  1. Doing even small changes can be painful in a large project, it's all about how it was programmed. But Microsoft is recycling code since... DOS? I Wonder how messy the code is, actually.
  2. Microsoft is bloating Windows in every new relase. Windows 8 Metro brings no advantages for people that does not have an touchscreen equiped computer. Heck, it is just annoying with a mouse. By the other side, GNOME3 still is very usefull with a mouse. Windows 8 uses a lot of Hard Disk space with stuff that I will never use. I miss the option in Windows 95/98 when you could select what to install. Windows 8 "Aero" just can't be disabled through options, that means more megabytes of memory and processing that could be used in something else. Windows 8 brings a new "Fast boot" technology that works nicely if and only if you do not have another OS installed. otherwise every change you do in any shared partition through another OS will make Windows get confused and corrupt the added files. Heck, Windows 8 does not support less-than-32bits colors at all, they had to include an buggy wrapper for legacy applications.
  3. Well, I got Linux installed in this computer, and i'm sharing a 400gb NTFS partition with Linux and Windows. I run into a problem while mounting it on Linux when Windows 8 Fast Startup is enabled, so I just disable it for a while. Now, i've planned to "fix" it. I wrote a program to mount/umount the partition on Windows, and it should be run at Shutdown (umount) and Startup (mount), it is working very well, now I can write files into the partition with Linux wihout Windows bugging me when trying to access it. So I just went to configure the scripts at group policy, but i found out that my Windows 8 copy does not include it (OEM ). So... is there a way to add'em into Windows startup/shutdown wihout the Group policy editor? Or maybe another solution to the problem?
  4. I got some problems while integrating netfx and the directx update: I used 7zsd to create the silent executable, that sould launch the setup in silence mode. But all I got is that. Note that the file is extracted correctly, as you can see in the command prompt
  5. both links directs me to the same topic Perhaps I can integrate dotnetfx as a application, just by launching as a silence install.
  6. Yo! Well, i use Brazilian Portuguese Windows XP and I want to integrate all XP updates. I Can't find any packages with all updates, so I decided to create my own. First, I used WSUS Offline updator to download all Brazilian XP updates, including IE8, WMP11, and DOTNETFX. Then I will need to slipstream it into my XP-SP3, and I plan to use nLite for that. My question is: Do I need to handle some updates separately? I've read somewhere that I need to patch and repack IE8 and WMP11, is that true? How can I do it? If someone here already got a packages with all Brazilian Portuguese updates, I would be thankful
