  1. Search for my posts on the above, you may have to depend on an older driver but as said above nVidia is friendlier.
  2. I wish you luck, for me I had a bad experience with my first and last eBay mobo in 2008. From now on I'll stick to brick and mortar, either Winntronics in town, or Canada Computers ten minutes away.
  3. Well, this week I'm finishing a PVR [so raw speed not a requirement] with an ASRock VS3 because the 130s with hardware decoding were meant to run on older, forgotten computers, even a 286,though 386 were recommended by the manufacturer. http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.us.asp?Model=N68-VS3%20FX with that Sempron 145 Whilst dreaming of http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1724262&sku=A79-1045&SRCCODE=CANEMBP004&cm_mmc=Email-_-Retro-_-CANEMBP004-_-viewed because at 200 bucks CDN the eight core is out of my budget range, plus since I've moved on to XPP and W7, for me now chipsets may not be a consideration anymore. I only listed the above as it had both an IDE header, for legacy opticals of mine and if not a printer port, at least the header that i can attach a ribbon cable case mount to for my decade old HP 920c, which works just fine thank you. Now on this 2008 ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 ICH7 with a single core 775 P4 (requirement of the MyHD MDP-130) does run the Atheros L2 Ethernet/LAN which was excellent under 2000. The shortcomings was in the P4 series, though faster, wasn't much better than a P3. Hence my "return" to AMD/nVidia. Oddly enough though ASUS stayed with the reliable Realtek 662 which ran fine under 2000. I would have gone straight to W7 but this machine tested as not XP mode capable, so on it I've temporarily downgraded to XPP until I can build a second Sempron 100 series PVR, then the six-core to replace this aging ASUS. For faster booting on the PVR, XP has been shrunk with nLite, you can also shrink 2000. EDIT: well, at 170 plus shipping and Ontario taxes, its' still 200 CDN for the 8 core.
  4. Can you settle for 95 Watts? one of the six-cores do. I feel the same way about Intel. Your best bet would be to look for any mobos with N68 in the model number with the NVIDIA® GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a chipset combo. They are older than my nVidia 7300 video card and as I was told in another thread, drivers can be found at filehippo because nVidia's search engine no longer responds if you logon with 2000. Biostar has this: http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=506 Though recently Newegg has sold out twice and discontinued. Then there is a series from ASRock, which I've settled on , one with a single slot that I use with a Sempron 145 for running my two MDP-130s. Then this dual PCI slot, that hopefully, I can get one of the six-core AMDs [and run XP/W7] as my next workstation but as stated in another post I gave up on 2000 myself because of lack of support from Adobe,Java etc. plus although i admire the work of BWC,WB and tomasz86, the unofficial updates seem to bugger up the MyHD software, hence this week I moved on to XP for the cards, and W7 for the workstation. http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.us.asp?Model=N68C-GS%20FX&cat=Specifications Now I hope pasting this doesn't cause a run on ASRock because I haven't gotten mine yet, or I'll have to search all over again. I've had a crappy year in the sense of income. I'm just a hardware guy, not a software guy, for that, see tomasz86 or one of the other two I mentioned. Without BWC's drivers, you'd have to settle for "IDE mode" from bios, but it didn't bother me to do so, as long as things worked. You may even be lucky and have 2000 drivers on the above's install CDs, if not, go to filehippo.
  5. Yep. shoulda known.....been geezing out a lot lately......i blame the lipitor. my bad. Now looking for some used 'QUE' books on XP and W7.
  6. Its probably a good thing I held on to my pre-186.xx drivers, now their search tool doesn't even recognizes 2000. Always meant to download 175.16 but never got around to using it. I've always used 169.21 as its been most stable on both the expired eMachine with XP Home and a 7300 as well as the 2k machines with the 8600GT. Now that I've given up and moving to XP/W7 anybody got a safe place to store these drivers for possible posterity or maybe you already know of a cyber-vault?
  7. Seriously though, I'm going to have to build a new workstation soon because though I have bandwidth now, this single core P4 can no longer handle some of the stuff on YouTube anymore.
  8. www.majorgeeks.com still has the rollup. & 5.1 http://majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_2000_Service_Pack_4_Update_Rollup_d4658.html http://majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_2000_Unofficial_SP_d4817.html I'm going to give tomasz86's UUrollup one more go.......then I'm going pirate with some XP and W7 iso s I've d/l'ed. I wonder how the win98 crowd is surviving.
  9. @tomasz, I can't reply to you over at mozillazine anymore, moderator 'james' is being a real dick,he even, like a coward, deleted his final post after splitting and locking the thread "End of support for Windows 2000" because I reported him to admin. The split part of the thread just ends at Frank Lion now. Jason Kersey is just as bad. Through a proxy though I saw your statement on the time zone and UR2.
  10. You don't format W2kP, you format the drives. Now I've never formatted from within an OS, I use a utility disk from Spotmau to format NTFS from a BIOS/CMOS screen. I.E. the disk runs its' own GUI on a DOS/VGA screen, which you can use the arrow keys to make your selection or in the case of Spotmau it runs a simple mouse driver to make the job easier, you'll still have to tweek with the EnableBigLBA utility afterwards. A good source of utilities are : www.majorgeeks.com and www.filehippo.com ............................
  11. Go to nVidia's website, they have an online tool that will fit a recommenced driver to your FX 5700 and 2000, the latest isn't always the best. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
  12. Hell, my 2008 build struggles now with some YT vids. nVidia 8600 GTS, P4 #550 @3400 MHz and many of the new 720p .mkv file format vids, prompting conversion with SUPER <c> to .avi format at a rate of ~300MB per hour.
  13. I don't know about you but the paranoia is starting in me. With Flash and now Java, I suspect a conspiracy from Redmond is afoot!
  14. BIG FAT EDIT: Forget what I said before................ For my next 2000 workstation I plan on these. [after four days of research.] http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138293&Tpk=N68S http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=498 I just found out by going to VideoLAN.org 's site that I only need to add that "libdvdcss" thing in Linux, the Windows version of VLC already has it, so that takes care of playing dvds on a workstation. I already tried it on this old 2008 era P4 single core and it looked fine, except for a little jerkiness, at the beginning of STAR TREK (2009) I was surprised, I had always played DVDs through the MDP-130, now I don't have to worry. As stated in the reviews, the chipset is a little older but that works out fine for us, nVidia has an on-line app that fits you with the best drivers for your application. Better than Biostar's does, though go to the driver's tab in the page link above and you'll see a 2000 compatible driver for the USB 2.0 that may or may not be newer than the one on the driver CD. As for Tomasz's Rollup I have full confidence in it, as I did have it working for the latest version [2.0.1] of VLC, then I buggered my installation of MyHD somehow, and after not working for fourty days, we're inundated with ships now coming through the St.Lawrence Seaway, so I haven't had time to repeat. So as for this mobo, I plan on ordering 3 or 4 with the 45 Watt Sempron 130's for PVR use, and one with a dual or maybe even quad [and re-read what Syclone0044 did to get his quad running] all for the price of one of those expensive industrial boards. Then one without a cpu as a backup. I mean one place wanted 375, the other 450 $.
  15. bphlpt ...... Yep, I upgraded to the latest 7-zip, ver 9.20 Continuing this over at the Ryam VM forum... EOL 2000 subforum. EDIT: Yep, I had VLC 2.0.1 running, however something happened to one app I find critical and I'm going to start over again. over to the RyanVM forum.....
  16. WOW! you guys are geniuses !!!!!!!! I have the latest VLC portable now, Thanks tomasz!!!!! Though like I said over at the other board, I'm having trouble extracting that runtime archive, all the files[dlls] come out as 0kb. I don't understand that 7z format, could you re-do the archive as .rar or a normal .zip, please.
  17. I gave up trying to understand BWC's blog even with google translate on, it is still incomprehensible, get SUPER © it still even supports Win98SE! http://www.erightsoft.com/faqt.html What we need is to find a new member fluent in both Japanese and English as a translator!
  18. OK, I've done the mechanical bit but since all four SATA connectors on this ASUS were full, after what was the backup boot drive [initiated when the IDE one failed] was being used as the main 'C' drive. "BootBackup" is now just sitting in the drive cage unconnected, with the SSD using it's data and power connectors. I see a new version of the UURollup today. What does it do? Does it give me SATA drivers, for I know it is a waste to have a SSD run in IDE mode but I only guess that is what the mobo did on its' own as I had no trouble in 2008 [yeah, time to think about a new build] installing W2k from a SATA DVD drive. Also I envy Syclones' achievement of getting all four cores of his new build running. Which is what I want to do,once I get the cash, is build a gamer-level AMD/nVidia workstation because for now when I download a 720p mkv file I have to convert it to avi to run on this machine with SUPER http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html It would be so much nicer just to run it directly but this machine chokes, with cpu at 100%, yet when I match video bitrate to the original and just cut the multi-channel audio to mp3 stereo, the cpu runs at 64% or less with a great picture. I can't read BWC's blog, even with google translate. That would also solve the MDP-130's glitch of not being able to play DVDs in a multi- core since the Windows version of VLC can [whereas in linux I have to add the CSS libraries manually]. Lastly, I'm not going to slipstream, I'm going to install one at a time, manually, as if I've never heard of HFSLip or nLite. Right now, got other chores to do, will report back later. I'm not even going to worry about the swap file because I notice Spybots' TeaTimer app does the same thing every 2nd boot, cpu at 100%, while it checks everything in the system.
  19. Hasn't anyone told Mozilla this? Or don't they want to know? [that's the closest to confused as I can find here] Big Fat Edit: it is now 20:37 I'm at the so-called Mozilla forum [registered] and I'm getting the run-around, I see no place to put a new post. You'd thunk that the smart people over there would know about BWC and take him under their wing as a supporting contributor. Another Big Fat Edit: It is now Saturday. Right now I can't even afford to run out and get a cheap refurb, so I'm going to take the 30gig Kingston SSD I got for my birthday and was saving for the PVR, use XXCLONE , set this BIOS to boot from it and try tomasz' s UURollup. I don't know when,as I have many other chores to do but will report back, success or failure, when I've done so. Thanks for all the advice.
  20. Unlike Mozilla, palemoon.org are going to maintain two forks, it says so on their Main page http://www.palemoon.org/ the download page, current version 3.6.30 or four more than the mozilla version on my other usb stick, the blog and in their forum. BWC,WB and tomasz are the real browncoats, working tirelessly to keep the last non-activation OS from Redmond viable. I tip my hat to you all and wish I had some spare cash to throw your way, though if I understand correctly it is that 2010 compiler(sp?) that's the culprit. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
  21. Well, ppgrainbow, I checked my C:\WINNT folder, they're all there, including the Rollup 1 and their uninstall folders coloured in blue on my system. Recently though my dedicated PVR [an old eMachine with XP Home] went belly up due to motherboard issues and I'm a bit reluctant to experiment on my one working machine. Yet tomas states his pack is stable, I've recently joined the RyanVM board and for now am just reading up, learning and sometime before June, the deadline for deciding to go from FF 11 to Pale Moon. Or I may make the jump and go ahead and try his UURollup, yet eagerly awaiting his SP6. Meanwhile, hunting for another refurb to make into a RVR[the cards and drives still work, just the mobo was no good]. Frell, I hate being poor, when times were good I had five machines going, including a PIII dedicated to just experimenting on before trying anything new on the others.and yes, one of those was a dedicated porn hunter isolated from the rest, to protect the others from anything cyber-nasty.
  22. OK, I've got the page, reading, perhaps I'll give it a try. With this you got the latest VLC player 2.0.x versions to run? I joined that forum because I really need some guidance on keeping W2kP alive, I do have rollup 1, the older unofficial service pack 5 from the majorgeeks site and the few that came down the pike until July 2010 and because I wanted those fonts that were included, the powerpoint updates of the last couple of years.
  23. That's what I said. How? and no, I still don't understand how to use BWC's or WB's kernel (yet) despite this chart? http://wiki.videolan.org/VSG:Usage:Version
  24. found my own answer........ the bastards did stop support at 2.0.0 and here I was counting on open source to keep 2000 alive! http://wiki.videolan.org/VSG:Usage:Version Its good that I know how to use SUPER so I can keep converting the mkv files I like into 720p .avi files that can play on my system. http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html BIG FAT EDIT: It is working now.
