Hi fizban2, much grateful to you for sharing steps. Most important things I learnt was it has to be in root dirand has to be named autounattended.xml The method is pretty straigh forward and I like it. One mod I had to do was getting rid of "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>" otherwise xml will not parse. I am trying my best to get it working in VMware. Like you said, it doesn't seem to like loading Vista DVD from ISO image and it continuously gives this error: for everything I have tried: 1. mounted ISO directly in VMware 2. mounted ISO in Real PC and told VMware to use that as a CDROM with 1. <Path>G:\sources\install.wim</Path> (VMware CDROM drive letter in my case is G:) 2. <Path>X:\sources\install.wim</Path> Thats's four combinations of tests and all fail to load in VMware. I have faith that this will work in a Real PC but trying everything to load properly in VMware first. Interesting project. Cheers, McoreD

Hi, Great program. Please see my PM for a LUA issue. Cheers, McoreD

Awesome. Thanks fizban2. Although you call it as old fashioned way, it is not the winnt.sif way, right? All I know is that it is something to do with unattended.xml and I am not sure where to put it because there is no I386 folder anymore. Really looking forward to your guide.

Got the User guide. Looking for what ddebacker mentioned. Thanks, McoreD

Can you please provide me a download link for it? Surprisingly I can't seem to find the link easily. How come it is not available in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/downloads.mspx ? Thanks in advance.

I've been scratching my head for weeks trying to find out where to download Windows SIM because it is not there in Vista default installation. The instructions asks us to : Open Windows SIM by clicking Start, All Programs, Microsoft Windows AIK, and then clicking Image Manager. Any clue guys? Much appreciated.

The way I have set up XP is having D:\WINDOWS E:\Applications F:\Users To get this behavior in Vista, I gues I have to follow this page: https://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvi...3dd53bc3fa.mspx In there it says Open Windows SIM by clicking Start, All Programs, Microsoft Windows AIK, and then clicking Image Manager. which means I have to first install Vista in a test machine. It would've been pretty cool if we could create Vista unattended DVDs straightaway from XP.

Windows unattended have strong problem
McoreD replied to nlp156's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Do you have ProfilesDir in another partition? That paritition might not be formatted. The way I have it: I install Windows to C:\ and format E:\ & F:\ Then I use my custom Windows CD with following winnt.sif to install in D:\ ProgramFilesDir="E:\Applications" CommonProgramFilesDir="E:\Applications\Common Files" ProfilesDir="F:\Users\" -
UA Registry Tweakage DOTNET (0.4 Released)
McoreD replied to Mike_Wilson's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Would be nice if it was open source so we could all contribute. -
Thanks for the MS Knowledgebase article on this sfetaz. I had the same exact problem today and had no idea until I checked this thread out. Yes, it's too bad there is no option in Legacy Windows setups to format more than one drive. Nice to see Windows Vista setup can do this. I managed to format the partitions using UBCD's Paragon Partition Manager. It has a GUI and from what I see, it loads under Windows 3.1 RAM enviroment.

Okay guys I have created an unattend.xml file but I am not sure of such a simple thing like where to place it in the ISO. In XP it was winnt.sif in I386 but in Vista can somebody please tell where? Thanks, McoreD

"Copy/Move To Twice! ?s After Install"
McoreD replied to TheBlackMan's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I agree! It's a wise thing to remove it. Although it does a nice job I have noticed it has annoyed me several times. Took me time to realize what was causing the problem. In a system where this regtweak is done, if you double click a Star Menu program folder, you will get Move To and Copy To both executed. Pretty weird. Cheers, McoreD -
Hey guys, I was trying to install Windows Media Services in Windows XP. You need to have Windows Server 2003 CD. (Trial: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003...l/default.mspx) Step 1: Add the following under [Components] in %WINDIR%\inf\sysoc.inf wms=wmsocm.dll,OcEntry,wmsocm.inf,,3 Step 2: Copy wmsocm.inf in Server 2003 CD\I386 to %WINDIR%\inf Step 3: Copy wmsocm.dll in Server 2003 CD\I386 to %WINDIR%\system32\setup Now load Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components Windows Media Services should now show up in the list. Tick that and You will need the Windows Server 2003 CD to proceed installation. You will get an initialization error during the installation. Just cancel that and it will finish installing. Now one problem. The Windows Media Services service is not added to Windows Services. We need to get this figured and then we should be able to use Windows Services in Windows XP. If you are interested in this project this is something for you to try in your freetime. Cheers, McoreD

Usually upgrading to SP1 is not the preferred method. I know it is allowed. This might have not happened to you if you slipstreamed SP1 to your Server 2003 CD and did a clean install.

For Unattended XP Installation: You really don't have to mess with all these registry entries and Windows File Protection. Like some guys have pointed out before, replacing the NOTEPAD.EX_ in I386 folder should do the job. If you find makecab, extract all that hard, I have put the files here: http://microsoftusernetwork.com/mcored/res.../unattended.htm Cheers, McoreD

Exactly! The ISO is about 835 MB and you just have to burn it to a 99 min CD. That's all. (The way I did it).

If Windows Messenger is installed with Windows XP, then MSN Messenger should be possible to slipstream I think. Time to compare WM files and MSNM files.

In RunOnceEx.cmd you just go: REG ADD %KEY%\010 /VE /D "Unregistering ZIP" /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /V 1 /D "regsvr32 /s /u zipfldr.dll" /f
