I use a 40GB SSD on a Windows 7 Lenovo laptop. It has been working great for 2 years. Here is my setup routine:

Only buy the Professional level SKU's so that you can implement LUA + SRP security ... which everyone should be doing.

Run gpedit.msc * Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Administrative Templates / System / Power Management / Sleep Settings Turn Off Hybrid Sleep (Plugged In) = Enabled Allow Standby States (S1-S3) When Sleeping (Plugged In) = Disabled

I have seen their stuff before but did not know they made a search tool. Over complicated of course so I prefer FileSearchEX for just getting file lists. One thing is certain with 500 and 1000 GB drives we need faster disk access to make all this data management bearable. As soon as I can I am going to get SSD so searching will be so much faster.

Install the Intel chipset and storage drivers. I was having this same issue until I did that.
