  1. I've tried blocking some websites by adding them to my hosts file. However, for some reason it's stopped working. (i.e The websites are still working even though I have re-routed them to the local host) I've used the usual method: E.g. 127.0.0.1 runescape.com Is there any reason the file isn't doing what it should be?
  2. *Spits out Coke in Frustration!* OK, now I am baffled. I have tested this on numerous machines and it was working fine. However, I have had complaints that it is still not working on some machines. So I have had a look. I've taken 2 screenshots. Both machines are HPDC7600's, both are identical in spec, both have been created using the same RIS image. However, these are the results: What could be causing the wrong "detection" so to speak?
  3. How would I go about implementing this? i.e How do I prestage the client machine accounts?
  4. I don't think you've understood properly. It gives me that message during the POST and boot up. Not when I am in Windows. The majority of those articles say to change the resolution or refresh rate. I am already using the optimal of 1280x1024 @ 75Mhz. How do I change the settings during the POST?
  5. I have my Acer Ferrari F-19 setup using a DVI input. Whenever I switch on my PC, as it is going through the POST, when I access the BIOS and during Windows boot up, I have a message in the screen saying "Input Not Support". It goes away once booted into Windows, but it's a pain when I wanna access the BIOS. It doesn't show the message at all when I use a VGA input. Any ideas what could be causing this?
  6. It's fixed! This Utility basically gives you a work around. But I've tested it on 5 machines and it works wonders. The name (USB Drive Letter Manager) makes you think it's not related, but it works! Phew... Thank you, jaclaz, for all your help anyway, maybe we can have that coke now!
  7. OK, didn't work... I've spoken to a few people having the same problem on another forum and everyone keeps mentioning that it has something to do with unsigned drivers, however, I'm just totally confused because I've got this problem with almost all USB flash drives.
  8. Right, I'm gonna give ntrights a try and hope for the best!
  9. I think you'll find that .exe does that anyway. I've looked at the script: ;AllowUSBJumpDrives.au3 ;Created by Jeremy Mlazovsky If IsAdmin ( ) = 0 Then MsgBox ( 0+48+262144, 'Uh oh!', 'You need to have administrator-level access to run this utility!' ) Exit EndIf Dim $file = 'C:\Windows\inf\usbstor.inf' Dim $group $group = 'Power Users' SplashTextOn ( $group, 'Updating permissions for the file' & @CRLF & $file & ' to' & @CRLF & 'Modify, Read and Execute, Read, Write!', 300, 75 ) RunWait ( 'cacls ' & $file & ' /E /G "' & $group & '":R', '',@SW_HIDE ) RunWait ( 'cacls ' & $file & ' /E /G "' & $group & '":W', '',@SW_HIDE ) RunWait ( 'cacls ' & $file & ' /E /G "' & $group & '":C', '',@SW_HIDE ) Sleep ( 2500 ) $group = 'Users' SplashTextOn ( $group, 'Updating permissions for the file' & @CRLF & $file & ' to' & @CRLF & 'Modify, Read and Execute, Read, Write!', 300, 75 ) RunWait ( 'cacls ' & $file & ' /E /G "' & $group & '":R', '', @SW_HIDE ) RunWait ( 'cacls ' & $file & ' /E /G "' & $group & '":W', '', @SW_HIDE ) RunWait ( 'cacls ' & $file & ' /E /G "' & $group & '":C', '', @SW_HIDE ) Sleep ( 2500 ) SplashOff() MsgBox ( 0+262144, @ScriptName, 'Users and Power Users should now be able to install USB Flash drives!', 10 ) Could it be anything to do with Driver Signing? Albeit I have told AD to ignore all instances of Driver Signing.
  10. jaclaz P.S.: IF it does, you owe me a beer Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem, so I'm still searching for a solution...
  11. These are OK, but I prefered the older ones
  12. I just thought I'd make a little request. I'm not as fond of Luna Royale as I am of the original Royale from Microsoft. So I was just wondering if we could have an option in the next version of XPize to choose which one we want to install? Just a suggestion... Zoom7000
  13. I always thought that too, but they haven't threatend raduking and RKLauncher yet. As far as I know, he's a 1 man gang. Brilliant program though, best dock available IMO.
  14. Is it possible to make a computer run RIS from a central location? E.g. At the moment, to rebuild a machine using RIS, you need to boot up the machine, press F12 to boot in from the network, enter Admin credentials, pick the image and press Enter twice. Is there any way to automate this so that you can rebuild computers from a centrally managed location rather than having to physically visit each machine? Zoom7000
  15. Erm... Y'z dock is not in beta, it has been discontinued a long time ago because the author was given a "Cease and Desist" order by Apple. I think it may also be a violation of the MSFN TOS to distribute it in any format. So you might wanna remove your link.
  16. Well I'm pretty baffled too, it is a domain machine and they're all pretty standard so I might just run RIS on it, kill it and start afresh. I need to test my updated image anyway. Oh well, I'm just glad it hasn't happened on my home machine.
  17. I just gave both of these a whiz, and no improvement whatsoever. Any other ideas?
  18. Well, I did recently install WMP11 in the hope that it would fix the problem. Should this have not fixed the codecs? Also, it does say at the bottom of that page:
  19. I'm gonna give this a try, if it works, then can I get you a coke instead? I don't drink beer!
  20. I regularly listen to BBC Radio 5 Live using their streaming service. However, all of a sudden, WMP gives me total silence! It loads the stream fine and you can see the counter moving along and the stream is playing fine. However, there is no sound whatsoever! It plays using Media Player Classic fine. However, it won't play at all using WMP. It won't even play using the WMP codec in the BBC Radio Player. I've even lost all sound when trying to view streaming videos from the BBC in WMP. The video plays fine, but without sound. It can't be a problem with the BBC, because it works fine on other computers. I've tried upgrading to WMP11 but that hasn't fixed the problem. I'm baffled because everything else plays fine. I can play MP3's and other video clips in WMP fine. Just not streams. I've checked all the usual volume controls, so any ideas?
  21. I think the problem appears to have been resolved. Presumably the freezing was being caused by Alcohol120%. I had just downloaded what was the updated version, and once I had uninstalled it, it has loaded up fine ever since. Thanks for your help anyway cluberti.
  22. Thanks for that mate, I will give it a roll tonight or tomorrow.
  23. My PC is setup to use the fast user switching logon screen. Up until lately it was working absolutely fine. However, in the last few days I have noticed that after a cold boot, the computer boots into Windows and then I get nothing but a mouse pointer in the middle of the screen. The PC still appears to be responding and hasn't exactly crashed, but I don't get anything, no logon screen at all, just the blue background. Ctrl + Alt + Del doesn't do anything either and I have to use the reset button on the machine. It then loads up fine without an issue. So does anyone know what could be causing the initial failure? 24. Just thought I'd mention the latest sighting of nLite in the media. There is a page spread in the latest edition of PC Format Magazine highlighting some of the features and a small tutorial on creating your own nLite-ed CD. So congratulations to Nuhi for making the magazine and for his continued great success with nLite. When I get a chance, I'll post some scans.
  25. Thank you mate, that was just the memory jolt I needed! It was the "Nightly Tester Tool". It has an options for "Use Custom Toolbar" Thanks again!
