?!? ..Any I thought the program would just flawlessly work... Bye
  20. Yeah! Thanks for this trick. Now the newest version of the Gimp runs smoothly. Even the text-tool works after I downloaded the "dejavusans.ttf"-font (I don't know why Gimp doesn't contain it if it needs it..). But how did you know that one has to replace exactly the "libgio-2.0-0.dll" with the old one from Gimp 2.6.7 ?? ...but thats not the only thing... I've found another program that refuses to work even it is said to work on win98... It is "Context Free Art" ...an art-program... It looks interesting, but I can't try it.. ( http://www.contextfreeart.org/mediawiki/index.php/Download_page ) There is a stand-alone-version, so you don't have to install anything. Can someone plz try this?!? The error occurs in both versions, the stand-alone and the installer. Maybe RP or KEX itself, the nv8269, or something from mdgx, I don't know, that's just an idea.
  21. Thx, but in my case Gimp2.2 and the new KEX just work fine together. (Maybe use the right GDI+-version, if it doesn't work) Gimp 2.4 even runs (win2000-mode), but if I click the "text-tool" the program crashes without leaving any message. Why is that?! Am I missing some (new Xp-) fonts?! About Apophysis: In short, I have tried every compability-mode. No success.. I downloaded older versions and noticed that version 2.04 works correctly. The guys seem to have changed the renderer after that version.. and some gui-things as well. Anyways, it should work... Can someone try this plz?!? There even is no need to install it!!! ---> (http://sourceforge.net/projects/apophysis/) If you don't see an hourglass, but a randomly rendered picture, it works...for you..
  22. Hey, First: I don't have real problems with RC2 either. Does anybody know about the last GIMP version that works with KEX?!? I tried 2.6.0 with KEX-compabilities (in this case "XP-mode"), since I somewhere read that it should work. At least it starts, thats more version 2.4.x does. But when it is loading it stucks nearly before being finished. The GIMP dialog translated says: "Searching for workfiles: Documents". And a win-message appears: GIMP-2 verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite in Modul <Unbekannt> bei 0000:00000009. And there is another program that doesn't seem to work correctly. There was a thread about it, but I can't find it anymore.. It's "Apophysis 2" (www.apophysis.org), a fractal-art-generator. It should even work natively on win98! The guy of that thread had the same problem as I do: After the program is loaded the "rendering-window" just shows an hourglass. Although I can even switch the backgroundcolor and -transparency, the hourglass remains there and nothing is rendered. And it seems that I can't even render pictures to th hdd. Preview just works fine. Furthermore there is a java-version of this program that simply works! Maybe someone with the same problems is around here..?! Any help is appreciated. Bye Flipp
  23. It's a win98se "4.10.2222" with KEX (RC3), "win98 sp3" and other stuff from mdgx like "auto-patcher". And RP is version 9.6.6! I use the unofficial nv8269 graphics-driver. Anything else??
  24. I'm sorry.... I just restarted my machine, and it works... The reg-tweak did its job. This is the order: 1) Set 32bit-icons in RP9 2) apply: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Icon BPP: "32" (since it becomes "16" after "1)" ) 3) ...RESTART... Thats it!!! Couldn't you place a notice at the first, sticky topic?? Since I'm not the only one, and in the past I had to solve this problem, by some wired installing and uninstalling of RP9 and my graphics-drivers... Yet it's so easy if one knows what to do... 25. Heyho, in short, it didn't help. I also checked the reg-entries posted in the link (http://www.msfn.org/...665#entry855665). But I noticed that, when switching to 32bit-icons in RP, the entry: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Icon BPP" becomes "16" ..!?!
