  1. I like using netsh but i think in this case we dont need to it, first of all go to your both machines and type ipconfig /release (suppose to get a msg like 0.0.0.0 ), then run this command in both of machines too ipconfig /renew your machines suppose to get a new ip now, in some slight cases you need to clear your address resolution protocol in your machines so you can run this commands it will not make any bad anyway the command is: arp -d (run it in both machines) now ipconfig your machines suppose to find them received IPs from the router DHCP service, next step you have to ping both of machines from each other and ping the router itself if all of them pinged well so we have to move to the next step which is checking the machines if they have firewall enabled then checking the router if it have firewall enabled or not im not sure about your router configuration but if its allowed to be accessed from outside add me to your msn and i could check it for you.

  2. Well, until now i didnt find any feature worth to upgrade my machines to Vista, i have vista runing in a test machine but all what i get is some nice sutff looks alot like Stardock products, no new feature and performance seems sucks even in a new machines, i know that it suppose to be faster in the final code but im still dont think its have a huge improvments or whats force me to upgarde, i know that MS gonna use DirectX 10 as a tool to force people to upgrade to Vista and it will work with gamers who gonna find themselves unable to play the new games in there XP machines, why ?! cause MS dont want to develop DX10 for XP, another why ?! cause they want to sell Vista, thats my opinion until now maybe its change later.

  3. Machine name.

    UPDATE: sorry i remember now you can use:

    net config server /HIDDEN:{YES | NO}

    Which change the Registry value:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters\Hidden

    0 mean show

    1 mean hide

    in case you dont have hidden already create a dowrd value and name it Hidden

  4. I know that XP w/ SP2 is a very capable OS, but up to now, I have not been able to set permissions as I need for point 2).

    To be able to set permissions in Windows XP you need to have your partition formatted as NTFS then you have to uncheck: tools> folder options>View> Use simple file sharing (the latest option down)

  6. Hello :hello:

    Why not make an external drive yourself. All you need is an external case and a HD. Below I listed a couple of references for parts. I did this myself about a year ago, and have had no problems. I listed the Seagate as they have a 5 year warranty. I used to be a hard core Maxtor fanatic until about 2 years ago my drives were failing just after the 3 year warranty was up. Seriously a couple of days or weeks after there was no support.

    I AGREE.

  7. I think its something possible via using Network Monitor, and a software designed to capture packets and make some statistics, but anyway better than the whole of that why you dont use ISA 2000 Enterprise, if you have permission over all machines in the network, or you can use http://www.bandwidthcontroller.com/, i think TAiN Links have alot of better solutions so, but im just telling about the things which i know :).
